This paper is concerned with preventive maintenance model for the items whose failures are dependent on their wear level. The previous maintenance models have used time as their decision variable, but it is not appropriate for the case which have wear dependent processes for their failures. In this paper, we consider an operating item which is under periodic review and which is subject to degradation. The scheduled maintenance (overhaul ) is based on the level of item degradation rather time. A functional equation for the total expected cost over an infinite horizon period is formulated and solved.

In this paper, the one period multi-item inventory model is considered in which it is required to determine the production quantity and selling price of each item which maximize the probability of realizing predetermined level of profit. The objective function of this model is the sum of weighted probabilities which represent the possibility of obtaining the predetermined level of profit for each item. Budget constraint, inventory site constraint and constraints of price are considered. Finally this paper shows a numerical example in which random demand of each item has exponential distribution.
The purposes of this study were: 1) to show the item difficulty hierarchy of walking/moving construct of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health-Activity Measure (ICF-AM), 2) to evaluate the item-level psychometrics for model fit, 3) to describe the relevant physical activity defined by level of activity intensity expressed as Metabolic Equivalent of Tasks (MET), and 4) to explore what extent the empirical activity hierarchy of the ICF-AM is linked to the conceptual model based on the level of energy expenditure described as MET. One hundred and eight participants with lower extremity impairments were examined for the present study. A newly created activity measure, the ICF-AM using an item response theory (IRT) model and computer adaptive testing (CAT) method, has a construct on walking/moving construct. Based on the ICF category of walking and moving, the instrument comprised items corresponding to: walking short distances, walking long distances, walking on different surfaces, walking around objects, climbing, and running. The item difficulty hierarchy was created using Winstep software for 20 items. The Rasch analyses (1-parameter IRT model) were performed on participants with lower extremity injuries who completed the paper and pencil version of walking/moving construct of the ICF-AM. The classification of physical activity can also be performed by the use of METs that is often preferred to determine the level of physical activity. The empirical item hierarchy of walking, climbing, running activities of the ICF-AM instrument was similar to the conceptual activity hierarchy based on the METs. The empirically derived item difficulty hierarchy of the ICF-AM may be useful in developing MET-based activity measure questionnaires. In addition to convenience of applying items to questionnaires, implications of the finding could lead to the use of CAT method without sacrificing the objectivity of physiologic measures.
For maintaining adequate psychometric properties when reducing the number of items from an instrument, item level psychometrics is crucial. Strategies such as low item correlation or factor loadings, using classical test theory, have traditionally been advocated. The purpose of this study is to describe the development of a new short form assessing the impact of low back pain on physical activity. Rasch measurement model has been applied to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Activity Measure (ICF-AM). One hundred and one individuals with low back pain aged 19-89 years (mean age: $48.1{\pm}17.3$) who live in the community were participated in the study. Twenty-seven items of lifting/carrying construct of the ICF-AM were analyzed. Ten items were selected from the construct to create a short form. Item elimination criteria include: 1) high or low mean square (out of the range: .6-1.4 for the fit statistics), 2) similar item calibrations to adjacent items, 3) person separation value, and item-person map for potential gap in person ability continuum. All 10 items of the short form fit to the Rasch model except one item (i.e., carrying toddler on back). Despite its high infit and outfit statistics (1.90/2.17), the item had to be reinstated due to potential gaps at the upper extreme of person ability level. The short form had a slightly better spread of person ability continuum compared to the entire set of item. The created short form separated individuals with low back pain into nearly 4 groups, while the entire set of items separated the individuals into 6 groups. The findings prompted multidimensional models for better explanation of the lifting/carrying domain. The item level psychometrics based on the Rasch model can be useful in developing short forms with rationally retained items.
The purpose of this article is to examine the effects of item parceling on the consistency of significance testing of the causal parameters with regard to the relationship between the relevant constructs, as well as the effects of the item parceling on the goodness-of-fit indices of LISREL's general models. Most of the researchers' major purpose of using structural equation modeling (SEM) is to test their research hypotheses associated with the causal parameters. Therefore, we investigated three general models of LISREL, rather than the frequently used confirmatory factor analytic (CFA) models by many other researchers. The results of the study showed that there was a high level of consistency in the calculated test statics of causal parameters between the item-parceled solutions and the item-level solutions, and that the item-parceled solutions had better goodness-of-fit indices, such as GFI, AGFI, CFI, and NFI, than the solutions at the item level. However, in terms of RMSEA, there was no such tendency.

