  • The purpose of this study is to examine the hand of spring/fall fabrics for 'Saenghwal Hanbok' on subjective hand, objective hand and the preference. In this study, 28 varieties of spring/fall fabrics such as cotton fabrics, synthetic fabrics, blended fabrics and a silk fabric for 'Saenghwal Hanbok' are used. To evaluate the subjective hand of fabrics, the holistic touch and preferences, 33 seven ranks' segmentic differential scale questions are developed with adjective pairs and are gathered by surveying experts on clothes. The mechanical properties, HV and THV of them are measured and calculated by KES-FB system. Through subjective hand, items could be classified into six hand expressions: 'bulky/extensibility', 'stiffness', 'feeling of weight', 'surface property', 'drapability' and 'moisture property'. Through mechanical properties, the results indicated that the character of cotton fabrics are slight flexible, tough, rough, uneven, a bit heavy, thick and low resilience on tensile and compression, and then those of synthetic fabrics, blended fabrics and a silk fabric are thin and light, smooth, flat and bulkless. In correlation on subjective evaluations and the preference for 'Saenghwal Hanbok', cotton fabrics mainly depend on 'surface property' and 'moisture property' and then synthetic fabrics, blended fabrics and a silk depend on 'bulky/extensibility' and 'surface property' In correlation on objective hand and the preference for 'Saenghwal Hanbok'. people aren't satisfied with low resilience. high stiffness and low drape.

  • Each cotton fiber is a unicellular hair collected from the seed of cotton plant. The fiber contains many convolutions along its length. Mercer was the first to suggest caustic soda treatment of cotton in commercial application. Mercerization has been commercially used since Lowe's suggestion to endow cotton with increased strength and affinity for dyes with additional properties such as fabric touch or luster. In this study, cotton fabric specimens were mercerized to investigate the changes in physical and mechanical properties pertaining to the hand or touch of fabrics. Physical properties were measured using the KES(Kawabata Evaluation System).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and to compare the performances of silicone laminated materials sold for swimming cap in market, to get the basic data for product development. We selected 4 specimens and tested their air permeability, waterproofness and breathability. We also tested the physical and mechanical properties of the specimens using KES system. Silicone-laminated material was not bursted on high hydraulic pressure since silicone membrane gave waterproofness while PU/Polyester substrate gave elasticity. It didn't have air permeability and breathability at all. Any toxic materials such as Formaldehyde, Deldrin, PCP, Amin, TDBPP were not detected in silicone-laminated material and other materials. Silicone-laminated material had higher stretchability with the low force but it had lower elastic recovery and shape stability comparing to PU laminated material. It had lower flexibility than PU laminated material. It had lower unrecoverable amount in shearing direction. Friction coefficient was higher in silicone-laminated material than PU laminated material due to its surface stickiness. It was compressed easily and its compression resiliency was higher with compared to PU laminated material.

  • The object of this study is to understand creativity development by examining the emergent process of accomplishments from case studies on individuals who had made creative accomplishments in science. Especially this study focuses from childhood to adulthood of the research participants before they accomplished their goal. For case studies, 10 people who made creative accomplishments in the science and technology domain were selected for interviewing as the research participants. Analyzing data were made using by KES. Then it is summarized and described the representative traits of each period of the research participants.

  • In this study, for textile use, the octadecane of phase change materials(PCM) was encapsulated in several micro-diameter shell which prevents leakage of the material during its liquid phase. Microencapsulated PCM(PM) was prepared with the different weight ratio of core material to wall material and by interfacial polymerization methods using polyurea as shell material. Phase stability for O/W emulsion of PCM and PVA aq. (PE) was evaluated by Turbiscan Lab. The capsule formation win identified using FT-IR. Physical properties of microcapsules including diameter, particle distribution, morphology were investigated. Thermal transport properties of suede treated with PM(SPM) were determined by KES-F7 system.

  • In this study, the mechanical properties related to the fabric appearance of well being functional bamboo knitted fabric before and after loess dyeing were evaluated. The mechanical properties of fabrics were measured by KES-F system, that is, shape retention, draping, wrinkle recovery, compression property, and surface properties, and total hand value of three types of knitted fabric, 100% bamboo, 100% cotton, and bamboo / cotton blend (60 / 40) were evaluated before and after loess dyeing. As a result, it was found that appearance density, shape retention, and drape coefficient of cotton knitted fabric were greater than those of bamboo knitted fabric. After loess dyeing, shape retention and drape coefficient, wrinkle recovery of bamboo knitted fabric improved and WC/C and MMD/SMD decreased. According to THV, the hand of bamboo/cotton blend knit is the best among three samples by compensation the weak properties of the two fiber. Therefore, loess dyeing seemed to be a good method for improving shape retention and hand value of 100% bamboo and bamboo blended fabric.

  • We investigated the effects of washing on the mechanical properties and hand values of spandex/cotton and cotton single jersey fabrics. These knitted fabrics were subjected to 30 laundering cycles with a drum-type washer and were followed by drying at $65^{\circ}C$ with a tumble dryer. The mechanical properties of the cotton knitted fabrics changed greatly during the first washing and then suffered no further change in their properties as the number of washing cycle increased. However, the properties of the spandex/cotton knitted fabrics changed continuously throughout all the washing cycles. The cotton/spandex knitted fabrics showed higher values in tensile and bending properties than did the cotton knitted fabrics, though both kinds of fabrics showed less difference in shearing, surface and compression properties. The spandex/cotton knitted fabrics which had proper density had a higher THV for winter underwear after 30 repeated washings than did the cotton knitted fabrics, and the THVs of both fabrics decreased with the increase in the number of washing cycles.
