Pulmonary artery aneurysm is Behcet`s disease is rare and can be fatal due to rupture. We experienced a case of pulmonary artery aneurysm in Behcet`s disease. The patient was 21 year old woman who was adimitted with three month history of dyspnea, fever and cough. On examination, she had aphthous ulcer in the mouth and erythema nodosum on the left popletial fossa and forearm, but didn`t have any lesion at eyes and genitalia. The latex fixation test for rheumatoid factor, VDRL test for syphillis, antinuclear antibody and LE cell test were all negatives. The third and fourth components of complement in the serum, serum immunoglobulin concentrations[IgG, IgM, IgA] were within normal range. The chest radiography revealed a 5x6cm sized radiopaque mass density in the left hilar region. Two months later, the mass was enlarged to 6x7cm. The IV-DSA showed a single aneurysm at the proximal part of left lower lobe artery with lingular segment artery and no distal perfusion by thombotic obstruction. The steroid therapy was done for a month, but symptoms not improved. We performed resection of lingular segment and lower lobe including the aneurysm. The microscopic findings of the operative specimen were intimal hyperplasia and fragmentation of the internal elastic fibers. She was improved without remarkable event, except infection of the operative wound.
The oxidation of $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$ nanocrystalline powder has been conducted to investigate its influence on the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics of the soft magnetic material. Oxidation occurred primarily on the surface of nanocrystals. Oxidation reduced the real part of complex permeability due to the reduction of the relative volume of the powder, which otherwise contributes to the permeability. Oxidation reduced the absorption efficiency of the sheet at frequencies over 1GHz, indicating that the relative contribution of skin depth increments to the absorption was not significant. The pulverization and milling process lowered the optimum crystallization temperature of the material by $40{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ because of the internal energy accumulated during the fragmentation and powder thinning processes.
Penetrating neck trauma by gunshot injury involving tracheobronchial tree is rare in Korea. Extensive tissue damage by cavitation, tissue fragmentation and shock wave transmission of high-velocity projectile along with associated organ injury renders high rate of mortality and morbidity. A 28 year old man in military service with gunshot wound in left cervical area presented initial symptoms of severe dyspnea and subcutaneous emphysema. Computed tomography of chest and cervical region as well as bronchoscopic evaluation was performed to confirm highly suspected injury to cervical trachea. Surgical exposure was established through a low collar incision; the damaged segment of 3.5 cm length including 2-4th tracheal rings was resected out and end-to-end anastomosis was performed. Bleeding from lacerated anterior jugular vein was controlled by ligation of both ends and a K2 bulllet was found upon inner border of body of first rib, medial to right carotid sheath and removed out. Cervical esophagus, carotid artery, internal jugular vein and recurrent laryngeal nerve were spared. Extubation was done on the first postoperative day and postoperative course until discharge on nineth postoperative day remained uneventful.
Objectives: The objective of this study is Korean mistletoe lectin (Viscum album coloratum agglutinin, VCA) and bee venom (BV) to experimental prove comparative study of VCA and BV on the anti-cancer effect and mechanisms of action. Methods: In this study, it was examined in a human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, Hep G2 cells. Cytotoxic effects of VCA and BV on Hep G2 cells were determined by 3- (4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay in vitro. VCA and BV killed Hep G2 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Results: The apoptotic cell death was then confirmed by propidium iodide staining and DNA fragmentation analysis. The mechanisms of action was examined by the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases. Treatment of Hep G2 cells with VCA activated poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) known as a marker of apoptosis, and mitogen-activated protein kinases signaling pathways including SAPK/JNK, MAPK and p38. BV also activated PARP-1, MAPK, p38 but not JNK. The expression level of anti-apoptotic molecule, Bcl-X, was decreased by VCA treatment but not BV. Finally, the phosphorylation level of ERM proteins involved in the cytoskeleton homeostasis was decreased by both stimuli. Conclusion: We examined the involvement of kinase in VCA or BV - induced apoptosis by using kinase inhibitors. VCA-induced apoptosis was partially inhibited by in the presence.

