  • Aircraft Auxiliary Power Unit can start and operate using not only main fuel(JP-8) but also specified emergency fuels for emergency operation. In oder to verify emergency fuel requirement, emergency fuel test using commercial diesel fuel was performed. Changes in specific fuel consumption due to use of diesel fuel are 3.5%~7.8%, which satisfied requirement. Diesel fuel showed similar starting characteristic to the JP-8. The specific fuel consumption of diesel increased by 2.0%~3.4% compared with that of JP-8.

  • 영국의 베어링사, 미국의 오렌지 카운티, 미국의 프록터앤 갬블사 등 최근의 유명한 대형금융사고에는 파생금융상품이 관련되어 있었다. 최근 국내에서도 파생금융상품과 관련된 대형금융사고가 발생하였다. SK증권은 $\ulcorner$다이아몬드 펀드$\lrcorner$라는 역외펀드를 설립한 후, JP Morgan과 파생금융상품을 거래하였는데 최근의 동남아 통화위기로 인하여 SK증권은 커다란 손실을 본 것이다. 본고에서는 거래된 파생금융상품에 대한 정밀한 분석을 통하여 SK증권과 JP Morgan은 서로 엔화 및 바트화에 대한 외환옵션을 거래한 것과 동일함을 보인다. 또한 본고에서는 거래된 파생금융상품에 대하여 계약체결시점의 적정가치를 계산한다. 이러한 분석은 파생상품의 위험관리를 위한 가장 중요한 첫 단계가 될 것이다. 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. SK증권은 JP Morgan으로부터 5,300만 달러를 차입하면서 약 5,800만 달러의 가치가 있는 상환액을 지급하기로 하였으며 또한 약 8,540만 달러의 가치가 있는 인도네시아 루피아화 연동채권을 8,700만 달러를 지급하고 매입하였다 따라서 파생금융상품계약에 따른 전체적인 손실은 약 660만 달러에 이르는 것으로 분석되었다.

The Identification of Spilled Oil by the Pattern of Alkyl PAH

  • In order to identify the origin and nature of the spilled oil in the potential source, we analyzed the pattern of alkyi PAM(Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons) in fuel standard and environmental samples. Alkyl PAM patterns are used for fuel-type identification in weathered environmental samples. Detection of alkyl PAH was achieved by operation CC/MS in the SIM mode. We chose ions of naphthalene(m/z 128), C1-naphthalene(m/z 142), C2-naphthalene(m/z 156), C3-naphthalene(m/z 170), C4-naphthalene(m/z 184) for the comparison of this pattern according to the type of fuel. We analyzed tile pattern of alkyl PAH in neat gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and JP-8, and in groundwater samples which were collected in monitoring wells. The distribution map of alkyl-naphthalene shows different patterns among four different fuel types (gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and JP-8). Particularly, tile distribution map of kerosene and JP-8 is found to be of value in identifying fuel type in that the difference is clear. Therefore distribution patterns of alkyl-PAH compounds provide another useful tool for fuel-type identification of petroleum fuels.

Determination of Icing Inhibitors (Ethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether and Diethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether) in Ground Water by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

  • A gas chromatography/mass spectrometric assay method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of icing inhibitors, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether in ground water contaminated with JP-8. Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether were used as the internal standard and surrogate, respectively. 100 mL of ground water was extracted twice with 20 mL of methylene chloride. The extract was concentrated to dryness, dissolved with 100 ${\mu}$L of methanol and analyzed by GC-MS (SIM). The use of an Innowax column gave the peaks good chromatographic properties, and the extraction of these compounds from samples gave recoveries of about 50% with small variations. The method detection limits of the target compounds were in a range of 0.5-0.8 ng/mL in ground water.

