  • Co-channel interference between macro-femtocell networks is an unresolved problem, due to the frequency reuse phenomenon. To mitigate such interference, a secondary femtocell must acquire channel-state knowledge about a co-channel macrocell user and accordingly condition the maximum transmit power of femtocell user. This paper proposes a pilot-based spectrum sensing (PSS) algorithm for overlaid femtocell networks to sense the presence of a macrocell user over a channel of interest. The PSS algorithm senses the pilot tones in the received signal through the power level and the correlation metric comparisons between the received signal and the local reference pilots. On ensuring the existence of a co-channel macrocell user, the maximum transmit power of the corresponding femtocell user is optimized so as to avoid interference. Time and frequency offsets are carefully handled in our proposal. Simulation results show that the PSS algorithm outperforms existing sensing techniques, even at poor received signal quality. It requires less sensing time and provides better detection probability over existing techniques.

  • This paper presents "The 3-User NOR switching channel based on interference decoding with receiver cooperation" in succession to "Jeju Jong Nang channel code I, II". The Jeju Jong Nang code is considered as one of the earliest human binary coded communication (HBCC) in the world with a definite "1" or "0" binary symbolic analysis of switching circuits. In this paper, we introduce a practical example of interference decoding with receiver cooperation based on the three user Jong Nang NOR switching channel. The proposed system models are the three user Jong Nang (TUJN) NOR logic switching on-off, three-user injective deterministic NOR switching channel and Gaussian interference channel (GIC) with receiver cooperation. Therefore, this model is well matched to Shannon binary symmetric and erasure channel capacity. We show the applications of three-user Gaussian interference decoding to obtain deterministic channels which means each receiver cooperation helps to adjacent others in order to increase degree of freedom. Thus, the optimal sum rate of interference mitigation through adjacent receiver cooperation achieves 7 bits.

  • In this paper, we consider a channel ordering problem that seeks to minimize the total interference in mobile radio networks. If a base station receives connection request from a mobile user, one of the empty channels that are fixed to the base station is assigned to the mobile user. Among several channels available, we can choose one that seems to make least interference with other channels assigned to adjacent base stations. However, a pair of channels that are not separated enough do not generate interference if both of them are not simultaneously used by mobile users. That is, interference between channels may vary depending on the channel assignment sequence for each base station and on the distribution of mobile users. To find a channel assignment sequence that seems to generate minimum interference, we develop an optimization model considering various scenarios of mobile user distribution. Simulation results show that channel assignment sequence determined by the scenario based optimization model significantly reduces the interference provided that scenarios and interference costs are properly generated.

  • In this paper, we develop an interference neutralization (IN) method based on a set of multi-antenna relays for K-user interference channel. The feasibility condition for IN is fully characterized. We further provide a relaxed IN method for the cases in which there are not enough relays to satisfy the feasibility condition.

  • In this paper, we characterise the joint interference alignment and power allocation strategies for a K-user multicell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian interference channel. We consider a MIMO interference channel with a blind interference alignment through staggered antenna switching on the receiver. We explore the power allocation and the feasibility condition for cooperative cell-edge (CE) mobile users (MUs) by assuming that the channel state information is unknown. The new insight behind the transmission strategy of the proposed scheme is premeditated (randomly generated transmission strategy) and partial cooperative CE MUs, where the transmitter is equipped with a conventional antenna, the receiver is equipped with a reconfigurable multimode antenna (staggered antenna switching pattern), and the receiver switches between preset T modes. Our proposed scheme assists and aligns the desired and interference signals to cancel the common interference signals, since the received signal must have a corresponding independent signal subspace. The sum capacity for a K-user multicell MIMO Gaussian interference channel with reconfigurable multimode antennas is completely characterised.

  • Since designing a feedback topology is a practical way to implement interference alignment at reduced cost of channel state information (CSI) feedback, six feedback topologies have been presented in prior works for a K-user multiple-input multiple-output interference channel. To fully reveal the potential benefits of the feedback topology in terms of the saving of CSI overhead, we propose a new feedback topology in this paper. By efficiently performing dimensionality-decreasing at the transmitter side and aligning interference signals at a subset of receivers, we show that the proposed feedback topology obtains substantial reduction of feedback cost over the existing six feedback designs under the same antenna configuration.

  • In this paper, when interference caused by the primary user exists, the capacity performance of the mean value-based power allocation scheme is analyzed and evaluated under the outdated channel environment in spectrum sharing systems. When interference due to the primary transmitter affects the secondary receiver, we derive the upper bound of the ergodic capacity of the mean value-based power allocation scheme in a closed form. Furthermore, based on that, we investigate how interference due to the primary transmitter degrades the ergodic capacity of the secondary user. In simulation results, we show the performance degradation of the secondary user due to interference caused by the primary user. In addition, we show that the region where the mean value-based power allocation scheme outperforms the outdated channel information-based power allocation scheme is reduced as interference by the primary user increases.

  • Instantaneous relay (relay-without-delay) using interference alignment is a promising approach to neutralizing interference and improving system capacity. In Wang Chenwei's work, a 2-user scenario required both source and relay to access the global channel state information (CSI). This paper shows a new method of interference alignment improves the degrees of freedom (DoF) prominently for the 3-user MIMO interference channel with instantaneous relay. This new method is focused on the relay node that completes the alignment interference neutralization so the global CSI is obtained only once and the pressure on the base station can be mitigated. In addition, the 3-user MIMO interference channels with instantaneous relay can achieve 2M DoF when source and destination have M antennas, respectively. This method shows 33% improvement over the conventional method using interference alignment which obtains 3M/2 DoF.

  • Precoder has been shown to be able to provide source diversity and design flexibility. In this paper we employ precoding techniques for block transmission based on a multirate filterbank structure. To accommodate multiuser communication with variable data rates, different precoders with corresponding coefficients and up/down sampling rates are used. However, due to unknown multipath distortion, different interferences may exist in the received data, such as multiuser interference, intersymbol interference and interblock interference. To estimate channel parameters for a desired user, we employ all structured signature waveforms associated with different symbols of that user and apply subspace techniques. Therefore better performance of channel estimator can be achieved than the conventional subspace method based only on the signature of the current symbol. The delay for that user can also be jointly estimated. Channel identifiability conditions and asymptotic channel estimation error are investigated in detail. Numerical examples are provided to justify the proposed method. gest either multicode (MC) or multiple processing gain (MPG) mechanism [2], while requiring data rates to be integral multiples of some basic low-rate. In order to support variable rate transmission however, a comprehensive scheme needs to be investigated.

  • Conventional interference alignment (IA) for a MIMO interference channel (IFC) requires global and perfect channel state information at transmitter (CSIT) to achieve the optimal degrees of freedom (DoF), which prohibits practical implementation. In order to alleviate the global CSIT requirement caused by the coupled relation among all of IA equations, we propose an IA scheme with a single feedback link of each receiver in a limited feedback environment for a three-user MIMO IFC. The main feature of the proposed scheme is that one of users takes out a fraction of its maximum number of data streams to decouple IA equations for three-user MIMO IFC, which results in a single link feedback structure at each receiver. While for the conventional IA each receiver has to feed back to all transmitters for transmitting the maximum number of data streams. With the assumption of a random codebook, we analyze the upper bound of the average throughput loss caused by quantized channel knowledge as a function of feedback bits. Analytic results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional IA scheme in term of the feedback overhead and the sum rate as well.
