Experiments on corresponding jet flames with stagnant point diffusion flames have been carried out in initial injection periods. A compensated measurement of maximum flame temperature, which is based on the ion signal, has been employed to inspect flame responses to time-varying strain rates. The flame responses are obtained at two conditions for the slowly time-varying strain rate and the case of flame extinction, and analyzed to confirm similarity between a stagnant point diffusion flame and an evolving jet diffusion flame. Nonsteady effects are addressed via the comparison between several time scales. The time variation with low strain rates, in which illustrates the flame behavior of the upper branch far from extinction in the well-known S-curve, is confirmed to produce a quasi-steady flame response through the nonsteady experiments. The time variation with strain rates in the case of flame extinction indicates an unsteady effect of flame response. It is therefore found that the flame responses near jet tip depend on time histories of characterized strain rates in the developing process.
In this study, a series of ionic liquids based electrolytes for lithium batteries were prepared by mixing the anion functionalized ionic liquid, [DMIm][MPEGP] (1,3-dimethylimidazolium (2-methoxy(2-ethoxy(2-ethoxy)))-ethylphosphite), with the lithium salt, LiTf2N (lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide), and the concentration of lithium salt was varied between 0 and 3.0 molar ratio. We observed the ionic mixtures became opaque and spontaneously aggregated to form a thermotropic ionic liquid crystal. Extensive spectroscopic examinations of the ionic liquid crystals were carried out to investigate their self-organized structures and the ion transport behavior depending on the concentration of lithium salt. An increase in the ionic conductivity was observed for the ionic liquid crystals related to the ability to form ion diffusion pathways along the ordered structures, resulting in improved electrochemical performances of lithium batteries.
$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ is prepared through a solid-state reaction between $Li_2CO_3$ and anatase $TiO_2$ for applications in lithium-ion batteries. The rate capability is measured and the electrode polarization is analyzed through the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT). The rate characteristics and electrode polarization are highly sensitive to the amount of carbon loading. Polarization of the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode continuously increases as the reaction proceeds in both the charge and discharge processes. This relation indicates that both electron conduction and lithium diffusion are significant factors in the polarization of the electrode. The transition metal (Cu, Ni, Fe) ion added during the synthesis of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ for improving the electrical conductivity also greatly enhances the rate capability.
The transfer of chloride ion across an anion exchange membrane (AEM) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectra. In CV experiment, when the size of the hole in membrane was much smaller than the distance between membrane holes, the Cl anion transfer showed steady state voltammetric behavior. Each hole in membrane can be regarded as a microelectrode and the membrane was equivalent to a microelectrode array in this condition. When the hole in membrane was large or the distance between membrane holes was small, the CV curve of the Cl anion transfer across membrane showed peak shape, which attributed to linear diffusion. In ac impedance measurement, the impedance spectrum of the membrane system was composed of two semicircles at low de bias, corresponding to the bulk characteristics of the membrane and the kinetic process of ion transfer, respectively. The bulk membrane resistance increases with increasing dc bias and only one semicircle was observed at higher dc bias. The parameters related to kinetic and membrane properties were discussed.
The deionization behavior in plasma during arc discharge of mercury arc rectifier depends on ambipolar diffusion. It is shown here in the quantitative analysis that a diameter of arc path which affects the mercury arc rectifier characteristics is related with the density of charged particles in plasma, the particle number of extruguish ion, the deionizing time and the recovering time of grid controlled ability. The conclusion would he useful for designing a diameter of arc path of mercury arc rectifier by quantitative method. And it could be applied to the designing of electrical apparatus using arc discharge phenomena.

The cracks occurred during service life of concrete structure should be considered in durability design, because of the concrete's material property which is weak in tensile strength. In this study, the fly ash concrete mixtures considering 2 levels of strength is designed and outdoor exposure tests are conducted for those concrete specimens. The exposure environment is set to a splash zone, and in order to evaluate the effect of crack width on the behavior of chloride diffusion, the crack width of up to 1.0 mm is generated at intervals of 0.1 mm at each concrete mixture. After that, apparent chloride diffusion coefficient and surface chloride contents are deducted considering 3 levels of exposure periods(180 days, 365 days, 730 days). The diffusion coefficients of two types of mixture increase with the increase of crack width, and the diffusion coefficients decrease with the increase of exposure periods. In addition, the effect of the crack width on the diffusion coefficient is reduced as the exposure periods increase, which is attributed to the extra hydrate by chloride ion reducing the diffusivity of concrete. The behavior of the surface chloride contents does not significantly change by the increase in crack width, compared to the behavior of apparent chloride diffusion coefficient. Also, In the high strength FA concrete mixture, the surface chloride contents are 78.9 % ~ 90.7 % than the normal FA strength concrete mixture. Thus, Surface chloride contents have correlation with the strength of concrete.
In the present study, the discharge characteristics of a lithium-ion battery was evaluated to calculate the rate of heat generation under various discharge rates by mathematical modeling. The modeling and simulation of a pseudo-two dimensional ionic transport system for governing Butler-Volmer equation were carried out by using FEMLAB as a PDE (partial differential equation) solver, where the discharge rate was changed from 5 $A/m^2$ to 25 $A/m^2$. The computational results showed that the concentration of consumed solid-phase lithium at the surface of electrode was increased with increasing discharge rates. While the resulting diffusion limitation occurred shortly, it increased the rate of heat generation even more rapidly for the internal voltage to approach the cutoff voltage of the lithium-ion battery.

Recently, premature reinforcement corrosion in concrete structures exposed to chloride containing environments has an important problem. This is due to an increasing use of marine aggregate of chloride containing admixture a the mixing stage and due to an increase of concrete construction in marine environments. In this study, the behavior of chloride ions introduced into concrete from concrete surface by a marine environment was modeled. The physicochemcial processes including the diffusion of chloride ion in aqueous phase of pores, the adsorption and desorption of chloride ions to and from the surface of solid phase of concrete, and the chemical reaction of chloride ion with solid phase were analyzed by using the finite element method. The results of this study may be used to predict the onset of reinforcement corrosion, and identify the maximum limit of chloride ions contained in admixtures.
For finding the effects of As on $TiSi_2$ formation, sputter deposited Ti film on Si substrates implanted with various doses of As have been rapid thermal annealed in Ar atmosphere at temperatures of 600-900$^{\circ}C$ for 20 sec. The sheet resistance of Ti-Silicides was examined with 4-point probe, the thickness with ${\alpha}$-step, and the As dopant behavior in Si substrates with ASR. The thickness of Ti-Silicides decreased with increasing As doping, but Ti-Silicides sheet resistance increased with increasing it. However, the critical concentration effect reported by Park et al. was not observed. We observed that the thickness of native oxide increase with increasing As doping. Thus, we concluded that native oxide act as a "barrier" for the Si diffusion.

Coastal concrete structure is harmed by physical and chemical action of sea water, impact load, meteorological effect and etc. especially, premature reinforcement corrosion in concrete exposed to sea water has an important problem. In this study, the behavior of chloride ions penetrated through the coastal concrete structure with ordinary portland cement or ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS) was modeled. The physicochemical processes including the diffusion of chloride and the chemical reaction of chloride ion with calcium silicate hydrate and the other constituents of hardened cement paste such as$C_3A$ and $C_4AF$were analyzed by using the Finite Element Method. From analysis result, the corrosion of concrete structure with GGBFS begins 1.69~1.76 times later than that of concrete structure with ordinary portland cement.
