  • The effect of the isocyanate index (NCO index) on the particle size and particle size distribution of a waterborne polyurethane dispersion (WPUD) with polycarbonate-diol was determined. The WPUDs were prepared using a conventional acetone process with polycarbonate-polyol (Mn = 2028), 4,4'-methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) (H12MDI), 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (DMPA), and dibutyltin dilaurate catalyst. At NCO index values below 1.5, the number average particle diameter of the WPUDs significantly increased with the NCO index, whereas the particle diameter slightly varied at higher NCO indexes. The dependency of the WPUD viscosity on the NCO index exhibited similar behavior to that of the particle size. The relative values of the full width at half maximum of the WPUD particle distribution curves at various NCO indexes were not influenced by the NCO index.

  • The objective of the present study was to investigate relationships between Caslick's index and fertility for different age groups of Cheju mares. Ninety-one Cheju mares were used for this study. Caslick's index was measured the effective length and angle of declination of the vulva in the mare. They were mated naturally by stallions from February to October during the years $2002{\sim}2005$. The classification used in the present study was : Group I - good conception every years, Group II - conception every other year and Group III - Barren. Younger aged group ($3{\sim}7$ years) had a lower Caslick's index (<50) compared with $8{\sim}14$ aged group and older aged group (> 15 years). In this study, Caslick's index was increasing by increasing age of Cheju horse like Thoroughbred. However, fertility was decreasing by increasing Caslick's index. Hence, there was significant association between the different Caslick's index and fertility. Further research is needed to determine relationship between different Caslick's index and endometritis.

  • In 2016, Benthic Macroinvertebrates Streambed Index (BMSI) was proposed as an index to evaluate streams as benthic macroinvertebrate depending on the substrate type of streambed. However, orignal BMSI were selected without consideration of water quality. Analyzes without water quality do not constitute biological indices based solely on the substrate type of streambed. Therefore, in this study, the indicator value was improvement in consideration of water quality, and the distribution characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrates according to the substrate type of streambed were analyzed under relatively equal water quality conditions. We surveyed 20,155 sampling units in Korea from 2008 to 2018, and we re-estimated each lithophility of 191 taxa. As a result of estimating the streambed of each newly lithophilic value classification group considering the water quality, it was different from the original lithophilic value. Representative integer lithophilic values were newly calculated from 126 taxa among the 191 index taxa used in the analysis. The correlation between new constructed BMSI and community structure was compared and analyzed. It showed extreamely significance (p<0.001) in the dominance index, diversity index, abundance index, and evenness index of the community structure. Diversity index, abundance index, and evenness index showed positive correlation, and dominance index showed negative correlation. The correlation coefficient (r) was the highest in the richness index of about 0.664.

  • In a digital radiation system using a Flat Panel Detector, we attempted to the quality control of digital radiography system using the Exposure Index and Deviation Index. Calibration was performed with the radiation quality suggested by the International Electrotechnical Commission, and through an experiment using a phantom, appropriate inspection radiation conditions applicable to medical institutions were selected. The study was conducted using the selected radiation conditions. Through those chest posterior anterior image, information such as examination conditions and exposure index was obtained. The deviation index was derived by analyzing the exposure index based on the target exposure index calculated by the phantom study. As for the analyzed exposure index, 97.1% was distributed within the range of ± 2.0 based on the deviation index. Quality control of medical images should be performed through management of inspection conditions through exposure index and deviation index and management of medical images.

  • BOH magnetometer was installed at Mt. Bohyun in 2007 and has provided continuous dataset for 3-axis geomagnetic field over the South Korea. We have calculated real-time K-index based on BOH magnetic field data using well-known FMI method. Local K-index is calculated eight times a day, per every three hours. To calculate K-index, it is critical to get the Quiet Day Curve (QDC). For QDC calculation, we take the previous one month's average of H-component. In this paper, we compared four geomagnetic stations' magnetic field data over South Korea and Japan and K-indices of each stations; Bohyun, Gangneung, Jeju, and Kakioka for two years data, 2011-2012. To investigate the difference depending on the latitude, longitude and local time in more detail, we compare K-index on International Quiet Days (IQDs) and International Disturbed Days (IDDs). As a result, we report the correlation between local K-indices are higher than those between Kp and local K-indices, and the correlation is much better after sunset than after sunrise. As the geomagnetic activity becomes stronger, the correlation between the local K-indices and global Kp-index become higher.

