  • The impact of supervisory communication apprehension (SCA) on subordinates' job performance was investigated in this study. We also examined the impact of task-related uncertainty in mediating the relationship between SCA and subordinate work performance, as well as the role of information-seeking behavior in moderating the relationship between task-related uncertainty and subordinate job performance. A sample of subordinates and their supervisors from public and private sector enterprises in Pakistan were used in the study. The concept of communication apprehension is not limited to a single organization or industry, and the conditions suggest that apprehensive supervisors are likely to exist in different organizations and industries in Pakistan, including banks, telecommunications, and development sector organizations. Company directors and leaders of human resources departments were contacted to reach out to possible respondents. SmartPLS software was used to evaluate the data using a structural equation modeling technique which is commonly used in explanatory studies (Atta et al., 2021). We found evidence to support ideas predicting the association between SCA and subordinate job performance, as well as the mediating role of task-related ambiguity in the relationship. Furthermore, the findings show that information-seeking activity has a moderating effect on the link between task-related ambiguity and subordinate job performance. This is one of the first studies to look at major mediating and moderating mechanisms in the link between SCA and subordinate job performance.

  • In this study, a multi-objective robust job-shop scheduling (JSS) model was developed. The model considered multi-jobs and multi-machines. The model also considered uncertain processing times for all tasks. Each job was assigned a specific due date and a tardiness penalty to be paid if the job was not delivered on time. If any job was completed early, holding expenses would be assigned. In addition, the model added idling penalties to accommodate the idling of machines while waiting for jobs. The problem assigned was to determine the optimal start times for each task that would minimize the expected penalties. A numerical problem was solved to minimize both the makespan and the total penalties, and a comparison was made between the results. Analysis of the results produced a prescription for optimizing penalties that is important to be accounted for in conjunction with uncertainties in the job-shop scheduling problem (JSSP).

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between uncertainty and depression in hospitalized children's mothers. Methods: The subjects were 175 mothers of children who were hospitalized in pediatric unit. A self report questionnaires were used to measure the variables. Variables were uncertainty and depression. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 20.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: Reliability of instruments were found cronbach's alpha=.85~.86. Uncertainty correlated positively with depression(r=.422, p<.010). There were significant differences in depression according to birth order(F=6.58, p=.002), mothers' age(F=6.57, p=.002), education level(F=3.97, p=.021) and mothers' job(t=19.18, p<.001), monthly income(F=4.234, p=.006) and family type(t=7.49, p=.007). In multiple regression, uncertainty, mothers' job and family type were significant predictors of depression in hospitalized children's mothers explaining 30.9%. Conclusions: Uncertainty and depression were significant variables in hospitalized children's mothers. The strategy of nursing intervention which decrease depression in mothers must be developed by decreasing level of uncertainty in mothers of hospitalized children.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand how disease activity and uncertainty influence anxiety and depression in patients with ankylosing spondylitis Methods: Participants were 125 patients with ankylosing spondylitis who had attended the rheumatology division of a university hospital. A structured questionnaire was used to assess disease activity, uncertainty, anxiety, and depression. The data gathered were analyzed using t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficients, and a multiple regression. Results: Differences were observed in anxiety based on job status, and in depression based on age, marriage, and job status. Uncertainty and disease activity predicted patients' anxiety and explained 40% of the variance in this measure, and the relative influence of uncertainty (${\beta}=.38$, p<.001) was larger than that of disease activity (${\beta}=.30$, p<.001). Furthermore, uncertainty and disease activity predicted depression and explained 36% of the variance therein, and the relative influence of uncertainty (${\beta}=.27$, p=.002) and disease activity (${\beta}=.27$, p=.003) was similar. Conclusion: This study confirmed that disease activity and uncertainty influenced anxiety and depression in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Therefore, efforts to decrease anxiety and depression in patients with this condition must take into consideration disease activity when implementing nursing interventions and should include strategies to lower uncertainty.

  • The core competencies such as technology have been rapidly developing with advent of the fourth industrial revolution. One of the representative technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution is artificial intelligence(AI). In particular, AI makes human life richer and more comfortable and has many positive aspects. The negative aspect is that AI is likely to replace the organizational members' job and has the ability to replace skills associated with it. These threats may increase the level of perception that organizational members may loss their job. Moreover, it may lead to a sense of anxiety. In addition, organizational members who perceive job uncertainty highly, the job substitution anxiety may be become highly. According to this, their job satisfaction can be lower. Overall, this research emphasized the negative aspects of AI in contrast to the positive aspects of the fourth industrial era. It is also emphasized that the organization should need to recognize such problems and seek solutions to reduce workers' anxiety. Finally, practical implications and research directions of future study were presented through the research results.