Objectives : The water extract of Samul-tang (SMT) has traditionally been used for treatment of ischemic heart and brain damage in oriental medicine. However, little is known about the mechanism by which the water extract of SMT rescues cells from these damages. Methods: This study was designed to investigate the protective mechanisms of SMT on oxidative stress-induced toxicity in H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells. Treatment with $H_2O_2$ markedly induced death of H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells in a dose-dependent manner. Results: The characteristics of H20z-induced death of H9c2 showed apparent apoptotic features such as DNA fragmentation and morphological change. However, SMT significantly reduced both H202-induced cell death and morphological change. The decrease of Bc-2 expression by High were inhibited by SMT. In addition, the increase of Bax expression was also inhibited by SMT. The cotreatment of SMT and $H_2O_2$ in H9c2 cells also induced the phosphorylation of ERK in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, PD98059, a specific inhibitor of ERK1/2 attenuated the protective effects of SMT on $H_2O_2-induced$ toxicity in H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells. These results suggest that both ERK1/2 signaling pathways play important roles in the protective effects of SMT on $H_2O_2-induced$ apoptotic death of H9c2 cells. Also, the expression profile of proteins in $H_2O_2$ cardiomyoblast cells were screened by using two-dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis. Among 300 spots resolved in 2-D gels, the comparison of control versus apoptosis cells revealed that signal intensity of 17 spots increased and 11 spots decreased. Conclusions: Taken together, this study suggests that the protectiw effects of the water extract of SMT against oxidative damages may be mediated by the modulation of Bc1-2 and Bax expression via the regulation of the ERK signaling pathway.
Background : Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) are useful in chemoprevention of colorectal cancers. Continuous NSAID administation causes 40% to 50% reduction in relative risk for colorectal cancer. Sulindac possesses an antiproliferative effect and induces apoptosis and tumor regression on colon cancer and other types of cancers. We intended to analyze the effects of sulindac in three non-small cell lung cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods : The human lung cancer cell lines, A549, NCI-H157 and NCI-H460 were used for this study. Viability was tested by MTT assay, and cell death rate was measured by lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) release. Apoptosis was estimated by flow cytometric analysis and nuclear staining. Results: Sulindac was able to decrease the viability of non-small cell lung cancer cells in a dose- and time- dependent manner. In a parallel effect of sulindac on cell death rate, LDH release was increased in sulindac-treated lung cancer cells. Sulindac significantly increased apoptosis characterized by an increase of $sub-G_0/G_1$ fraction and morphological change of nuclei. The rate of apoptotic cells after sulindac treatment in lung cancer cells increased in a time- and dose- dependent manner in flow cytometric analysis. Apoptotic cells were defined as nuclear shrinkage, chromatin condensation and nuclear fragmentation of cells. Conclusion : Sulindac decreases viability and induces the apoptosis of lung cancer cells. Further studies will be needed to elucidate the potential mechanism of sulindac-induced apoptosis in lung cancer cells.
Background: Most lung cancer patients receive systemic chemotherapy at an advanced stage disease. Cisplatin-based chemotherapy is the main regimen for treating advanced lung cancer. Recently, autophagy has become an important mechanism of cellular adaptation under starvation or cell oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not autophagy can occurred in cisplatin-treated lung cancer cells. Methods: H460 cells were incubated with RPMI 1640 and treated in $5{\mu}M$ or $20{\mu}M$ cisplatin concentrations at specific time intervals. Cells surviving cisplatin treatment were measured and compared using an MTT cell viability assay to cells that underwent apoptosis with autophagy by nuclear staining, apoptotic or autophagic related proteins, and autophagic vacuoles. The development of acidic vascular organelles was using acridine orange staining and fluorescent expression of GFP-LC3 protein in its transfected cells was observed to evaluate autophagy. Results: Lung cancer cells treated with $5{\mu}M$ cisplatin-treated were less sensitive to cell death than $20{\mu}M$ cisplatin-treated cells in a time-dependent manner. Nuclear fragmentation at $5{\mu}M$ was not detected, even though it was discovered at $20{\mu}M$. Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase cleavages were not detected in $5{\mu}M$ within 24 hours. Massive vacuolization in the cytoplasm of $5{\mu}M$ treated cells were observed. Acridine orange stain-positive cells was increased according in time-dependence manner. The autophagosome-incorporated LC3 II protein expression was increased in $5{\mu}M$ treated cells, but was not detected in $20{\mu}M$ treated cells. The expression of GFP-LC3 were increased in $5{\mu}M$ treated cells in a time-dependent manner. Conclusion: The induction of autophagy occurred in $5{\mu}M$ dose of cisplatin-treated lung cancer cells.