Clinical Spectra of Auto-amputated Polyps: Comparison of Juvenile Polyps and Meckel's Diverticula (자동절제 대장 용종의 임상 양상: 연소성 용종 및 멕켈 게실과의 비교)

  • Purpose: The manner of rectal bleeding of auto-amputated polyps (AP) is similar to juvenile polyps (JP) or Meckel's diverticula (MD). We conducted this study to characterize the clinical spectrum of AP. Methods: Fourteen patients were enrolled this study who were diagnosed AP due to painless rectal bleeding. The clinical data of AP was assessed and then compared with the clinical data of JP and MD retrospectively. Results: The prevalence of AP was 10.4% (14/135) and high in younger patients compared with that of JP (p=0.042 below 2 years). Whereas JP was more common in patients aged 2 to 5 years (p=0.005). Male was predominant in AP (p=0.008 AP vs JP). The manner of rectal bleeding in AP group was sudden and transient. There was no significant difference in time interval between onset of rectal bleeding and diagnosis between the 3 groups. However AP was diagnosed in 9 patients (64.3%) within 7 days after onset of rectal bleeding, but JP was diagnosed in 5 patients (4.1%) in the same period (p<0.001). All of AP were located in the rectum and the sigmoid colon. The mean hemoglobin was 11.3${\pm}$1.5 g/dL in AP, 11.8${\pm}$1.3 g/dL in JP, and 8.4${\pm}$1.2 g/dL in MD (p<0.001, only significant in MD). Conclusion: AP may be considered in male older than 1 year with transient and sudden onset or increase of painless rectal bleeding without drop of hemoglobin level.

Effect of Joule Heating and Hydrostatic Pressure on Reduction of Total Aerobes and Spores of Bacillus cereus in Sauces Prepared with Traditional Korean Fermented Foods (장류를 이용하여 제조한 소스류의 총균 및 Bacillus cereus 포자에 대한 줄가열 및 초고압 처리 효과)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Joule heating and hydrostatic pressure on reduction of total aerobes and spores of Bacillus cereus in four kinds of sauces prepared with traditional Korean fermented foods. Total aerobes and inoculated spores of B. cereus in sauces were assayed after treatment or during storage at $30^{\circ}C$ after 4 or 8 weeks. Joule heating ($85^{\circ}C$), hydrostatic pressure (550 Mpa, 5 min), and antimicrobial additive (3% ethanol) were separately applied or combined as a hurdle technique. A 1.0~2.0 log reduction in total aerobes of Doenjang and Gochujang sauce was observed upon Joule heating at 80, 85, and $95^{\circ}C$. Significant reductions (0.92~1.21 log/0.5~1.38 log and 1.26~1.7 log/0.47~3.45 log) of total aerobes/spores of B. cereus in Doenjang and Gochujang sauce, respectively, occurred upon JA (Joule+additive), JP (Joule+hydrostatic pressure) or JAP (Joule+additive+ hydrostatic pressure). Effects of each treatments were maintained or increased during storage for 8 weeks at $30^{\circ}C$, suggesting that total aerobes and spores of B. cereus in Doenjang and Gochujang sauce can be controlled through Joule heating or hydrostatic pressure treatment.

THE INFLUENCE OF FAMILY ENVIRONMENT AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT TO CONDUCT DISORDER IN ADOLESCENTS (청소년의 가정환경과 도덕발달단계가 행동장애에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to know the influence of familial environment and moral development on conduct disorder. Subjects were composed of 47 male and female patients with conduct disorder(patients group), 113 general male and female students(normal group), and 173 juvenile prisoners(JP group). The Korean Form of the Family Environment Scale(FES) was used to assess the family environment of the subjects and the Korean Defining Issues Test(DIT) was used to assess the moral development. Conduct disorder was diagnosed with the DSM-III-R criteria for conduct disorder. The influence of familial environment and moral development on conduct disorder was analyzed with ANOVA and the differences among groups were verified with Scheffe test. There was no difference in the socioeconomic status and the physical abuse by the parents among the three groups. But the rates of divorce or separation of the parents were significantly highest in the JP group and higher in the patients group than in the normal group. Especially the subjects of the JP group experienced the divorce or separation of their parents during the preschool or the elementary school periods. In regard to the family environment, there was no difference among the three groups in the Subscales of Expressiveness, Independence, Intellectual-cultural orientation, Moral-religious emphasis, Organization, and Control. ‘Cohesion Subscale’ was significantly higher in the normal group than in the JP group. ‘Conflict Subscale’ was significantly higher in the JP and patients groups than in the normal group. ‘Achievement orientation Subscale’ was significantly lower in the JP group than in the patients and normal groups. ‘Activerecreational orientation’ was significantly lower in the normal group than in the JP and patients groups. In gegard to the moral developmental stage, the lower moral developmental step was higher in the JP and patients groups than in the normal group. The higher steps were significantly higher in the normal group than in the JP group. There was no significant correlation between the degree of ‘Moral-religious emphasis Subscale’ and the moral development. The clinical implication and limitation of present study were listed and discussed.

