  • G $d_{0.2}$C $e_{0.8}$ $O_{1.9}$(CGO) for electrolyte and L $a_{0.5}$S $r_{0.5}$Mn $O_3$(LSM50) for cathode in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells(SOFC) were synthesized by citrate process. Specimens were prepared with sintering temperatures at 110$0^{\circ}C$, 120$0^{\circ}C$ and 130$0^{\circ}C$, which were fabricated by slurry coating with citric acid contents. Interfacial resistance was measured between cathode and electrolyte using AC-impedance analyzer. With various citric acid content, the degree of agglomeration for the initial particles changed. Also sintering temperature changed the particle size and the degree of densification of cathode. Factors affecting the interfacial resistance were adherent degree of the electrolyte and cathode, distribution of TPB(three phase boundaries, TPB i.e., electrolyte/electrode/gas phase area) and porosity of cathode. By increasing the sintering temperature, particle size and densification of the cathode were increased. And then, TPB area which occurs catalytic reaction was reduced and so interfacial resistance was increased.sed.sed.d.

  • Various characteristics of a thin liquid film in its vapor-phase are investigated using the molecular dynamics technique. Local distributions of the temperature, density, normal and tangential pressure components, and stress are calculated for various film thicknesses and temperature levels. Distributions of local stresses change considerably with respect to film thicknesses, and interracial regions on both sides of the film start to overlap with each other as the film becomes thinner. Integration of the local stresses, i.e., the surface tension, however, does not vary much regardless of the interfacial overlap. The minimum thickness of a liquid film before rupturing is estimated with respect to the calculation domain sizes and is compared with a simple theoretical relation.

  • In this work, the effect of catalysts on the mechanical properties of carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites cured by cationic latent thermal catalysts, i.e., N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH) was studied. Differential scanning calorimetry was executed for thermal characterization of the epoxy matrix system. Mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied by interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$), and specific fracture energy ($G_{IC}$). As a result, the conversion of neat epoxy matrix cured by BPH was higher than that of one cured by diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM). The ILSS, $K_{IC}$, $G_{IC}$, and impact strength of the composites cured by BPH were also superior to those of the composites cured by DDM. This was probably the consequence of the effect of the substituted benzene group of BPH catalyst, resulting in an increase in the cross-link density and structural stability of the composites studied.

  • Fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites are widely used to provide protection against ballistic impact and blast events. There are several factors that govern the structural response and mechanical properties of a textile composite structure, of which the fiber-matrix interfacial behavior is a crucial determinant. This paper reviews the microbond or microdroplet test methodology that is used to characterize the fiber-matrix interfacial behavior, particularly the interface shear strength (IFSS). The various analytical, experimental, and numerical approaches applied to the microbond test are reviewed in detail.

  • A modified direct bonding technique employing a wet chemical deposition of $SiO_2$ film on a wafer surface to be bonded is proposed for the fabrication of Si-$SiO_2$-Si structures. Structural and electrical quality of the bonded wafers is studied. Satisfied insulating properties of interfacial $SiO_2$ layers are demonstrated. Elastic strain caused by surface morphology is investigated. The diminution of strain in the grooved structures is semi-quantitatively interpreted by a model considering the virtual defects distributed over the interfacial region.

  • A biosurfactant produced by Tsukamurella sp. 26A was purified by procedures including acid precipitation, ethylacetate extraction, and adsorption chromatography. The purified biosurfactant reduced the surface tension of water from 72 mN/m to 30 mN/m at a concentration of 250 mg/l, whereas the minimum interfacial tension against n-hexadecane was lowered to 1.5 mN/m at a concentration of 40 mg/i. The compound stabilized oil-in-water emulsions with a variety of commercial oils and had strong emulsification and stabilization activities when compared to those of commercial emulsifiers and stabilizers. Surface tension was stable over a broad range of pH (2-12) and temperature ($100^{\circ}C$, 3h). The biosurfactant was identified as glycolipid having a hydrophilic moiety of trehalose.

  • In order to investigate the interfacial effects on the aging of power cables, we analyzed recently failed cables using characterization techniques. In this study, some cables showed a convolution which can cause the concentration of electric field and carbonized impurities at the surface of insulation. Also there is a relation between the degree of cross- linking and volume resistivity. From the hot oil test, the sites of water tree and void coincided with each other.

  • Nanofiltration of aqueous dye solutions was carried out using polyamide (PA) nanofiltration (NF) composite membranes. The PA composite membranes were prepared by the interfacial polymerization of piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) on the surface of microporous polysulfone (PSf) ultrafi1tration (UF) membranes. After characterization in terms of their permeation performance and surface ionic property, they were used for the separation of dye solutions such as Direct Red 75, 80, 81, and Direct Yellow 8 and 27. The separation conditions were varied to study the factors affecting on the permeation performance of the membranes: different concentrations of dye solutions, operating temperature and time, and flow rate of a feed solution. The surface property of the membrane, especially its ionic property, as a function of operating time was examined with a zeta-potentiometer and the relationship between the surface chemistry of the membrane and its permeation properties was also studied.

  • Carbonate-type organic electrolytes were prepared using propylene carbonate (PC) and dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as a solvent, quaternary ammonium salts, and by adding different contents of 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ($EMImBF_4$). Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry were performed to analyze conducting behaviors. The surface characterizations were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy method and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. From the experimental results, increasing the $EMImBF_4$ content increased the ionic conductivity and reduced bulk resistance and interfacial resistance. In particular, after adding 15 vol% $EMImBF_4$ in 0.2 M $SBPBF_4$ PC/DMC electrolyte, the organic electrolyte showed superior capacitance and interfacial resistance. However, when $EMImBF_4$ content exceeded 15 vol%, the capacitance was saturated and the voltage range decreased.