Objectives : To develop a tool for multidimensional measurement of the quality of life, which was psychometrically sound, short, and easy to administer for patients with hypertension. Methods : A sample of 1,115 hypertensive patients aged 20 or above in Cheong-Song County was studied from June 1997 to October 1998. In the development of the instrumental stage, the authors first conceptualized the quality of life. Item generation, item reduction, and questionnaire formatting were followed. Item-level (item descriptive, missing%, item internal consistency, item discriminant validity) analysis, scale-level (scale descriptive, floor and ceiling effect) analysis, and other tests(Cronbach's alpha, inter-dimension correlations, factor analysis, clinical validity) were performed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the new measurement scale. After 1 year, responsiveness and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. Results : The results of both item-level and scale-level analyses were acceptable. An acceptable degree of internal consistency was observed for each of the dimensions (Cronbach's alpha was 0.60 or higher). Inter-dimension correlations were below 0.50 and the factor analysis result was the same as the intended dimension structure. Correlation coefficients between perceived health status, stress and dimensions were proven to be acceptable. The result of comparing dimensional score means among ADL and MMSE-K groups above 60 years was statistically significant(p<0.05). The result of confirmatory factor analysis concluded that the dimensional structure model was well fitted. However, the result of responsiveness test using sensitivity and specificity was unsatisfactory. Conclusions : The newly developed measurement scale is psychometrically reliable and valid instrument for measuring quality of life in hypertensive patients.

This article concerns the problem of determining the optimal spare inventory level for multiechelon repairable-item inventory system. The system we are concerned has several bases and a central depot. When an item fails, it is dispatched to a repair facility and, a spare, if available, is plugged in immediately. When the failed item is repaired, it is sent to the base and either used to fill a backorder or stored at a spare inventory point. We develop an optimal algorithm to find the spare inventory level at each base spareswhich minimizes the total expected cost and, simultaneously, satisfies a specified minimum service rate. The algorithm is applied to examples with good results.

This paper concerns the problem of determining the spare inventory level for multi-echelon repairable-item inventory system with finite number of operating items. We consider the system which has several bases and a central depot. When an item fails, it is dispatched to a repair facility and, a spare, if available, is plugged in immediately. When the failed item is repaired, it is sent to the base and either is used to fill a backorder or is stored at a spare inventory point. Using queueing network, we develop an algorithm to find the spare inventory level which minimizes the total expected cost and, simultaneously, satisfies a specified minimum fill rate. The results of the algorithm clearly indicate that the algorithm successfully generate output with optimal solution.
The purpose of this study is to develop a test, which can be used in creative problem solving ability in mathematics of the mathematically gifted and the regular students. This test tool is composed of three categories; fluency (number of responses), flexibility (number of different kinds of responses), and originality (degree of uniqueness of responses) which are the factors of the creativity. After applying to 462 middle school students, this test was analyzed into item analysis. As a results of item analysis, it turned out to be meaningful (reliability: 0.80, validity: item 1(1.05), item 2(1.10), item 3(0.85), item 4(0.90), item 5(1.08), item difficulty: item 1(-0.22), item 2(-0.41), item 3(0.23), item 4(0.40), item 5(-0.01), item discriminating power: item 1(0.73), item 2(0.73), item 3(0.67), item 4(0.51), item 5(0.56), over the level of a standard basis. This means that the test tool was useful in the test process of creative problem solving ability in mathematics
Purpose : This study aimed to examine the item characteristics of the Korean version of the intensive care experience questionnaire (K-ICEQ) using the Rasch analysis model of the item response theory. Methods : In this methodological study, the validity of the scale was examined, and a secondary analysis was conducted using cohort data of patients who were discharged from the intensive care units (ICU). Data from 891 patients who responded to the K-ICEQ upon ICU discharge were analyzed. The WINSTEP program was used to analyze item characteristics, including item difficulty, fit indices, appropriateness scale, and separation reliability. Results : The difficulty level of all 26 items of the K-ICEQ was appropriate, and the fit indices of the 25 items, except for item 18, were good. The 5-point scale of the K-ICEQ was not appropriate in the three subscales. The item separation reliability was good in all subscales, but did not meet the criteria in terms of respondents. Conclusion : The results of examining the item characteristics of the K-ICEQ revealed a good degree of difficulty, fitness, and item separation reliability. To increase the validity of the K-ICEQ, we suggest the rearrangement of the overall item order, modification of the item description of the "recall of experience" subscale, and reduction of the scale response level.
