The subjects are 96 undergraduate students in Los Angeles of the USA. Elegant and refined images had a significant effort on perceiver's gender, so men tended to highly evaluate jeans as elegant and refined images than did women. Soft images were recognized differently by perceiver's major, so non-specialists in design tended to highly evaluate jeans as soft images than did specialists in design. In finishing, shattered wash was evaluated as the most individual, attractive, energetic, and splendid images, and stone wash was evaluated as the most ordinary, unattractive, and plain images. Light images tended to have interaction effects by majors and finishing. Specialists in design did not perceive differences between light images from finishing well, but non-specialists in design perceived that stone wash finishing's image is lighter than indigo blue finishing's image. Sociable images had interaction effects by perceiver's gender, majors and jeans' finishing, and especially non-specialists in men estimated that shattered wash has the lowest sociable images in finishing. According to evaluations about finishing images of ladies' jeans, men tended to be attracted by splendid images, and women tended to be attracted by sexy images. • The purpose of this study was to investigate muscle activity of the lower limbs when walking in jeans in order to obtain basic information for development of new jeans patterns with excellent movement adaptability. Using three types of jeans (basic, medium, and slim) with different ease on hip, knee circumference, and crotch length, and two different types of shoes, Electromyogram (EMG) of the lower limbs muscle was measured for four healthy subjects walking on treadmills and stairs. EMG of vastus lateralis, semitendinous, tibialis anterior and medial head of gastrocnemius muscles was measured. The muscle activity was assessed in RMS (Root Mean Square) value of the EMG. On the treadmill in sneakers, only the vastus lateralis muscle showed a significant difference in RMS value depending on patterns. Basic and medium jeans allowed higher muscle activity than trunks of slim jeans did. On the treadmill in high heels and slim jeans, the RMS values of all muscles were significantly smaller than in basic jeans, whereas no significant differences were shown while in trunks or medium jeans. On the stairs either in sneakers or in high heels, no significant differences were shown between all muscle activities for all types of jeans. On the treadmill, greater fatigue was induced in all muscles from walking in high heels than in sneakers for all jeans patterns. When walking on the stairs wearing either type of shoes, however, the effect of jeans pattern on muscle activities was different from muscle to muscle.

  • This study examines wearing conditions of skinny jeans for women in their 20's. The study is based on a questionnaire survey. The survey was conducted on 313 Korean 20's women living in Gwangju to analyze wearing dissatisfaction with skinny jeans. The final analysis included 298 responses and the content of the questionnaire consisted of 28 questions. The study used descriptive statistics for analysis using SPSS Statistics 20.0. According to the questionnaire survey, 20's women are the largest group that wear skinny jeans and they have a positive image of them. However, they do not know the exact size for skinny jeans, whereas they are knowledgeable about their general pants size. The results of the survey on the state of wearing dissatisfaction indicate that they think that the difference in size by each brand is the most difficult part when choosing skinny jeans and they felt lower body uncomfortableness in the waist and abdominal positions. It means that size subdivision and pattern development of skinny jeans should be suitable to all lower body types to resolve wearing dissatisfaction. This study represents base data for size subdivision and pattern development of skinny jeans.

  • This study was performed to analyze the wearing practice and the purchasing characteristics of jeans in order to offer basic data to produce superior jeans made of denim with small flexibility and to improve the wearing comfort. The questionnaire were 236 Korean women from the age of 10th to 50th. For data analysis, descriptive analysis and crosstabs were used. The results were as follows, in the purchasing characteristics, when the women of 10th to 30th decided to purchase jeans they considered fashion, design and price rather than wearing comfort. But the women of 40th to 50th considered that wearing comfort is the most important factor. The 10th is found the best preferred jean is wide straight style, the 20th is straight style, the 30th is boots cut style and the 40th to 50th is straight style. In wearing practice, there was a difference among age groups on the region that felt uncomfortable when wearing jeans. As the age increases, the abdomen size also increases. Most people answered that they mend jeans after purchase for length, without any relation with age. The reason why consumers prefer jeans with middle length between the crotch and waist and also purchase jeans with a short length is because they look refined and neat. This informs us that the short length between the crotch and waist does not match with ease and comfort, which are the images of jeans in the past. Recently premium jean brands are competing to show Low Rise Jeans, which seems like a Premium Jean=Low Rise Jean formula is created. Some manufacture companies are recklessly copying foreign designs that does not fit Korean's body shape. However, as mentioned in this study results, there is a clear difference between designs that they think consider as aesthetic and functional. Therefore, it is considered necessary for developing designs for jeans that can satisfy both aesthetic appreciation and functions for Korean consumer's body shape and each age group.
