Power cable of an AC arc welder can surround a body of worker at the moment of welding. Applying the boundary element method, we calculated current densities induced in organs inside a worker in case he weared a multi-layer shielding cloth. We know these were lowest when high permeability materials such as silicon and permalloy were applied to the interior of a suit and high conductivity materials such as copper were to the exterior.

Longitudinal strains({$varepsilon}_x$) of the core and skin layers in glass fiber reinforced plastic(GFRP) cross-ply composite laminates have been studied using the embedded optical fiber sensor of totally-reflected extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer(TR-EFPI). Foil-type strain gauges bonded on both the upper and lower surfaces were used for the measurement of the surface strains. Both TR-EFPI sensor and strain gauge bonded on the specimen surface showed excellent agreement within -0.0086 ~ +0.0302% strain. It was shown that values of {$varepsilon}_x$ in the interior of the surface layer and the core layer measured by embedded TR-EFPI sensor was significantly higher than that of the specimen surface measured by strain gauges. The experimental results were ascertained with finite element analysis. Embedded TR-EFPI optical fiber sensor could measure accurately the internal strains which were different from the surface.
A numerical investigation is made of three-dimensional buoyant convection of a Boussinesq-fluid in a vertical cylinder. The top and bottom endwalls are thermally insulated. Flow is driven by the substantial azimuthal variations in thermal boundary conditions. Comprehensive numerical solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations are obtained. The representative Rayleigh number is large, thus, the overall flow pattern is of boundary layer-type. Three-dimensional (low characteristics are described. Specially, the global flow and the heat transfer features are delineated when the severity of azimuthal variation of sidewall temperature n, is intensified. Temperature and velocity fields on the meridional planes and the planes of constant height are presented. The global flow weakens as n becomes large. The pattern of the local Nusselt number on the surface of cylinder is similar regardless of n. The convective gain in heat transfer activities is reduced as n increases.

Sunroof is getting widely used in automobiles since it maintains, compare to window, better air circulation as well as less noise while driving in high speed. In this study, we consider an electronic control type spoiler sunroof which slides backward after tilting a rear part of a glass. Installing a wind deflector on the sunroof reduces noise much more effectively. The height of the wind deflector is designed using a boundary theory related to incompressible air layer. The developed wind deflector is investigated experimentally by measuring a wind noise. When the height of the wind deflector is designed by a fixed type, the sunroof maintains a very quiet interior noise over a certain driving speed, nevertheless it produces relatively loud noise in low driving speed.

In general, a design method based on the equivalent magnetic circuit has been used for basic design of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM). However, the equivalent magnetic circuit method has difficulty in considering the arrangement of PM. IPMSM has high degree of freedom for PM rotor design. In this paper, we proposed the multiobjective optimal design method considering the arrangement of PM for the double-layer PM rotor structure that minimizes the torque ripple as well as maximizes the torque of IPMSM. The design variables of double-layer PM rotor structure are obtained from the Response Surface Method. Torque and torque ripple were calculated by Finite Element Method.
The present paper investigates the simultaneous resonance behavior of spiral stiffened multilayer functionally graded (SSMFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under the two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness. The cylindrical shell has three layers consist of ceramic, FGM, and metal. The exterior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich ceramic while the interior layer is rich metal and the functionally graded material layer is located between these layers. With regard to classical shells theory, von-Kármán equation, and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The simultaneous resonance is obtained using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of different material and geometrical parameters on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.
Oceanic temperature inversions, with unstable stratifications, are frequently founed in the surface layer of a few tens meters in the Japan Sea and the Yellow Sea in Winter. Mechanisms responsible for the generation of temperature inversions include the followings: (1) The nat heat loss at the sea suface requires an upward transport of heat from the interior of the ocean y convection, and this convection leads to the temperature inversions. (2) The downward propagation of the annual variation of the sea surface timperature, with an exponential decrease of amplitude and a linear change of phase with depth, generates the surface inversion layer in winter. (3) The cold water cdvection by Ekman drift, of which magnitude decreases exponentially with depth, generates temperature inversions for the three possible mechanisms mentioned above.

It has been known that the ferritic stainless steel can be changed to martensitic stainless steel when nitrogen is added. However the high hardness of martensitic stainless steel prevents the plastic deformation. In this study, instead of martensite, the surface microstructure was changed into nitrogen pearlite to increase the plastic deformation easily by isothermal heat treatment after high temperature gas nitriding (HTGN) the AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel. The isothermal treatment was carried out at $780^{\circ}C$ for 4, 6, and 10 hrs, respectively, after HTGN treatment at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. The surface layer of isothermal-treated steel appeared nitrogen pearlite composed with fine chromium nitride and ferrite. Hence, the interior region that was not affected by nitrogen permeation exhibited ferrite phase. When quenching the isothermal treated steel at 1100oC, martensitic phase formed at the surface layer. The hardness of surface layer of isothermal-treated steel and quenched steel measured the value of 150~240 Hv and 630 Hv, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the standard models for rural housing and wooden housing model have performance for hygrothermal and to propose a way of improvement relevant to hygrothermal performance for those models. All of the models to be analyzed were found to have some parts that were absent of stability in terms of performance for hygrothermal. In the process of analyzing the causes and proposing improvement measures, the following conclusions were derived. Fist, The exterior surface of the structure should be composed of a structure with good moisture permeability, and for the interior surface, a variable vapor retarder paper should be applied in consideration of the reverse condensation phenomenon in summer. Second, in terms of performance for hygrothermal, applications of external insulation plaster finish to the exterior wall or of ventilation method using a rafter vent on the roof should be avoided. Third, a rain screen method with a ventilation layer should be applied to the exterior wall, and a method of constructing ventilation layer separated from the insulation layer with a vapor retarder paper should be applied to the roof. Fourth, the application of insulation materials having capillary action, such as wood fiber insulation board or cellulose insulation board, contributes to more stable performance for hygrothermal.
This study has investigated the surface phase change, hardness variation, surface precipitates, nitrogen content and corrosion resistance in STS 431 (17Cr-2Ni-0.2C-0.01Nb) martensitic stainless steel after high temperature gas nitriding (HTGN) treatment at the temperature range between $1050^{\circ}C$ and $1150^{\circ}C$. The HTGN-treated surface layer appeared $Cr_2N$ of rod type, carbo-nitride of round type and fine precipitates in the austenite matrix. On the other hand the interior region where the nitrogen was not permeated, exhibited martensite phase. The surface hardness showed 250~590 HV, depending on the HTGN treatment conditions, while the interior martensitic phase represented 520 HV. The permeation depth of nitrogen increased with increasing the HTGN-treated temperature. The nitrogen concentration of the surface layer appeared approximately ~0.17% at $1100^{\circ}C$. On comparing the corrosion resistance between solution-annealed and HTGN-treated steels, the corrosion resistance of HTGN-treated steel was superior to that of solution-annealed specimens.