  • This research was conducted on the conservation area of Baekdudaegan, Kangwondo under the purpose of evaluating bio-diversity according to the changes of spatial scale, using GIS data and spatial filtering method. The diversity index was calculated based on the information of species of The $5^{th}$ forest type map using Shannon-weaver index (H'), evenness index ($E_i$) and richness index ($R_i$). The diversity index was analyzed and compared according to the changes of 12 spatial scales from Kernel size $3{\times}3$ to $73{\times}73$ and basin unit. As for H' and $R_i$, spatial scale increased as diversity index decreased, while $E_i$ decreases gradually. H' and $R_i$ was highest; each 1.1 and 0.6, when the Kernel size was $73{\times}73$, while $E_i$ was 0.2, the lowest. When you look at according to the basin unit, for large basin unit, 'YeongDong' region shows higher diversity index than 'YeongSeo' region. For middle basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' region, and for small basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' and 'Gangneung Ohbongdaem' region shows high diversity index. When you look at the relationship between diversity index and Geographic factors, H' shows positive relation to curvature and sunshine factor while shows negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. Also $E_i$ was similar to the relationship between H' and Geographic factor. Meanwhile, $R_i$ shows positive relationship to curvature and sunshine factor, while negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. macro unit diversity index evaluation was possible through the GIS data and spatial filtering, and it can be a good source for local biosphere conservation policy making.

  • Site index is an essential tool to estimate forest productivity. Generally, a site index equation is developed and used from the relationship between stand age and dominant tree heights. However, there is a limit to the use of the site index equation in the application of variable ages, environmental influence, and estimation of site index for the unstocked forest. Therefore, it has been attempted to develop a new site index equation based on various environmental factors including site, climate, and topographical variables. This study was conducted to develop a site index equation based on the relationship between site index and environmental factors for the species of Pinus koraiensis in Yangpyung-Gun, Gyunggi Province. The influence of climatic factors (temperature and solar irradiation ratio), topographical factors (elevation, slope, ratio of slope to valley and aspect) and soil profiles (soil depth by layer and soil consistency) on site index were evaluated by multiple regression analysis. Five environmental factors were selected in the final site index equation for Pinus koraiensis. The site index equation developed in this study was also verified by three evaluation statistics: model's estimation bias, model's precision, and mean square error of measurement. Based on the site index equation, the number of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis were estimated by applying GIS technique to digitized forest maps. In addition, the distribution of productive areas was compared with the areas of current distribution of Pinus koraiensis. It is expected that the results obtained in this study could provide valuable information about the amount and distribution of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis reforestation.

  • Suppose G is a simple graph. The ${\ell}$-eigenvalues ${\delta}_1$, ${\delta}_2$,..., ${\delta}_n$ of G are the eigenvalues of its normalized Laplacian ${\ell}$. The normalized Laplacian Estrada index of the graph G is dened as ${\ell}EE$ = ${\ell}EE$(G) = ${\sum}^n_{i=1}e^{{\delta}_i}$. In this paper the basic properties of ${\ell}EE$ are investigated. Moreover, some lower and upper bounds for the normalized Laplacian Estrada index in terms of the number of vertices, edges and the Randic index are obtained. In addition, some relations between ${\ell}EE$ and graph energy $E_{\ell}$(G) are presented.

  • This paper describes a rollover index (RI)-based rollover mitigation control (RMC) system. A rollover index which indicates an impending rollover has been developed by a roll dynamics phase plane analysis. The rollover index is calculated using the roll angle, the roll rate, the lateral acceleration and time to wheel lift (TTWL). A differential braking control law based on a 2-D bicycle model has been designed using the direct yaw control (DYC) method. An RMC threshold has been determined from the rollover index. The performance of the RMC scheme and the effectiveness of the proposed rollover index are illustrated using a vehicle simulator.

  • Traffic Accident Merging Index (TAMI) is developed for TMACS (Traffic Safety Information Management Complex System). TAMI is calculated by combining 'Severity Index' and 'Frequency'. The existing indexes are Traffic deaths per 100,000 population, Traffic deaths per 100,000 inhabitants/per billion veh-km, etc. However, there is no consistency in using them among local governments, so it can create confusion. Moreover, the index level is too complicated to understand. Therefore, this study suggests new traffic safety index, TAMI. It will work to improve the weaknesses and present accurate status of traffic safety in local governments.
