Decrease in Stress Response and Related Factors After Transition to Consecutive Day Shift from Day and Night Shift: A Motor Assembly Factory Case (주야2교대제에서 주간연속2교대제로의 전환 후 스트레스반응의 감소와 관련인자: 일개 완성차 제조사의 사례)

  • Objectives: The major objective of this study was to analyze stress response after a change to consecutive day shifts from day and night shifts in a motor assembly factory. Methods: Using a survey conducted by a labor union, we collected data on stress response index(SRI), lifestyle factors, work-family conflict and job stress before and after a shift system change. We analyzed the transition on the SRI among 222 workers. The cut-off point for the SRI was a T-score over 60. Results: The high risk stress response group was 20.3% of the population before the shift system change. After the shift system change it decreased to 11.3%. After the shift system change, social support improved, leisure time became more sufficient, work-family conflict declined, and sleep quality in the night shift week improved. In multivariable linear regression, among workers under 40 years old sleep quality on night shift, leisure time sufficiency, social support and work-family conflict contributed to the improvement of stress response. Among workers over 40, work-family conflict contributed to the improvement of stress response. Conclusions: The change to consecutive day shifts improved stress response and mediated with improved nighttime sleep, decreased work-family conflict, increased leisure time and improved work-family conflict.

Job Satisfaction among Korean Nurses: A Literature Review (간호사의 직무만족에 관한 문헌 분석)

  • Purpose: This study systematically reviewed the research literature on nurse job satisfaction to suggest directions for further research. Methods: A total of 98 articles published in the journals registered in National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) from January 2000 to August 2013 were included for the final analysis. Results: The number of published papers related to nurse job satisfaction has increased annually. The most frequently used instrument to measure nurse job satisfaction was 'The Index of Work Satisfaction'developed by Slavitt et al. (1978). 'Personal Perception/Attitude' was the strongest predictor influencing on nurse job satisfaction (41 times, 38.0%). Organizational commitment, turnover intention, nursing performance, job stress, and organizational performance were commonly used as outcome variables related to nurse job satisfaction. Conclusion: Further research is needed to analyze diverse influential factors on nurse job satisfaction. In addition, it is also needed to develop an intervention program which can improve nurse job satisfaction.

The Impact of the Organizational Culture Type Perceived by Cabin Crews on Job Stress: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Empowerment (캐빈승무원이 지각한 조직문화 유형이 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향: 임파워먼트의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • For the empirical analysis in this study, 335 cabin crews from large airline companies and budget airlines were interviewed using self-reporting questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. First, of the organizational culture types, the relationship-oriented culture, hierarchy-oriented culture, and task-oriented culture were found to have negative impacts on job stress. Second, the innovation-oriented organizational culture, relationship-oriented culture, and hierarchy-oriented culture were found to have positive impacts on empowerment. Third, empowerment was found to have a negative impact on job stress. Fourth, as for the mediating effect of empowerment, the innovation-oriented culture, relationship-oriented culture, hierarchy-oriented culture, and task-oriented culture were verified to be all significantly mediated by empowerment in their relationship with job stress. As a result, it was shown that cabin crews of airline companies found their work more fun, interesting, and valuable in an organizational structure that was more oriented toward flexibility, rather than the hierarchical, task-oriented cultures that are more focused on control and order. It was also found that empowerment was a mediating factor in the relationship between organizational culture and job stress.

A Comparative Study on the Turnover Intention and Moderator Effect of Organizational Health (직무스트레스가 이직의도에 미치는 영향 및 조직건강의 조절효과 :어린이집과 유치원 교사의 비교를 중심으로)

  • This study is on the investigation on the influence of job stress to the turnover intention conducted with 332 teachers working at child care centers and kindergartens in Chungnam, Chungbuk and Daejeon areas. And, during the course of investigation, moderator effect of the organizational health is tested. The main results of this study are as follows; First, according to the investigation on the major causes on the turnover intention, the child care center teachers show their turnover intention in the order as the center head's leadership on the organizational health, the job stress, the health condition and education status, and the kindergarten teachers show their turnover intentions in the order as the job stress, the structure of the organizational health, the teacher's capability and the health condition. Second, according to the investigation on the interaction effect between the job stress and the subfactor of the organizational health, the domain of leadership of the center head for the child care center teachers and the domains of organization structure and teacher's capability for the kindergarten teachers are shown to be statistically significant so that moderator effect is found in the relationship between the job stress and the turnover intention. Based on the results of these studies, several alternatives were suggested in order to reduce the turnover intention.

Factors Influencing Organizational Commitment Experienced the JCI(Joint Commission International) in Hospital Nurses (국제의료기관평가를 경험한 임상간호사의 조직몰입 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors affecting nurses' organizational commitment of the JCI. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed using questionnaire. Data were collected from 198 nurses who worked at one hospital from 5 to 14 May 2013. Tools were used general characteristics, perception(Yang & Choi, 2014), job stress(Park, 2005), organizational commitment(Mowday, Porter, & Steers, 1979). Results: The scores of perception, job stress, and organizational commitment of the JCI were 3.21/5, 4.08/5, and 2.65/5 respectively. Organizational commitment was significantly different according to degree. A positive correlation was observed between perception and organizational commitment. Organizational commitment was negatively correlated with job stress. The explained variances for organizational commitment was 26.3% and factors affecting nurses' organizational commitment were degree, perception, and job stress. Conclusion: These results showed the significant factors for nurses' organizational commitment of JCI. These findings can be utilized to development of strategies for reducing job stress, and enhancing perception of JCI.

