An operational strategy for inventory control on finished goods in the distribution system has been given attention to many enterprises and many studies regarding this field have been done and is also on-going currently. Many of these studies represented a large scale distribution network with a unified formulation by using defined symbols. These methods have provided the systematic approach of the distribution network but they are impossible to applying the reality system due to not considering the service rate of demand and treating the shortage of inventory. In order to overcome these unrealistic problems, the novel safety stock policy of responding to customers' inventory distribution network is suggested. this paper explores the transportation between Central Distribution Center(CDC) and Regional Distribution Center(RDC). Especially, the relation of transportation cost between CDC and RDC and cost of inventory control according to safety inventory with service level are emphasized. We could obtain the good results of this study by determining the optimal safety stock considering the various variables and constraints.
A logistics system involving a supplier who produces and delivers a single product and a buyer who receives and sells the product to the final customers is analyzed. In this system, the supplier and the buyer establish a contract which specifies that the supplier will deliver necessary amount of the product to raise inventory up to a specified position at the beginning of each period. A new periodic order-up-to-level inventory control policy specifically designed for nonstationary end customer's demand is proposed for the system. Simulations are used to test the efficiency of the proposed policy. An analysis of the test results reveals that the proposed policy performs much better than does the existing order-up-to-level policy, especially when the demand is nonstationary.
This paper considers a firm that operates make-to-stock and make-to-order facilities in successive stages. The make-to-stock facility produces components which are consumed by the external market demand as well as the internal make-to-order operation. The make-to-order facility processes customer orders with the option of acceptance or rejection. In this paper, we address the problem of coordinating how to allocate the capacity of the make-to-stock facility to internal and external demands and how to control incoming customer orders at the make-to-order facility so as to maximize the firm's profit subject to the system costs. To deal with this issue, we formulate the problem as a Markov decision process and characterize the structure of the optimal inventory allocation and customer order control. In a numerical experiment, we compare the performance of the optimal policy to the heuristic with static inventory allocation and admission control under different operating conditions of the system.
Supply chain management is defined as "an integrative philosophy to manage the total flow of a distribution channel from the supplier to the ultimate user". There are many differences between traditional systems and supply chain management systems, There are so many advantages applying SCM concept in inventory management field from the viewpoint of information sharing. While each firm try to optimize the inventory individually in traditional systems, SCM focus on optimizing the channel-wide-inventory making effort to reduce the inventory interrelatedly, The more complex your network of suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors, the more you are likely to gain operational efficiencies by attending on inventory management. The inventory stockpiles at the various sites, including both incoming materials and finished products, have complex interrelationships. Efficient and effective management of inventory throughout the supply chain significantly improves the ultimate service provided to the customer. The purpose of this thesis is to develop the integrated inventory management system for the control of channel-wide inventory on the intranet by applying SCM concept.
The construction of the transportation history database system is to serve the scheduling and seat inventory controling. Recently, lots of countries have been faced with the advance era because of the new railway transportation system, like the high speed railway and/or magnetic levitation vehicle system. This can be reasonably translated as those of operators are willing to provide the more various and high quality schedule to the customer. Those operators' these ideas make possible to forecast that scheduling process is going to be complicated more and more The seat inventory control, so to speak Yield Management System(YMS), goes a long way to improve the total passenger revenue at the railway business. The YMS forecasts the number of the last reservation value(DCP# END) and recommends the optimal values on the seat sales. The history database system contains infra-data(ie, train, seat, sales) that will be the foundation of scheduling and seat inventory control application programs. The development of the application programs are reserved to the next step. The database system is installed on the pc platform(IBM compatible), using the DB2(RDBMS). And at next step, the platform and DBMS will be considered whether they can meet the users' requirement or not.
In this paper, we introduced a POS(Point of Sale) system for a wallpaper company. We designed the database schema for the POS system, and proposed various application areas of the POS system. Especially, we discussed such application areas as inventory control, marketing, product development, and distribution channel. The quality of product management is enhanced by precise ABC inventory control and safety stock control. Marketing strategies can be more precisely established, and their effects can be measured. The development time can be shortened and new products can be developed based on the real market demands. Distributors can improve their management quality using precise sales data.
This study considers warehouse sizing decisions in an integrated single vendor-single buyer production inventory system by incorporating new decision variables and constraints associated with warehouse size into the formulations. Two typical inventory control policies proposed in the literature (i.e., Identical Delivery Quantity and Deliver What is Produced) have been investigated with consideration of warehouse investment costs. The numerical study shows that Deliver What is Produced is less flexible than Identical Delivery Quantity, resulting in the conclusion that the latter would be preferable when considering warehouse investment costs.
This paper presents the parallel-type inventory structure using an order-up-to level inventory control system for analyzing the approximation of the expected units backordered and the measure of service. The rate of total expected backorders which is the measure of disservise, is given by dividing the improved units of total expected backorder into the total demand during an order cycle. the average annual total cost in system is obtained by considering the results. Total backorder model for the system without redistribution and the system with redistribution is described.
In many inventory situations, items for sales are generally stocked in a multiple of variations called stockkeeping units, such as size, color, style, and so on. For better management performance on sales items, proper and effective management is necessary for the stockkeeping units. In dealing with many items and those stockkeeping units, individual inventory analysis for each stockkeeping unit needs large amount of time or cost. Also the individual approach in inventory planning increases the demand variation of an item as the result by combining of demand variations of all stockkeeping units, accordingly the inventory turnover ratio and profitability are dropped down. This research suggests an effective method of systematic control of total stockkeeping units by generating from the total item basis, and shows how to reduce the safety stock and the average inventory with attaining a planned customer fill rate of the item and each stockkeeping units.
In many industries, the accurate and quick checking of goods in storage is of great importance. Most today's inventory checking is based on bar code scanning, but the relative position between a bar code and an optical scanner should be maintained in close distance and proper angle for the successful scanning. This requirement makes it difficult to fully automate the inventory information/control systems. The use of RFID technology can be a solution for overcoming this problem. The mobile robot presented in this paper is equipped with an RFID tag scanning system, that automates the otherwise manual or semi-automatic inventory checking process. We designed the robot system in a quite practical approach, and the developed system is close to the commercialization stage. In our experiments, the robot could collect information of goods stacked on shelves autonomously without any failure and maintain corresponding database while it navigated predefined paths between the shelves using vision.
