  • In this paper we consider the modified continual reassessment method in which a cohort consists of three patients. Simulation has been a main research tool in the investigation of CRM. In this paper we propose complete enumeration as an alternative of simulation. Using new method we show that the expected toxicity rate at the MTD converges to the target toxicity rate well as the sample size increases.

  • This is a case study of stability analysis and reinforcement design for the tunnel where the collapse of the entrance slops occured along the fault zone developed in the bed rock. According to the site investigation, the main factor of sliding is the influence of fault gouge and heavy rainfall. Considering the in-situ condition, the versatile reinforcement methods is needed, and so the close investigation on the site area was accompanied with the stability analysis of tunnel and slops. The FRP(Fiberglass reinforced plastic) grouting method improved the defect of Steel Umbrella Arch Method, such as oxidation, low work efficiency, the material's heavy weight, is adapted as the reinforcement methods.

  • Seoul subway is an safety, quick, and clean public transportation to secure citizens safety. One of the most important elements of train is optimizing railroad function and need to conform railroad inspection for function maintenance. Railroad is the most biggest part of the railroad facility and it is a structure which requires sustainable maintenance. The purpose of study is to improve domestic metropolitan railroad facility inspection method and period. For this, we refer documents about present roving method, roving members and period of railroad roving. In addition, analyzed problems of railroad roving investigation method and period by examining the type and standards of railroad investigation and interviewing experts. By this, we analyzed improving plan and expectations of railroad maintenance and repair operation.

  • The studies were carried on to set up a short term blood culture method which is essential for doing bovine cytogenetic investigation and to reduce the amount of the various reagents wish better results obtained with modified methods were compared with the results of Basrur's and Halnan's methods, and the following results were obtained. 1. The modified method, with lesser amount of reagents than other methods, produced better results and showed cleaner spreads. 2. Better spreads were obtained, in the modified method, by modifying the hypotonic treatment. 3. Reduction of the PHA to 1/10 comparison with the other methods showed no harmful effects.

  • Residual stresses play important role for design of steel structural members. Cold formed sections usually have residual stresses caused by roll forming. When compared to stresses caused by the working load, especially for compressed members, the effects of residual stresses can be favorable or unfavorable depending on magnitude, orientation and distribution of these stresses. The research presented in this paper includes experimental investigations of residual stresses, initial imperfections and material properties on cold formed carbon steel open cross sections. Experimental results have been compared to results obtained in similar tests with stainless and high strength steel cross sections. Theoretical and experimental research, conducted for cold formed open cross sections, are important for design of axially compressed members. This paper presents two methods of residual stresses investigation: magnetic method and method of pre-drilled holes and obtained results have been compared with results of residual stresses from other authors.

  • A two-dimensional flutter analysis method (2d-3DOF method) was developed to simultaneously investigate the relationship between oscillation parameters and aerodynamic derivatives of three degrees of freedom, and to clarify the coupling effects of different degrees of freedom in flutter instability. With this method, the flutter mechanism of two typical bridge deck sections, box girder section and two-isolated-girder section, were numerically investigated, and both differences and common ground in these two typical flutter phenomena are summarized. Then the flutter stabilization effect and its mechanism for long-span bridges with box girders by using central-slotting were studied by experimental investigation of aerodynamic stability and theoretical analysis of stabilizing mechanism. Possible explanation of new findings in the evaluation trend of critical wind speed through central vent width is finally presented.

  • Until recently, limestone yield production is mainly depend on geological investigation and boring. In the study seismic and electrical method are applied to calculate the basic data of limestone yield production. the result of geophysical prospecting, the depth of bed rock is approximately 17m. And there is a slightly difference between the limestone layer boundary which is drawn by electrical prospecting method and that of geological investigation.

  • A comprehensive investigation of the Ronen method is performed in homogeneous and heterogeneous slab problems from the Sood benchmark, considering isotropic and linearly-anisotropic problems. Three finite differences implementations are exercised and compared. The results are compared to reference solutions using one and two energy groups. The validation is performed for the criticality eigenvalue and the fundamental neutron flux distribution. The results demonstrate the significantly improved accuracy achievable by the Ronen method using a broad set of problems. For standard convergence tolerances, the maximal deviation in criticality eigenvalue is less than ten pcm, and the maximal deviation in the spatial distribution of the flux is less than 2%, always located near sharp interfaces or vacuum boundaries.

  • The current comparison methods with scoring systems that are used to compare visualized latent fingerprints (LF) have disadvantages. Evaluators using these methods are prone to make errors and fail to discriminate LFs correctly to notice the differences among those LFs. Therefore, a comparative and quantitative evaluation method that is capable of obtaining more objective and quantitative results is needed. Densitometric image analysis (DIA) is used in other fields as a reliable semi-quantitative comparison method. To apply DIA to LFs, the potential variables that can occur during the DIA process were tested. The visualized ridges of LFs can be compared using the concentration of dots against the background to make it possible to analyze the ridges with DIA. The variables that can be present during the DIA process include the thickness of the analysis line, the number of ridges to be taken, the number of divided zones within each of the fingerprints, and the angles of the analysis line against the ridge lines that were selected. From the analysis of the inked fingerprints and circular lines that are similar to fingerprints, the angle of the analysis lines with the ridge line was the most significant variable. The preliminary test result was applied to the comparison of LFs that were developed with the powder method and then compared with the AFIS analysis. A similar trend was found, and a more detailed and semi-quantitative comparison of the visualized LFs was possible. In the future, it is necessary to check the evaluative ability of the DIA method by analyzing the visualized LFs with other various development methods. However, DIA is currently an option that can be used as an objective comparative evaluation method during fingerprint studies with supplementary role.