15P/Finlay is one of the Jupiter-Family Comets that has long been known since the late 19 century. The comet maintains the perihelion around 1.0 AU over a century, without showing any prominent activities (i.e. fragmentation or eruption) since the discovery. According to reports in unpublished observations, the comet exhibited an outburst in the middle of 2014 December. We conducted a imaging observation of 15P/Finlay just after the report, from 2014 December 23 to 2015 February 18 using three telescopes (the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory 50-cm telescope, the Ishigakijima Astronomical Observatory 105-cm telescope, and the Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory 2-m telescope), which constitute a portion of the OISTER (an inter-university observation network in the optical and infrared wavelengths). As a result of the frequent observations, we witnesses the second outburst around UT 2015 January 16. Such cometary outbursts draw the attention to researchers on ground that they could offer insight into the internal structure of comets, following a historical outburst occurred at 17P/Holmes on 2007 October 23. Although cometary outbursts have been often reported mostly in unpublished observations or unreviewed reports, it should be emphasized that there are not a sufficient number of astrophysical research which characterizes the physical properties by observing the aftermaths. This presentation provides a new observational result of 15P/Finlay outburst. Based on the morphological development of the dust cloud as well as the near-nuclear magnitude, we will derive the kinetic energy of the outburst. Finally we plan to compare the results of 15P/Finlay with those of analogical events at 17P/Holmes and P/2010 V1 (Ikeya-Murakami).

The water extract of Sopung-tang(SPT) has been traditionally used for treatment of psycologic disease and brain damage in oriental medicine. However, little is known about the mechanism by which the water extract of SPT rescues cells from these disease. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the effect of SPT on the glutamate-induced toxicity of rat C6 glial cells. SPT have protective effects in glutamate-induced toxicity, which was revealed as apoptosis characterized by chromatic condensation and fragmentation and the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential in C6 glial cells. Also, SPT have inhibited the active form of caspase-3 and PARP and significantly protected the apoptotic phenomena by glutamate toxicity in C6 glial cells. However, SPT significantly recovered the depletion of GSH and inhibited the generation of ROS by glutamate in C6 glial cells. In addition, both SPT and antioxidants such as GSH and NAC protected the glutamate-induced cytotoxicity in C6 glial cells, indicating that SPT possibly have antioxidative effect. Specially, SPT were showed transcriptional factor significantly increased the activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ using the analysis of NF-${\kappa}B$ luciferase reporter system in C6 glial cells. These NF-${\kappa}B$ activation protected cells from glutamate-induced toxicity to generate the heme oxygenase-1(HO-1). Taken together, we suggest that SPT have protective effects in glutamate-induced toxicity via a antioxidative mechanism.
The NAND flash memory based SSDs are considered to replace the existing HDDs. To maximize the I/O performance, SSD is composed of several NAND flash memories in parallel. However, to adopt the hybrid mapping scheme in SSD may cause degradation of the I/O performance. In this paper, we propose a new mapping scheme for the SSD called WADPM. WADPM loads only necessary mapping information into RAM and dynamically adjusts the size of mapping information in the RAM. So, WADPM avoids the shortcoming of page-level mapping scheme that requires too large mapping table. Performance evaluation using simulations shows that I/O performance of WADPM is 3.5 times better than the hybrid-mapping scheme and maximum size of mapping table of WADPM is about 50% in comparison with the page-level mapping scheme.
