The nature of the classroom environment is an important variable to understand when fostering creativity for elementary children. Studies of the classroom climate, structure or interaction commonly depend on behavioral observations or reports from the teacher or other adult-observer. Recent studies have used self-report instruments completed by students regarding their perceptions of various aspects of their class (see Fraser, 1991). The purpose of this study was to determine the developmental differences in the ratings of classroom environment between Korean students who are gifted and their American peers. The My Class Inventory was administered to 141 elementary students in grades three, four, and five. There were 65 Korean students and 76 American students who were identified as gifted by their schools. Reliability coefficients were calculated for all scales (satisfaction = .68: friction, .67; competition = .57; cohesion = .73; difficulty = .22). Results of a multivariate analysis illustrated significant differences between students from Korea and students from America on the MCI. Univariate analysis of variance of cultural group by grade level were conducted for four of the five scales. Significant differences were found by country for the cohesion scale and by country at grade levels for the satisfaction scale. American children expressed greater satisfaction than their Korean counterparts at all grade level, but particularly at grade five. Implications for further research are discussed.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of educational Electronic Nursing Record System in terms of nursing process preparation ability and satisfaction about the system itself. Methods: A one group pre-post experimental study design was utilized in this study. The effectiveness of the system was examined through quality of nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes and electronic nursing record system satisfaction inventory. Junior and senior nursing students were the potential study respondents and evaluation instruments were applied only for the one who agreed to participated in the study. Education about nursing process and electronic nursing record system was carried out as part of regular classes and students were guided to prepare nursing process upon the scenarios developed earlier. Results: 29 juniors and 33 seniors prepare nursing process documentation related to each scenario and both groups showed significant improvement upon nursing process documentation (t=7.53, p<.001, t=3.23, p=.003, respectively) compared to paper based nursing process preparation. Satisfaction about system itself was 2.78(0.81). Conclusion: Educational electronic nursing record system seems to be effective to train nursing students for nursing process preparation ability. Effort to enhance its utility are called in the area of education and system itself.
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence depressive symptoms, and the correlates of depressive symptoms, and to propose countermeasures for individual depression risk factors among college students. Methods: One university and three colleges in Jeju-do were selected as the study population and a total of 1000 students were selected by multiphasic cluster sampling to represent each department and year within each college. Of the 945 total respondents, 421 were men and 524 were women. The Beck Depression Inventory was used to evaluate depression and the BDI STEN score was used to assess depressive symptoms. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed for comparisons. Results: 1. The prevalence of depressive symptoms among men was 14.4%, while among women the level rose to 26.8%. 2. Those with poor life satisfaction scores were significantly more likely to have depressive symptoms than those with good life satisfaction (odds ratio (OR) = 2.62; (95% confidence interval (95%CI), 1.483-4.629). 3. Students over 23 years old were significantly more likely to have low levels of depressive symptoms than those under 18 (OR = 0.439; 95%CI, 0.247-0.779). 4. Groups with poor body image satisfaction had higher levels of depressive symptoms when compared to respondents who had good body image (OR = 2.847; 95%CI, 1.341-6.045). 5. Students with poor perceived health status were significantly more likely to have high levels of depressive symptoms than those with good perceived health status (OR = 2.029; 95%CI, 1.157-3.557). Conclusion: Universities and colleges should provide education programs, such as health education that facilitates the development of a healthy body image. In addition, they should focus on various scholarships that could improve satisfaction with student life, especially for alienated students. Furthermore, colleges should help direct students towards engagement in more productive work, and lead social policies away from the dominance of appearance.

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify nursing students' levels of anxiety in simulation based nursing education and to understand the relationship of anxiety and personal satisfaction of simulation, self-efficacy, and clinical competence during simulation. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with 84 senior nursing students at a private university in South Korea. Level of anxiety was measured with STAI (the State- Trait Anxiety Inventory) prior to the stimulation practice. After the debriefing, satisfaction scores were measured with SSE (Satisfaction with Simulation Experience scale), self-efficacy scores with the modified measurement developed by Roh and Park, and scores for clinical skills with a scale developed by the Korea Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Results: Nursing students exhibited moderate to severe anxiety in simulation practice (Mean 49.51, SD 8.60). Self-efficacy was negatively correlated to anxiety (r=-.25, p=.022). Conclusion: Decreasing students' anxiety levels needs to be addressed to increase the self-efficacy of the simulation practice.

Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship between critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability in nursing students, thereby providing basic data for nursing education. Method: A convenience sample was drawn from 161 nursing students. Data were collected from June 2008 to October 2008. Instruments used in the study were the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI) developed by Facione & Facione (1992) and the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI) developed by Heppner & Petersen (1982). The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS 12.0. Results: The total mean score for CCTDI was 278.41 and PSI was 119.23. For general characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in CCTDI according to satisfaction with nursing majors (F=6.29, p=.00) and PSI according to academic achievement (F=3.45, p=.02) and marital status (t=2.43, p=.02). A statistically significant negative correlation was found between CCTDI and PSI. Critical thinking self-confidence, Analyticity and Inquisitiveness were significant predictors of PSI. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that critical thinking disposition influences problem solving ability. Therefore, the findings provide significant basic data for nursing education and nursing practice.

This study was conducted to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean self-compassion scale using data from 312 correctional workers. To validate the self-compassion scale using the collected data, correlational analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied. To explore relationships between the self-compassion scale and related instruments, five instruments were used (the Korean occupational stress scale, the center for epidemiological studies depression scale, the Maslach burnout inventory scale, perceived stress scale, and the satisfaction with life scale). The results showed that the collected data better fit the 6-factor model than the 3-factor and 2-factor models. There were statistically significant relationships between the self-compassion scale and five other scales. These results suggest that the self-compassion scale is a good instrument to examine risk factors that can remain during continuous stress situations and to explore protective factors that can maintain the therapeutic relationship. The implications of this study and future research directions were also discussed.
This study aimed to investigate major satisfaction and career maturity according to the values of college students majoring in food management and culinary arts. To do this, frequency analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression were conducted and analyzed using SPSS18.0 program. Analysis results indicate that the values of the college students majoring in dining and culinary education have effects on major satisfaction and career maturity. In particular, pragmatic value is a very important factor in increasing major satisfaction and career maturity, and social recognition and curriculum factors are very significant for students to make career decisions. Therefore, in order to enhance college students' major satisfaction and career maturity, it's necessary to teach sound values so that they can build self-esteem value. Also, it's essential to organize subject contents and curriculums in which theory and practice are allocated properly so that students can be interested in their majors and have new experience as well as the community's right recognition for college students majoring in dinning and culinary education and their active interest as the study suggests.
