A Study of Relationships Among Conflict, Job Satisfaction, and Organizational Commitment on General Hospitals (종합병원 간호사의 갈등과 직무만족${\cdot}$조직몰입과의 관계)

  • Purpose: The objective of this research is to explore the degree of conflict of nurses, and the relationships among conflict, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment for providing effective management of nurses. Methods: The research was conducted from July 1 to 31, 2006, with a survey of 280 nurses at seven general hospitals in Seoul. The survey tools were used Rizzo et al(1970)' tool for role conflict and role ambiguity Park(1988)'s tool for vertical conflict, and horizontal conflict, Park-Yoon's tool for job satisfaction(1992) and Mowday et al(1979) for organizational commitment. The acquired data were analyzed with SPSS using descriptive methods, t-test, ANOVA, LSD, Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Overall conflict of nurses showed 3.00 .Job satisfaction of nurses revealed 3.12, and organizational commitment showed 3.34. The relationships between conflict and job satisfaction showed -65.6%. The relationships between conflict and organizational commitment revealed -56.2%. Conclusion: Conflict management is important factor of management for increasing job satisfaction and organizational commitment. It is needed that orientation and education program of detailed job description for nurses.

Job Analysis of School Health Teachers in Korea -based on DACUM Job Analysis- (초·중등학교 보건교사의 직무분석 -DACUM 기법을 이용한-)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to analyze the job of school health teacher in Korea. Methods: School health teachers' roles were analyzed by DACUM job analysis. Guide of DACUM methods and workshop were directed by a DACUM job analyst. The DACUM committee identified tasks associated with each duty and completed the DACUM chart. Results: Through DACUM job analysis, the roles of school health teachers were defined; one who manages health of students and staff, and conducts health education; 11 duties and 95 tasks were identified. The committee listed required knowledge and skills, working attitude, and future trends. Emergency and common disease care were the best critical duties, followed by health education, counseling, and self-development. Conclusion: School health teacher plays the roles of nurse and health care manager, and teacher. According to the expansion of health care needs and health education, school health teachers are placed in more essential and critical areas. Their duties and tasks are various and have changed significantly, thus the School Health Act should be changed practically. The results of this study can be used in development of training programs or evaluation of the job performance of school health teachers.

The Effect of Job Characteristics on Emotional Empowerment in Visiting Health Personnel (방문간호서비스의 직무특성이 방문보건인력의 심리적 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of job characteristics on emotional empowerment in visiting health personnel. Methods: Subjects were recruited in ten community health care centers in one directorial area. Data collection was done using a self-report questionnaire. Job characteristics of visiting healthcare personnel were measured using the questionnaire developed by Kang (2006), based on Hackman & Oldham (1975). Emotional empowerment was measured using the questionnaire developed by Kang (2006), based on Spreitzer (1995). Results: First, the score of job characteristics was revealed to be 3.51 points the task significance was high, and the feedback was low. Second, the level of emotional empowerment was revealed to be 3.78 points the meaning was high, and the impact was low. Third, the prediction power of job characteristics on emotional empowerment was 34% autonomy, task identity, and task significance were identified as statistically significant predictive factors. Conclusion: The job characteristics of visiting healthcare personnel are highly correlated with emotional empowerment. Autonomy, task identity, and task significance are predictive factors of emotional empowerment. These results can be used to develop more effective job planning for increasing organizational effectiveness in visiting healthcare personnel.

Development of Education and Training Programs and Job Analysis on 'Mechanical Facilities Maintenance Manager' Using DACUM (DACUM을 활용한 기계설비유지관리자 직무분석 및 교육훈련 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the development of education and training programs for training 'mechanical facilities maintenance manager'. To this end, the DACUM technique was used for job analysis and education and training programs were developed through expert consultation meetings. The job analysis was based on the 10-member DACUM Committee to derive the job definition, job model, job description, and task description of the 'mechanical facilities maintenance manager'. The main findings are as follows. First, the 'mechanical facilities maintenance manager' was defined as those who operate, inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical facilities to provide the best performance and efficient operation management, provide a safe and pleasant environment, and perform energy saving and facility life extension tasks. Second, the duties of the 'mechanical facilities maintenance manager' analyzed in the job model consist of the comprehensive plan for operation of mechanical facilities, energy management of mechanical facilities, operation management of mechanical facilities, maintenance of mechanical facilities, safety environment management of mechanical facilities, and customer support management of mechanical facilities. Considering the nature and content of the duties, 4 to 11 tasks per duty were derived and a total of 33 tasks were presented as job model. Third, the curriculum for the 'mechanical facilities maintenance manager' was set up in two courses: Practice I for Mechanical Facilities Maintenance and Practice II for Mechanical Facilities Maintenance. Considerations and policy suggestions were presented when applying and implementing education and training programs based on the results of the research.

A Case Study on Position Descriptions for the Testing Department at CESC Limited

  • Purpose - The study is primarily aimed at framing "Position Descriptions" for some key positions in the executive cadre of the testing department of CESC Limited. Research design, data, and methodology - The questionnaire, interview, and observation methods have been used for the purpose of data collection. The position descriptions are validated by superiors belonging to the respective departments. Results - It has been found that there is overlapping of job duties and job responsibilities in the department. This overlapping is quite alarming for the organization and may even become a hurdle in the path of its progress. It can be seen as a classic case of de-layering. Conclusions - The study concludes that good communication along with interpersonal and negotiation skills are absolutely essential to facilitate the performance of the day-to-day duties of a job, including handling the union, solving IR related issues, development of the subordinates, job setting, distribution and allocation, etc. Position descriptions will help in the alignment of the employee direction, and can be a useful tool to aid the communication between management and employees.

