  • The rapidity at which industrial and business management environment has become globalized, including the FTA, has provided valuable opportunities for domestic small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to obtain global technological business. However, it is unclear whether or not the SMEs' attempt to advance global technological business is producing fruitful results. This study begins with defining global technological business and the efforts of SMEs to develop them and proceeds to discuss survey results that asked the reasoning behind SMEs that entered or wish to enter foreign spheres (China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Europe) of businesses, and also perform factorial analysis to obtain substantiation. The study classified the relevant SMEs using clustering method. Based on the results, the study makes recommendations to executives in instilling global-minded strategies, on customized support strategies depending on the SME's capability and its intended foreign entry sphere, and on strengthening the SME's competence on the global scale.

  • The construction market has gradually become complexity, variety and specialization, and then owner's requirements about quality has become various. In order to solve the problem such as stated above, advanced constructions in France, United Kingdom, Japan and United States have introduced warranty contract which is warranted to quality and performance for need of owner in determined term to ensure the quality of construction since 1960s. In addition to, domestic constructions have been meeting with international competition because of the open BOT market from FTA. Finally, this study proposed new warranty delivery system model in PFI on considering domestic status by benchmarking the delivery process and the characteristics of the warranty contract which is applied to PFI of global.

  • Recently, it is expected that the agricultural and stockbreeding industry are damaged by the China-Japan-South Korea FTA and FTA between the United States and South Korea. After free trade, it is increasing to import crops, aquatic products, and livestock which are produced in a foreign land. But it is affected negatively to the trust relationships and markets, because of breaking it out that low grade foreign products are turned into domestic products. For this reason, we need the traceability management system. In this paper, it designs and implements the traceability management system using RFID and USN providing distribution traceability information as well as the traceability information of the growth environment, automatic control according to the facility growing and monitoring of the storehouse. The implemented whole systems consist of the growth environment monitoring and the traceability management. First, the growth environment monitoring shows the environment of plantation and automatic controller of the storehouse and growing facility. This growth environment monitoring information provides the detailed information about growth environment and writing the farming diary automatically by producer. Second, the traceability management provides all of the traceability information such as production, shipment and consumption to consumers. The traceability management system that has been designed and implemented using RFID and USN in this paper, provides the u-IT agriculture to producer and the reliability about agricultural products. In addition, this system provides the foundation data to operate GAP and HACCP, and becomes the advantaged agricultural products of the interior of a country by application of this system.

  • Purpose - The study investigates the history, production methods, market scale, and distribution of the traditional liquors of three countries: South Korean sokokju, Chinese shaoxing-chiew, and Japanese sake. These have similar production methods, being made from rice or cereal, cores of their respective food industries. Research design, data, and methodology - The study investigated the history of the three liquors, liquor classification in the three countries, and production methods. It examined the scale of the traditional liquor market and these countries' distribution structure. Results - Brand cognition of traditional liquors is affected by a focus on wellbeing and LOHAS (lifestyle of health and sustainability). Promotion and marketing strategies along with a high quality image, shelf life of draft liquor, traditional liquor identification systems, and high taxes on traditional liquor, and the need for continuous R&D and training of professionals all impacted the industry. Conclusions - These countries play important roles in world trade, seeking economic integration. By forming a free trade agreement (FTA), their traditional liquors, with a proud history, can be jointly branded in the world market.

  • This paper proposed a methodology to analyze the economic and quantitative effects of lifting the import ban on Japanese pears by applying a price gap approach in the absence of any preference for either type of pear. Assuming that Korea will allow Japanese pear imports in 2018, the simulation results show that an annual average of 50,000 tons will flow into the domestic market from Japan. These imports will cause a decrease in the price and production of domestic pears, which would have a direct effect on the domestic pear industry, leading to an annual average reduction of 93 billion won. The cultivation area and production quantity are projected to be decreased by 0.7% and 1.4%, respectively, compared to the baseline. Also, the annual average reduction in the overall agriculture sector is predicted to be about 209 billion won, which is a 0.4% reduction compared to the baseline. This research is expected to improve the methodologies available for proactive analysis, with the existing analysis focused on customs tariffs when Korea considers joining mega-FTAs.

