  • A Walsh function method is proposed in this report for the analysis and optimal control of linear time-delay systems, which is based on the Picard's iterative approximation and fast Walsh transformation. In this research, the following results are obtained: 1) The differential and integral equation can be solved by transforming into a simple algebraic equation as it was possible with the usual orthogonal function method: 2) General orthogonal function methods require usage of Walsh operational matrices for delay or advance and many calculations of inverse matrices, which are not necessary in this method. Thus, the control problems of linear time-delay systems can be solved much faster and readily.

  • This paper presents a method of calculating a selective number of eigenvalues in power systems, which are rightmost, or are largest modulus. The modified Arnoldi method in conjunction with implicit shift OR-algorithm is used to calculate the rightmost eigenvalues. Algorithm requires neither a prior knowledge of the specified shifts nor the calculation of inverse matrix. The key advantage of the algorithm is its ability to converge to the wanted eigenvalues at once. The method is compared with the modified Arnoldi method combined with S-matrix transformation, where the eigenvalues having the largest modulus are to be determined. The two methods are applied to the reduced Kansai system. Convergence characteristics and performances are compared. Results show that both methods are robust and has good convergence properties. However, the implicit shift OR method is seen to be faster than the S-matrix method under the same condition.

  • In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to find the dimensions of impact stresses with using the dimensions of impact loading parameter regardless of mass of impactor, velocity of impactor, and plate thickness. In analytical method of Impulsive stresses, the three-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity using rectangular coordinates and the potential theory of displacement are utilized, and when the measurement of Impact loading is difficult especially for a steel ball colliding on an infinite plate, the impact loading can be obtained by using the classical plate theory and Hertz’s contact theory. And in the numerical analysis, the fast Fourier transform (F. F. T.) algorithm and the numerical inverse Laplace transformation are used because the analysis of impact loading Is difficult to obtain solutions by using the thress-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity.

  • In this research project two aspects of small signal stability are studied: improvement in Hessenberg method to compute the dominant electromechanical oscillation modes and siting FACTS devices to damp the low frequency oscillation. Fourier transform of transient stability simulation results identifies the frequencies of the dominant oscillation modes accurately. Inverse transformation of the state matrix with complex shift equal to the angular speed determined by Fourier transform enhances the ability of Hessenberg method to compute the dominant modes with good selectivity and small size of Hessenberg matrix. Any specified convergence tolerance is achieved using the iterative scheme of Hessenberg method. Siting FACTS devices such as SVC, STACOM, TCSC, TCPR and UPFC has been studied using the eigen-sensitivity theory of augmented matrix. Application results of the improved Hessenberg method and eigen-sensitivity to New England 10-machine 39-bus and KEPCO systems are presented.

  • This research presented a frequency analysis method to analyze NRRO in a computer hard disk drive. RRO was proved to be the harmonics of rotational frequency. The frequency components of NRRO is the subtraction of the harmonics from TIR in frequency domain, so that NRRO in time domain can be obtained by Fourier inverse transformation of NRRO in frequency domain. This method can make the experiments simple without the index signal indispensable to time domain analysis. This research also shows that NRRO is caused by the defect frequencies of ball bearing. Even though the excitation force of ball bearing is independent of the rotational speed, the amplitude of NRRO is magnified near the resonance frequencies of the spindle motor. NRRO in axial direction is almost twice bigger than that in radial direction, because the spindle motor has smaller stiffness in axial direction.

  • The inverse boundary value problem for the steady state heat equation with convection term is considered in a simply connected bounded domain with smooth boundary. Taking the Dirichlet to Neumann map which maps the temperature on the boundary to the that flux on the boundary as an observation data, the global uniqueness for identifying the convection term from the Dirichlet to Neumann map is proved.

  • This paper presents a control bandwidth extension method for inverters with a low carrier ratio. The bandwidth is extended at the price of decreasing the phase margin. Then the phase margin is compensated by introducing an extra leading angle into an inverse Park transformation. The model of the controller with the proposed method is established. The magnitude and phase characteristics are also analyzed. Then the influence on system stability when the leading angle is introduced is analyzed. The proposed method is applied to design an inverter controller with both a large bandwidth and a desired phase margin, and the experimental results verify that the controller performs well in the steady-state and in terms of transient response.

  • To increase the data capacity of one-dimensional symbology, 2D barcodes have been proposed a decade ago. In this paper, a new 2D barcode detection algorithm based on Local Binary Pattern is presented. To locate 2D barcode symbols, a texture analysis scheme based on the Local Binary Pattern is adopted, and a gray-scale projection with sub-pixel operation is utilized to separate the symbol precisely from the input image. Finally, the segmented symbol is normalized using the inverse perspective transformation for the decoding process. The proposed method ensures high performances under various lighting/printing conditions and strong perspective deformations. Experiments show that our method is very robust and efficient in detecting the symbol area for the various types of 2D barcodes.

  • This study is kinematics for the manipulator development of cucumber harvesting. A theory value was verified by repeated error measurement after the forward kinematics or inverse kinematics analysis of manipulator. Manipulator is consisted of one perpendicular link and two revolution link. The transformation of manipulator can be valued by kinematics using Denavit-Hartenberg parameter. The value of inverse kinematics which is solved by three angles faction shows two types. Repeated errors refered maximum 2.60 mm, 2.05mm and 1.55 mm according to X, Y, Z axis. In this study, the actual coordinates of maximum point and minimum point were agreement in the forward kinematics or inverse kinematics. The results of repeated error measurement were reflect to be smaller compared to a diameter of cucumber. measurement errors were determined by experimented errors during the test. For reducing errors of manipulator and improving work efficiency, the number of link should be reduced and breeding and cultural environment should be considered to reduce the weight and use the hard stuff. The velocity of motor for working should be considered, too.
