Development of Head Mounted Display Interface System for Controlling Wireless Capsule Endoscope (무선 캡슐내시경 조종을 위한 머리부착형 디스플레이 인터페이스 시스템의 개발)

  • The present study proposed a new interface system for capsule endoscopy by using head mounted display (HMD) device, which can control the orientation of the capsule endoscope with electromagnetic actuator (EMA) system. The orientation information of the HMD user was detected by the gyroscope sensor built into the device and then calculated to as an angle increment using Unity Engine compiler. The measured angle changes from the HMD were converted to the current values of the corresponding coils to be changed in the EMA system. Two experiments were designed to measure the accuracy and the intuitiveness of the HMD interface system. In the angle accuracy measurement, the capsule endoscope driven by HMD interface system showed the averaged errors of 0.68 degrees horizontally and 1.001 degrees vertically for given test angles. In the intuitiveness measurement, HMD interface system showed 1.33 times faster manipulation speed rather than the joystick interface system. In this respect, the HMD interface system for capsule endoscopy was expected to improve the overall diagnostic environment while maintaining comfort of patients and clinicians.

Multimodal Interface Based on Novel HMI UI/UX for In-Vehicle Infotainment System

  • We propose a novel HMI UI/UX for an in-vehicle infotainment system. Our proposed HMI UI comprises multimodal interfaces that allow a driver to safely and intuitively manipulate an infotainment system while driving. Our analysis of a touchscreen interface-based HMI UI/UX reveals that a driver's use of such an interface while driving can cause the driver to be seriously distracted. Our proposed HMI UI/UX is a novel manipulation mechanism for a vehicle infotainment service. It consists of several interfaces that incorporate a variety of modalities, such as speech recognition, a manipulating device, and hand gesture recognition. In addition, we provide an HMI UI framework designed to be manipulated using a simple method based on four directions and one selection motion. Extensive quantitative and qualitative in-vehicle experiments demonstrate that the proposed HMI UI/UX is an efficient mechanism through which to manipulate an infotainment system while driving.

  • This paper proposes a modified matched interface and boundary (MMIB) method to analyze the free vibration of beams with various interfaces caused by steps, intermediate rigid and elastic supports, intermediate concentrated masses and spring-mass systems, etc. A new strategy is developed to determine the parameters in the iterative computation of MMIB. The MMIB procedures are established to deal with boundary conditions and various interface conditions, which overcomes the shortcoming of the traditional MIB. A number of examples are utilized to illustrate the performance of MMIB method. Numerical results indicate that the MMIB method is a highly accurate and convergent approach for solving interface problems.

  • The emotional interface is essential technology for the robot to provide the proper service to the user. In this research, we developed emotional components for the service robot such as a neural network based facial expression recognizer, emotion expression technologies based on 3D graphical face expression and joints movements, considering a user's reaction, behavior selection technology for emotion expression. We used our humanoid robots, AMI and AMIET as the test-beds of our emotional interface. We researched on the emotional interaction between a service robot and a user by integrating the developed technologies. Emotional interface technology for the service robot, enhance the performance of friendly interaction to the service robot, to increase the diversity of the service and the value-added of the robot for human. and it elevates the market growth and also contribute to the popularization of the robot.   • A technology roadmap was developed for haptic interface technologies to be applied to games. Haptic interface technologies are expected to play an important role in games to provide gamers with interaction and immersive perception in near future, even though haptic interface technologies have been less studied than other perception-related technologies with respect to games. Information on two types of haptic interfaces - portable and desktop - and their evolution processes were analyzed in terms of technological demands. Haptic feedback technologies to realize these demands were inspected with the time frame and haptic feedback technologies were derived using a technology tree. The technology roadmap of haptic interfaces in game was finally constructed by mapping the technological demands in time with game technology trends. The technology roadmap of haptic interfaces will have implications on developing haptic interfaces to be applied to many applications including virtual realities and games.

  • We show that the electrical properties of organic thinfilm transistors(OTFTs) can be enhanced by controlling the morphology of interface between screen printed electrodes and gate dielectrics. Modified surface of the insulator layer($SiO_2$) affect on the interface energy of electrode on $SiO_2$ layer. Contact angle measurement and FT-IR spectrum shows that the interface is properly modified. OTFTs device with high efficiency has been realized through modification of interface layer.

Effect of Hysteresis on Interface Waves in Contact Surfaces

  • This paper describes a theoretical model and acoustic analysis of hysteresis of contacting surfaces subject to compression pressure. Contacting surfaces known to be nonlinear and hysteretic is considered as a simple spring that has a complex stiffness connecting discontinuous displacements between two solid contact boundaries. Mathematical formulation for 1-D interfacial wave propagation between two contacting solids is developed using the complex spring model to derive the dispersion relation between the interface wave speed and the complex interfacial stiffness. Existence of the interface wave propagating along the hysteretic interface is studied in theory and discussed by investigating the solution to the dispersion equation. Unlike the linear interface without hysteresis, there can exist only one distinct mode of interface waves for the hysteretic interface, which is anti-symmetric motion. The anti-symmetric mode of interface wave propagates with the velocity faster than the Rayleigh surface wave but less than the shear wave depending on the interfacial stiffness. If the contacting surfaces are compressed so much that the linear interfacial stiffness is very high, the hysteretic stiffness does not affect the interface wave velocity. However, it has an effect on the speed of interface wave for a loosely contact surfaces with a relatively low linear stiffness. It is also found that the phase velocity of anti-symmetric wave mode converges to the shear wave velocity in despite of the linear stiffness value if the hysteretic stiffness approaches 0.5.

Study of Pd substitution in orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010) structure: First principles calculation (Orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010) 구조의 Pd 치환 연구: 제 1 원리 계산)

  • NiSi is less stable than the previously-used $CoSi_2$ at high temperature. Some noble metals, such as Pd and Pt, have been added to NiSi to improve its thermal stability. We employed a first principles calculation to understand the Pd segregation at the interface. An orthorhombic structure of NiSi was used to construct an orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010). Lattice parameters along a- and c-axes in orthorhombic-NiSi were matched with those of Si for epitaxy contact. The optimized $1\times4\times1$ orthorhombic-NiSi (010) and $1\times2\times1$ Si (010) superstructures were put together to construct the orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010), and the superstructure was relieved in calculation to minimize its total free energy. The optimized interface thickness of the superstructure was $1.59\AA$. Pd atom was substituted in Ni and Si sites located near interface. Both Ni and Si sites located at the interface were favorable for Pd substitution.

  • The near explosion of attention given to graphene has attracted many to its research field. As new studies and findings about graphene synthesis, properties, electronic quality control, and possible applications simultaneous burgeon in the scientific community, it is quite hard to grasp the breadth of graphene history. At this stage, graphene's many fascinating qualities have been amply reported and its potential for various electronic applications are increasing, pulling in ever more newcomers to the field of graphene. Thus it has become important as a community to have an equal understanding of how this material was discovered, why it is stirring up the scientific community and what sort of progress has been made and for what purposes. Since the first discovery, the hype has expediently led to near accomplishment of industrial-sized production of graphene. This review covers the progress and development of synthesis and transfer techniques with an emphasis on the most recent technique of chemical vapor deposition, and explores the potential applications of graphene that are made possible with the improved synthesis and transfer.
