Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the current situation of Internet health counseling in Korean Medicine by analyzing the contents and pattern of the questions and answers in NAVER Jisik-iN. Methods : 1,121 questions answered by Korean Medicine doctors in NAVER Jisik-iN from January 2012 to June 2012 were extracted and analyzed. The contents and pattern of the questions and answers were classified. Then statistical analysis was performed and the research findings were compared with other studies. Results : Korean Medicine (KM) accounted for 1.73 percent of health counseling in NAVER Jisik-iN. Analyzing the questions and answers of KM counseling, questions about symptoms and answers providing medical knowledge were most common. The most frequently asked symptom was digestive disorder. Applying to Suchman's "Stage of Illness and Medical Care" model, 'the symptom-experience' stage took the first place. Conclusions : KM counseling in NAVER Jisik-iN has served as guidance for potential Korean Medicine consumers by providing medical knowledge about symptoms. For more effective guidance there should be a systematic Internet counseling system offering reliable information by KM doctors to meet the needs of medical consumers.

Recently with the development in computer technology and its communication system, many changes in medical informatics enable us to use various medical information regardless of time or place. There are many home pages on the web, which provide medical counseling and hospital information. On May 11th 1999, Korean Rheumatology Health Professions Society began its new service as a home page on the web with various rheumatologic health information, questioning/ answering, and so on. This study was undertaken to examine the content and the purpose of health counseling on the web. The data was collected from 173 questioners who visited questioning/ answering site in the KRHPS home page for May 11th, 1999 through November 10th, 1999. Most of the questioners consulted the health problems of their or their families. Over two thirds of them were already diagnosed medically. Rheumatoid arthritis was the most frequent one. Other diseases, such as, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Still's disease were also on the list. Most of the questioners wanted to know treatment strategies, to consult about their symptoms, and to make diagnosis. And many questioners wanted detailed explanations about their diseases or the informations regarding the hospital. These findings suggest that the health counseling on the web may be used to supplement the lack of direct medical interviews with doctors. It also is expected to guide the patients to the right direction.

With the increased use of computers in medical fields, we can consider introducing computer mediated communication into the area of patient care such as medical or health counseling and education. But little was known about what problems can be counseled, what is the main direction of counseling, and what difficulties are met during the computer mediated counseling. So I conducted this study. This is a fundamental study concerning the health counseling by the inter-net. In this study, medical counseling using a method of questioning -answering through a computer mediated communication system was carried out from June 1998 to May 1999. I analyzed the contents of questions and answers by the ICPC classification. The ICPC classification emerged as a standard for information categorization in Primary Health Care within a few years. One of the most prominent features of this classification is the inclusion of the complaints of the patients (symptoms & complaints) and the social problems (Chapter Z). Thus, and for the first time, the demand of patients may be assessed such as it is expressed in the reality. The ICPC list is now an international standard whose validity is not questioned any more. It is translated in more than twenty different languages. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistical method, c2 test by cross tabulations. Followings are the results of this study. 1. The 3,054 users composed of 64% of males and 36% of females. The highest number of users was showed in the age group of $25{\sim}29$ (39.4%). 2. During the one-year period, the average number of counseling per user was 2.5 cases and per day was 21.1 cases. 3. In classifying symptoms and complaints by 17 chapter, digestive(17.6%), general and unspecified (12.7%), skin(12.7%) and musculoskeletal system (9.6%) were most common questions. 4. The distribution of diagnosis by 17 chapter, general and unspecified (21.4%), digestive (15.3%), skin (11.9%) and mus- culoskeletal system (8.9%) were most common answers. 5. Many users wanted to know symptoms and complaints(3,609 cases), treatment principles (2,928 cases), prognosis and preventive methods for health problems which were previously diagnosed (284 cases).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the data regarding questions raised by women with breast cancer through Internet counseling in Korea. Methods: The data were collected from one internet web-site, providing counseling by physicians. A total of 617 questions were analyzed by content analysis method. Results: About 90 percent of the counselees were patients themselves. But most of the general and health-related characteristics of them were not known from the data. As a result of content analysis, 617 questions were grouped into 9 major categories. The most common major category was identified as "life after treatment" (212 questions, 34.2%), followed by "chemotherapy" (139 questions, 22.3%) and "hormone therapy" (115 questions, 18.9%). Questions regarding "physical symptoms" were the most frequent one in the major categories of "life after treatment", "chemotherapy", and "radiotherapy", while questions regarding "psychological problems" were the least. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that it is important for health professionals to provide continuous on-line informational support to women with breast cancer, even after all the treatment is over, especially focusing on physical symptoms. In addition, off-line program needs to be reinforced to provide emotional support that is not well delivered by on-line program.
