Flame temperatures were measured and compared using a rapid insertion technique and a two-color pyrometry with Abel inversion process in co-flow ethylene diffusion flames. The measured line-of-sight temperature showed very limited usefulness in understanding the detailed soot formation/oxidation process in a co-flow diffusion flame. The flame temperatures could be measured with reasonable accuracy for the soot laden regions in ethylene diffusion flames using two-color pyrometry with an Abel inversion technique. Two-color-pyrometry with Abel inversion was demonstrated as a useful temperature measurement technique for co-flow diffusion flames, expecially under pressure conditions, where a thermocouple is not applicable. The soot volume fraction could be also obtained using tow-color pyrometry with Abel inversion, which provides important information for understanding the soot formation/oxidation mechanism in diffusion flames.
In this paper, we use a computational algorithm for the inversion of the one and two-dimensional $\mathcal{L}_2$-transform based on the Bromwich's integral and the Fourier series. The new inversion formula can evaluate the inverse of the $\mathcal{L}_2$-transform with considerable accuracy over a wide range of values of the independent variable and can be devised for the functions which are not Laplace transformable and have damping motion in small interval near origin.
Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) offers the highest security per bit among the known public key cryptosystems. The operation of ECC is based on the arithmetic of the finite field. This paper presents the design of a 193-bit finite field multiplier and an inversion unit based on a normal basis representation in which the inversion and the square operation units are easy to implement. This scalable multiplier can be constructed in a variable structure depending on the performance area trade-off. We implement it using Verilog HDL and a 0.35 ${\mu}m$ CMOS cell library and verify the operation by simulation.
In principle, both radiation and collision are capable of pumping the SiO masers. In order to check which pumping mechanism is more efficient, we calculated the rate equation for our model including the 3 vibrational slates with 7 rotational states of each vibrational slate. Through solving the radiative transfer equation with the Sovolev approximation, we estimated the line profiles from an expanding envelope for several transitions. It is found that the collision works more efficiently than the radiation for the inversion in excited vibrational stales. However in an expanding envelope model we could not get the strong line intensity as observed one because the population inversion is possible only in a small restricted region. For the enough population inversion to get type observed maser intensity. the number density of SiO and hydrogen molecules should be up to about $2{\times}10^5\;cm^{-3}$ and $1{\times}10^9\;cm^{-3}$, respectively, and the inversion should be occured in the region of no Jess than 11014cm.

Channel inversion is one of the simplest techniques for multiuser downlink systems with single-antenna users. In this paper, we extend the regularized channel inversion technique developed for the single-antenna user case to multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels with multiple-antenna users. We first employ the multiuser preprocessing to project the multiuser signals near the null space of the unintended users based on the MMSE criterion, and then the single-user preprocessing is applied to the decomposed MIMO interference channels. In order to reduce the complexity, we focus on non-iterative solutions for the multiuser transmit beamforming and use a linear receiver based on an MMSE criterion. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms existing joint iterative algorithms in most multiuser configurations.

In this paper, the impedance of a piezoelectric transducer is calculated using the three-dimensional finite element method. The validity of numerical routine is confirmed experimentally. Using this numerical routine, the effects of material coefficients on piezoelectric actuators characteristics are analyzed. The material constants, which make significant effects, are selected and the relations between material constants are studied. Using these processes, three variables of material constants for a piezoelectric transducer are selected and the design sensitivity method is adopted as an inversion scheme. The validity of the inversion scheme for a piezoelectric transducer is confirmed by applying the proposed method to the sample piezoelectric transducer.

The SRS method is applied to a turbulent flame with radiation/turbulence interaction to invert the temperature and concentration profile. The flame is conditioned as optically thin per each fluctuation length and the flame spectral intensity is measured for inversion. From inversion result, we find that SRS can successfully invert the coupled temperature/concentration fluctuation amplitudes. For two cases of experiments, inverted values are within approximately 1% over the full range of fluctuation amplitude. However, SRS cannot find the detailed local fluctuation parameters such as pattern and phase, etc. as far as they do not affect the resulting radiation intensity. Important available parameters are the mean temperature and the temperature fluctuation amplitude. The radiation/turbulence interaction effect is verified to play an important role in the radiation.
This paper presents results of interpretaton of gravity data by iterative nonlinear inversion methods. The gravity data are obtained by a theoretical formula for two-dimensional 2-layer structure. Depths to the basement of the structure are determined from the gravity data by four interative inversion methods. The four inversion methods used here are the Gradient, Gauss-Newton, Newton-Raphson, and Full Newton methods. Inversions are performed by using different initial guesses of depth for the over-determined, even-determined, and under-determined cases. This study shows that the depth can be determined well by all of the methods and most efficiently by the Newton-Raphson method.
The frequency-domain small-loop electromagnetic (EM) instruments are increasingly used for shallow environmental and geotechnical surveys because of their portability and speed. However, it is well known that the data quality is generally so poor that quantitative interpretation of the data is not justified in many cases. We present an inversion method that allows the correction for the calibration errors and also constructs multidimensional resistivity models. The key point in this method is that the data are collected at least at two different heights. The forward modeling used in the inversion is based on an efficient 3-D finite-difference method, and its solution was checked against 2-D finite-element solution. The synthetic and real data examples demonstrate that the joint inversion recovers reliable resistivity models from multi-frequency data severely contaminated by the calibration errors.
A robust objective function in the frequency domain is applied to the acoustic full waveform inversion. The proposed objective function is defined as $l_1$-norm of residual wavefields in the frequency domain. Generally, the full waveform inversion is extremely sensitive to a number of factors such as parameterization, initial model, noise and so on. The numerical tests were performed for checking the sensitivity to attenuation and several noises. For the comparison with other objective functions, the conventional least-squares method and the logarithmic method were tested under the same condition. The synthetic data examples show that the proposed algorithm is more robust than the well-known methods.