Assay of ${\beta}$-Glucosidase Activity of Bifidobacteria and the Hydrolysis of Isoflavone Glycosides by Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57 in Soymilk Fermentation

  • The isoflavone glycosides are hydrolyzed by ${\beta}$-glucosidase from gut microbes to the bioactive aglycones. However, the specific bacteria from the human intestinal tract that are involved in the metabolism of these compounds are not known. This study was undertaken to develop a fermented soymilk which converts isoflavones to the more bioactive aglycones form using a Bifidobacterium strain. The ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity of 15 Bifidobacterium strains were measured during cell growth. Among them, Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57 was selected for this study, because it has the highest ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity. Growth, acid development, ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity, and the hydrolysis of daidzin and genistin were investigated in four soymilks inoculated with Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57. After 12 h of fermentation, the counts of viable Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57 in all the soymilks reached a level of more than $10^8$ cfu/ml, which was then maintained. The pH of soymilks started to decrease rapidly after 6 h of fermentation and leveled off after 18 h. The titratable acidity of BL# 1 soymilk, BL#2 soymilk, and JP#l soymilk increased from 0.18 to 1.21, 1.15, and $1.08\%$ over the fermentation period, respectively. After 24 h of fermentation, the $\beta$-glucosidase activity in BL#1 soymilk, BL#2 soymilk, JP#l soymilk, and JP#2 soymilk increased to 59.528, 40.643, 70.844, and 56.962 mU/ml, respectively. The isoflavone glycosides, daidzin and genistin, in soymilks were hydrolyzed completely in the relatively short fermentation time of 18 h. These results show that Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57 can be used as a potential starter culture for developing fermented soymilk which has completely hydrolyzed isoflavone glycosides.

Electrochemical Degradation of Phenol Using Dimensionally Stable Anode (촉매성 산화물 전극을 이용한 페놀의 전기화학적 분해)

  • Electrochemical degradation of phenol was evaluated at DSA (dimensionally stable anode), JP202 (Ru, 25%; Ir, 25%; other, 50%) electrode for being a treatment method in non-biodegradable organic compounds such as phenol. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of applied current (1.0~4.0 A), electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $H_2SO_4$) and concentration (0.5~3.0 g/L), initial phenol concentration (12.5~100.0 mg/L) on phenol degradation and $UV_{254}$ absorbance as indirect indicator of by-product degraded phenol. It was found that phenol concentration decreased from around 50 mg/L to zero after 10 min of electrolysis with 2.5 g/L NaCl as supporting electrolyte at the current of 3.5 A. Although phenol could be completely electrochemical degraded by JP202 anode, the degradation of phenol COD was required oxidation time over 60 min due to the generation of by-products. $UV_{254}$ absorbance can see the impact of as an indirect indicator of the creation and destruction of by-product. The initial removal rate of phenol is 5.63 times faster than the initial COD removal rate.

Determination of trace icing Inhibitors (ether type) in free-floating fuels by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

  • A gas chromatography/mass spectrometric assay method was developed for the simultaneous determination of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGME) in spilled aviation fuels. Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EGBE) and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether (EGEE) were used as internal standard and surrogate, respectively. The sample preparation consists of back-extraction with 7 mL of methylene chloride after extraction of 50 mL of fuel with 2 mL of water. The extract was concentrated to dryness and dissolved with 100L of methanol and analyzed by CC-MS (SIM). The peaks had good chromatographic properties by using semi-polar column and the extraction of these compounds from fuel also gave high recoveries of 75 and 85 % with small variations for EGME and DEGME, respectively. Method detection limits were 1.3 ng/mL for EGME and 1.0 ng/mL for DEGME in spilled fuel. The method may be useful for fuel-type differentiation between kerosene and JP-8, which may originate from the storage tank.
