  • One of the interoperability management activity in Korean military is interoperability level assessment. The concept of interoperability levels causes the assessed result to be uncertain and unreliable, despite the activity contributes to secure interoperability requirements of systems consistently. In this paper, I suggest Korea Interoperability Management(KIM) model which is independent of interoperability levels especially specified in LISI model, in order to support more practical and reliable interoperability management.

  • Recently, the LISI(Level of Information System Interoperability) model has been used to measure level of interoperability in the Ministry of National Defense. This study is proposed for improvement of interoperability level measurement method. The MND has been devoting a lot of effort to ensure defense weapon system interoperability. They enacted related regulations and developed SITES for measuring the level of interoperability. However, the LISI model has problems with using just only DITA and applying MND-AF based on Architecture development. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes how to apply reference model to LISI Model and how to apply LISI Model to MND-AF architecture development.

  • In the modern warfield, as the defense systems has been digitalized, intelligent, and working with network, the importance of interoperability among the systems has been also increasing. KMND(Korean Ministry of National Defense) has developed and used the SITES(Systems Interoperability Test & Evaluation System) based on Korean LISI(Levels of Information Systems Interoperability). SITES had been developed in order to evaluate the interoperability among information systems from the viewpoint of technical attributes. In this paper, we propose the extended interoperability evaluation model which can be applied not only the information systems, but also the weapon systems. Moreover, the extended interoperability evaluation model also includes the consideration of non-technical attributes.

  • There are many demands for interoperability between weapon systems as the operational needs for joint and coalition based on network in modern and future warfare have been increasingly needed. In DoD, LISI has been applied throughout information system life cycle from the planning phase to the development phase to assess the level of interoperability. We also developed SITES which is a tool to assess the level of interoperability in information systems. But we should extend the assessment model from the previous information systems to the weapon systems to assess the level of interoperability including weapon systems as well as information systems. In this paper, we proposed the assessment model of interoperability, implemented the E-SITE based on the proposed model, applied 12 weapon systems and analyzed the experimental result.

  • This paper analyzes the limitations and provides alternative options for Korean Military LISI model, which is based on interoperability assessment model, LISI(Level of Information System Interoperability), developed for US defense information systems and reformed to suit the Korean Military environment by ADD. Korean Military's LIST model is applied to all systems(information system, weapon systems, non-weapon systems)' interoperability assessment defined in acquisition regulations by Joint Interoperability Test Center, a subordinate unit of Defense Command and Control Forces and the only assessment agency of defense interoperability. LISI was basically developed as an assessment model for information system's interoperability, but due to it's shortfall in assessing complex systems including information systems, weapon and non-weapon systems required from New environment SOSI(System of Systems Interoperability) has recently been researched and developed. On the other hand, it is inevitable that Korean Military's LISI model face fundamental limitations as an interoperability assessment tool for Defense Information System as well as for weapon and non-weapon systems, since it was benchmarked and reformed from the US LISI model. In order to overcome such limitations, MND and associated agencies are providing improvement methods through studies. This paper will provide LISI capability model's assessment criteria on Application(P), Infrastructure(I), Data(D), restraints of on comparison assessment process of unit systems evaluated and politic alternatives to overcome the restraints.

  • In Korean military measuring systems interoperability is based on LISI (Level of Information System Interoperability) model at the requirement generation and acquisition process. However, LISI model cannot be used for interoperability measurement of system of systems (SoS) because LISI model is focused on interoperability measurement of a given system or system pair. Also, LISI model cannot provide quantitative information for interoperability decision because of qualitative rather than quantitative approach. This paper proposes a quantitative interoperability measurement methodology of SoS. At the proposed methodology, mission threads and supporting systems are identified using architecture approach, and Interoperability of SoS is measured with systems multiplicity and resemblance coefficient. Finally, a case study is presented to show the usefulness of the methodology.

  • Information sharing is the main purpose of realizing interoperability between the application domains of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). This paper presents and describes the workflow of BIM-GIS interoperability for highway traffic information sharing. An innovative and automatic Dynamo process was presented to transfer the shapes and attributes of the shapefile from GIS to BIM. On the basis of the transformed BIM model, the detailed traffic data was added and expressed in the form of families and sheets to expand traffic information. Then, the shapes of the model were swept as solid geometries in the BIM environment applying Dynamo. The expanded BIM model was transferred back to the GIS system using the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) scheme. The mutual communication between BIM and GIS was achieved based on Dynamo and IFC. This paper provides a convenient and feasible way to realize BIM-GIS interoperability for highway traffic information sharing according to the characteristics of highways in terms of graphic expression and model creation.

  • The purpose of the present study is to suggest the extern BIM reference model for interoperability between BIM and GIS. After we surveyed the research progress and usecases related to the interoperability to do this, we analyzed the architecture of the neutral model such as IFC, CityGML to identify the differences between these and expand CityGML model. By using this result, we proposed the external BIM reference model including the metadata which defines mapping rules from IFC to CityGML.

  • The purpose of the present study is to suggest the strategy for interoperability between BIM and GIS. For this, we analyzed the interoperability issue including the neutral information model such as CityGML, LandXML, IFC and identified the structure differences as the viewpoint of use-case, object, geometry, property by using UML(Unified Modeling Langauge) and reverse engineering. To solve the interoperability problem between BIM and GIS model which is the neutral GIS format, We proposed the consideration including converter, information mapping filter based on ontology dictionary, automation by using API.

  • In this paper we describe interoperability maturity measurement, due to highlight a momentous issue on interoperability between heterogeneous distributed component based systems. it also suggests one of various ways for supporting interoperability between each other different component based systems, that is, using web services based mechanism and also revises 'LISI (Level of information systems interoperability)' model to measure interoperability maturity. We also develop the interoperability questionnaire based on the interoperability factors considered at each phase of component based development process, which is possible to measure interoperability maturity between heterogeneous distributed component systems. Based on revised interoperability maturity model and questionnaire we measure each interoperability maturity on examples of two different implementations, that is, web services and distributed object based mechanism. As a result, we suggest an enhanced interoperability way based on analysing problems af these measured results.