The effects of self-efficacy and job stress coping on the resilience in clinical nurses (임상간호사의 자기 효능감 및 직무스트레스 대처가 극복력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to verify the effects of self-efficacy and job stress coping on the resilience. The subjects were 240 hospital nurses in Jeonbuk and 231 questionnaires were used in the analysis after exclusion of nine due to insufficient data. Data were collected from May to June, 2017 and analyzed with the SPSS 23.0 program. Specifically, differences in resilience based on the characteristics of the participants were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA with Duncan's post hoc test, while correlations between variables were analyzed by Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. Additionally, the effects of self-efficacy and job stress coping were evaluated by multiple regression. Self-efficacy and job stress coping were found to be positively correlated with resilience. In addition, self-efficacy and job stress coping were identified as factors influencing the resilience of clinical nurses, and self-efficacy had a greater effect on resilience. To improve the resilience of clinical nurses, it is necessary to develop resilience improvement programs.

Changes in job stress, self-efficacy, depression and health-related quality of life according to the degree of musculoskeletal symptoms for white-collar workers (일반 사무직근로자의 근골격계 자각증상 정도에 따른 직무스트레스, 자기효능감, 우울 및 건강관련 삶의 질 변화)

  • The study aims to evaluate job stress, self-efficacy, depression and health-related quality of life according to musculoskeletal symptoms of the ordinary white-collar worker. The subjects of the study were 83 workers who were working D Health Center and Dgu office of Gwangju Metropolitan City and they were voluntarily interviewed with a use of organized questionnaire. Except the responses from three subjects whose responses were insincere of 102 ones were decided for the final analysis. The results showed that there were significant differences in all job stress, self-efficacy, depression and health-related quality of life according to musculoskeletal symptoms. Depression, self-efficacy, job stress were significantly correlated; however, health related to quality of life was not. Therefore, as the results indicate that job stress, self-efficacy, depression and health-related quality of life can be affected by musculoskeletal pain for office workers, there is a need for the development of programs focused on the prevention of musculoskeletal discomfort.

Effect of Clinical Nurses's Basic Psychological Need, Self-Leadership and Job Stress on Nursing Performance (임상간호사의 기본심리욕구, 셀프리더십, 직무스트레스가 간호업무 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to identify variables predicting of nursing performance with basic psychological need, self-leadership and job stress in clinical nurses. The participants were 160 clinical nurses, located in P city and D province in korea. Data were collected from Feb to March, 2016 by questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done by using SPSS WIN 18.0 program with independent t-test and analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression. This study shows positive correlations between nursing performance and basic psychological needs(r=.59, p<.001), autonomy(r=.31, p<.001), competency(r=.68, p<.001), relatedness(r=.48, p<.001), self-leadership(r=.58, p<.001), job stress(r=.19, p<.05). Basic psychological needs(${\beta}$=.43), self-leadership(${\beta}$=.33), job stress(${\beta}$=.21) have a 47.3%(Adj $R^2$ .473) explanatory power for the nursing performance in clinical nurses. This study confirmed that basic psychological needs, self-leadership and job stress were identified to improve nursing performance. Therefore we should develop programs in order to increase basic psychological needs and self-leadership.

Comparative Study on the Impact Factors in Job Stress in Occupational Therapists Working in Korean: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (국내 작업치료사의 직무스트레스 요인 비교 연구: 체계적 고찰과 메타분석)

  • In this study, Systematic review and meta-analysis using the correlation coefficients was carried out to integrate precedent studies on factors affecting domestic occupational therapists' job stress. It aims at providing basic information resources of preventing and reducing stress of occupational therapists and effective counter-measurement to improve quality of occupational therapy and to establish efficient human resource management policy. Systematic review and meta-analysis were performed on eight thesis proven relevant to selection criteria in order to figure out correlation coefficients value by total, and factors correlation coefficients value. Also homogeneity test and publication bias test was performed too. The total correlation coefficients value of occupational therapists was .30 which was statistically significant. As to job stress factors, the organization related factor showed the highest correlation of coefficiency, followed by factors other than the organization related, physical environment, job related factor and personal factor. This research result can be used as a reference to prevent and reduce job stress of occupational therapists and to develop an effective measurement scheme.

The Mediation Effect of Ego-resilience and the Moderated Mediation Effect of Social Support in the Relationship between Art Therapists' Job Stress and Burnout (미술치료사의 직무스트레스와 소진의 관계에서 자아탄력성의 매개효과와 사회적 지지의 조절된 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural relationship among job stress, ego-resilience, social support, and burnout of art therapists. This study verified the relationship and the effect by setting a research model with job stress as independent variable, ego-resilience as mediator variable, social support as control variable, and burnout as dependent variable based on the previous studies. In order to do this study, 300 questionnaires were distributed to art therapists and the 233 questionnaires were used finally for empirical analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, only career showed significant correlation among personal environmental factors (education, career, treatment time, income per hour, number of supervision). Second, the relationship between job stress and burnout was partially mediated by ego-resilience. Third, social support showed a regulation effect on the relationship between ego-resilience and burnout. Thus, ego-resilience showed a mediation effect in the path that job stress affects burnout, and this mediation effect varies with the level of social support. So the moderated mediation effect was confirmed.