  • In this paper, we present, based on a systematic job analysis, the definition, flowchart and description of Ship Building & Ocean Engineering Technician's job in Ship Building & Ocean Engineering Industry for developing an Ship Building & Ocean Engineering education and training program in the context of Korea situation. In addition, it is suggested that the courses be directed toward job site-centered reform through conducting job analysis with experts in the environmental industry. serving new courses demanded by industries in practice and providing training programs for industries.

On-the-Job Experiences of Medical Aid Managers (의료급여관리사의 업무경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the job experiences of the medical aid client managers Method: The data were collected through an in-depth interview from twelve medical aid client managers. It was analyzed using the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi (1978). Their feedback was categorized into five items such as 'settlement in the unknown place,' 'exhaustion from work,' 'difficulties in dealing with people,' 'achievement of professionalism and accomplishment,' and 'vision on the new aspect.' Conclusion: Medical aid client managers played diverse roles and they had a role conflict due to unstable position amid feeling proud with new vision on their roles. The results of this study suggested that systematic development of job training programs and description on the duty are needed. Moreover, appropriate legal basis for the duty of medical aid client managers is to be established. Finally, based on this research, more acknowledgement from the Korean nursing society is needed for the new emerging professional job.

Influence of humor sense on job satisfaction and turnover intention in clinical dental hygienists (임상치과위생사의 유머감각이 직무만족과 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of humor sense on job satisfaction and turnover intention in clinical dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 277 dental hygienists in Chungnam from May to June, 2014. The instrument for humor sense was adapted from Thorson and Powell instrument by Lee and 20 questions. Each question included humor making and preference for humor and scored by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha in the study was 0.869. Job satisfaction was adapted from Smith Job Description Index and included task requirement, collaborate support, manager support, promotion, and wages and score by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha in the study was 0.827. Turnover intention was developed by Lee and 5 questions was score by Likert 5 scale. Crobach's alpha was 0.712 in the study. Results: The average of humor sense was 3.33, average of job satisfaction was 3.20, and average of turnover intention was 3.05. The sense of humor had a positive effect on turnover intention. Conclusions: This result will provide the high productivity and high quality of life in clinical dental hygienists. Humor sense is the important factor that support the job satisfaction and decrease the turnover intention.

Job Analysis of Health Guide Nurse for Role Identification: Focusing on Annual Health Guidance Membership Service (통합건강관리간호사 역할규명을 위한 직무분석: 연 회원제 건강관리 서비스 중심)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify nurses' role in the delivery of health guidance service within the annual health guidance membership service. Methods: Dynamic job analysis process was applied with vertical job analysis and horizontal job analysis through a focus group workshop and expert survey. Results: As a result of this study, job description was established with 4 duties, 11 tasks, 60 task elements. Major duties consisted of 'professional nurse practice', 'coordination and cooperation', 'education and consultation', and 'administrative work and improvement'. A job process map was also framed. Conclusion: The results can be used to establish nurses' role in providing health care service. Ongoing research on nurse's role as a health guider will be a fundamental base for health care service development and will contribute to expansion of common health management services.

Influence of Job Stress on Fatigue and Job Satisfaction - with Some 119 Emergency Medical Technician in Gyeonggido - (직무스트레스가 피로와 직무만족도에 미치는 영향 - 경기소방 일부 119구급대원을 중심으로 -)

  • Purpose : This study was to examine the influence of job stress of 119 Emergency Medical Technician on fatigue and job satisfaction. Methods : Subjects of this study were 228 Emergency Medical Technicians who worked at 119 Safety Center of total 92 fire stations in 12 cities of Gyeonggido including U, N, H, B, A, S, Y, G, G, G, P and I and the period of data collection was from July 11 to Sep. 10, 2007. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 14.0 version. Results : Conclusions of this study were as follows. 1) Factor related to organization among job stress factors had the greatest influence on fatigue (B = 0.334, p < 0.01), followed by crisis situation factor (B = 0.2042, p < 0.01), inappropriate treatment factor (B = 0.174, p < 0.05), role conflict factor as special job (B = 0.109, p < 0.05) and professional knowledge and technique factor (B = 0.109, p < 0.05), and the influence of job stress factors on fatigue was explained as $R^2=0.340$. 2) Mental burden factor of job stress factors had the greatest influence on job satisfaction (B = -0.606, p < 0.01), followed by organization factor (B = -0.473, p < 0.01) and interpersonal relation and conflict factor (B = -0.339, p < 0.01), and the influence of job stress factor on fatigue was explained as $R^2=0.308$. Conclusions : Job stress of 119 rescuer is increasing continuously and such an accumulated stress lowers the job efficiency. In order to reduce, job stress, it is important to extend(${\rightarrow}$ have) proper self-development, maintain close relationships and mutual correlations among members of organization in personal dimension and to solve the role conflicts, define the organizational roles and simplify excessive job description into concrete work.