  • Exports of Korean non-timber forest products to the Japanese market decreased 46.3% from 17.54 million dollars in 2010 to 9.42 million dollars in 2014. This research aims to find the appropriate strategies for exporting Korean non-timber products, such as chestnut, shitake, persimmon, and wild ginseng. We applied conjoint analysis to investigate the preferences of Japanese homemakers for Korean non-timber products. The results are as follows: (1) There is a clear distinction in the preference for the attributes and levels of products; (2).Korean products are preferred to Chinese products, but have lower competitiveness than Japanese products; (3) Japanese homemakers responded sensitively, not to the forest product prices, but to changes in their specific attributes. These results can be used to promote the export of Korean non-timber products to the Japanese market.

  • Settlement of investment disputes is quite different from that of commercial disputes arising from ordinary commercial transactions in view of disputing parties, applicable laws and rules, etc.. Therefore, it is very important to consider the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States(Washington Convention) of 1965. The creation of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes(ICSID), which was established under the Washington Convention, was the belief that an institution specially designed to facilitate the settlement of investment disputes between governments and foreign investors could help to promote increased flows of international investment. Pursuant to the Washington Convention, ICSID provides facilities for the conciliation and arbitration of disputes between member countries and investors who qualify as nationals of other member countries. Recourse to ICSID conciliation and arbitration is entirely voluntary. However, once the parties have consented to arbitration under the Washington Convention, neither can unilaterally withdraw its consent. Moreover, all Contracting States of the Washington Convention are required by the Convention to recognize and enforce ICSID arbitral awards. Provisions on ICSID arbitration are commonly found in investment contracts between governments of member countries and investors from other member countries. Advance consents by governments to submit investment disputes to ICSID arbitration can also be found in many bilateral investment treaties including the Korea-China Agreement on the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments(1992), the Korea-Japan Agreement for the Liberalization, Promotion and Protection of Investment(2003) and the Korea-Chile FTA, the latter was signed as of February 15, 2003 and is still pending in the National Assembly for its ratification. Arbitration under the auspices of ICSID is similarly one of the main mechanism for the settlement of investment disputes under the bilateral treaties on investment. Therefore, it is a problem of vital importance that Korean parties interested in investment to foreign countries should understand and cope with the settlement mechanism of investment disputes under the Washington Convention and bilateral investment treaties.

  • China has used the Antidumping policy as a trade protection tool against Japanese products due to reduce the deficit of trade balance of payment, boost the economic growth and protect its weak industries. This paper investigates whether there is a connection between the China's macroeconomic activity and pressures for protection to Japanese products under antidumping measures with using the current data that come from the WTO, World Bank for 1997 to 2010. The result suggests that pressures for protection under Antidumping measure against exporting of Japanese products to China have increased during periods of macroeconomic weakness like high unemployment, larger deficit of trade balance and decreased during periods of macroeconomic strength.

  • It is very difficult to export the fresh agricultural products to long distance countries such as USA and EU without any damage. Fresh products exporting would overcome very severe conditions such as hot and cold weather changes, heavy vibrations with rolling and pitching during the target distribution period, therefore, the packaging needs the immobility of products in the container and the keeping its quality by packaging materials or methods under any surrounding environments, especially. The physical strength of outer box should be designated according to its own characteristics for agricultural product packaging. Packaging dimension which would be fit to standard pallet is also very important factor to reduce the distribution cost. There have been many agricultural products researches for export packaging to the USA so far. However they have never got desirable results which enough to apply it in real. The main purpose of this research is to develop optimum compressive strength and optimum dimension of corrugated fiberboard box which would be used to USA export packaging of fresh melon as well as Japan.
