Optimizing of BCJR Equalization with BCJR Decoder in the Underwater Communication (수중통신에서 최적의 BCJR 등화 기법)

  • The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is sensitive to the inter-symbol interference due to delay spread develop of multipath signal propagation. Thus, it is necessary technique of equalizer and channel code to eliminate inter-symbol interference. In this paper, underwater acoustic communication system were analyzed by experiment using these techniques on the Kyeong-chun lake, Munkyeong City. Based on the results of experiment, we confirmed that the performance of the proposed iterative BCJR equalization method is improved by increasing the number of iterations.

Faster Than Nyquist Transmission with Multiple Channel Codes (다중 채널 부호를 이용한 FTN 전송 시스템)

  • The performance of turbo-like codes highly depends on their frame size and thus, the bit error rate performance of turbo-like codes can be improved by increasing the frame size. Unfortunately, increasing the frame size of channel codes induces some drawbacks such as the increase of not only encoding and decoding complexity but also transmission and decoding latencies. On the other hand, a faster than Nyquist (FTN) transmission causes intentional inter-symbol interference (ISI) and thus, induces some correlation among the transmission symbols. In this paper, we propose an FTN transmission with multiple channel codes. By exploiting the correlation among the modulated symbols, multiple code frames can be regarded as a code frame with a lager frame size. Due to the inherent parallel encoding scheme of proposed scheme, parallel decoding can be easily implemented.

Parameter Derivation for Reducing ISI in 2-Dimensional Faster-than-Nyquist Transmission (나이퀴스트율보다 빠른 전송 시스템에서 ISI 감소를 위한 변수 도출 방법)

  • A faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission scheme has been attracting great attention as a spectral efficient transmission scheme. In the FTN transmission scheme, modulated symbols are transmitted at a rate higher than Nyquist rate and thus, a performance loss due to the inter-symbol interference (ISI) is unavoidable. To minimize the performance loss in the FTN transmission scheme, parameters should be carefully optimized. Unfortunately, simulation-based parameter optimization requires significant amount of time and computing power, especially for 2-dimensional FTN systems. In this paper, we propose a 2-dimensional FTN transmission scheme using the optimized parameters based on numerical analysis and simulation results on the ISI. Compared with the conventional Nyquist system, the proposed 2-dimensional FTN transmission scheme not only offers virtually identical bit error performance but also offers higher spectral efficiency.

OFDM/OQAM-IOTA System (OFDM/OQAM-IOTA 시스템)

  • Although conventional OFDM/QAM modulation scheme using guard interval is robust to channel induced ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) in time-domain, it is very sensitive to ICI (Inter-Carrier Interference) due to doppler effect in frequency domain. OFDM/OQAM-IOTA modulation scheme utilizes IOTA (Isotropic Orthogonal Transform Algorithm) filter that has orthogonality in time and frequency domain so that it is robust to delay spread and doppler effect. OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system can increase bandwidth effeciency since it does not use guard interval. In this paper, we show the structure of OFDM/OQAM-IOTA and perfect channel estimation scheme for OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system. We also compare OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system and OFDM/QAM system in AWGN and 1-path Rayleigh fading channel. Simulation results show that OFDM/OQAM system outperforms OFDM/QAM system.

  • The performance of underwater wireless communication system is influenced on channel characteristic. Especially, a delay spread cause by reverberation and multi-path happen the ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) and reduces the communication performance. In this paper, we study the application of high speed data transmission in underwater to use the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique for robust the reverberation and multi-path. we confirm the performance of communication in underwater to use the model for actually underwater channel simulation model. As a result, we acquired the BER of modulation techniques. The BER of single carrier is $2{\times}10^{-1}$ and BER of multi currier is $8{\times}10^{-2}$ in 1000m. Transmission of single carrier is 5 kbps.

  • Noncoherent receivers are favored for block-code-modulated ultrawideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) systems because of their low implementation complexity compared with coherent rake receivers. However, existing noncoherent schemes, such as transmitted reference (TR) systems and averaged differential receivers (ADR), suffer from performance degradation and energy efficiency loss. Codeword matching and signal aggregation (CMSA) is a low complexity noncoherent receiver for UWB-IR. As the frame/symbol duration is shortened to boost data rate, interframe interference (IFI) or intersymbol interference (ISI) occurs and degrades the detection performance of CMSA. In this paper, block coded correlator which consists of the delay components and the reference signal is proposed to improve the performance of the receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed system leads to the better performance compared to the conventional CMSA receiver.

  • In this paper, Digital MultiTone(DMT) is an emerging multi-carrier modulation scheme, which has been adopted for VDSL(Very high speed Digital Subscribe Line). A problem of DMT is its sensitivity to frequency offset between the transmitted and received carrier frequencies. This frequency offset introduces inter-carrier interference(ICI) in the DMT symbol. This paper is proposed an ICI cancelation scheme using Kalman Filtering. The performance of the proposed method is compared with conventional methods in terms of bit error rate performance, bandwidth efficiency, and computational complexity. Through simulations, it is shown that for high values of the frequency offset and for higher order modulation schemes, the EKF(Enhanced Kalman Filtering) method perform better than the others.

Study of efficient sampling frequency offset estimation schemes for OFDM system (OFDM 시스템에서 효율적인 샘플링 주파수 옵셋 추정 기법에 관한 연구)

  • In an OFDM system, the sampling frequency offset between the transmitter and receiver is known to cause the inter-channel interference (ICI), resulting in performance degradation. Sampling frequency offset can be generally estimated by correlation of the pilot signal within contiguous OFDM symbol. In this paper, we propose sampling frequency offset estimation schemes using various mixture of consecutive symbols. We conduct a simulation in DVB-T(2K mode) system, which shows that the proposed schemes can improve the performance of sampling frequency offset estimation by decreasing noise effect within consecutive symbols in AWGN channel model.

A Design Method of Hybrid Analog/Asymmetrical-FIR Pulse-Shaping Filters with an Eye-Opening Control Option against Receiver Timing Jitter

  • This paper presents a method of designing hybrid analog/asymmetrical square-root (SR) FIR filters. In addition to the conventional frequency domain constraints, the proposed method considers time-domain constraints as well, including the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and the opening of the eye pattern at the receiver output. This paper also reviews a systematic way to find the discrete-time equivalence of analog parts in a band-limited digital communication system. Thus, a phase equalizer can be easily realized to compensate for the nonlinear phase responses of the analog components. With the hybrid analog/SR FIR filter co-design, examples show that using the proposed method can result in a more robust ISI performance in the presence of the receiver clock jitter.

  • In data transmission at the digital satellite broadcasting systems, the delay and spread are caused whit receiving original signals from the transmitter in the receiver. So, there are some problems in data fast transmission. Also, transmitted signals ate received in stale of the combination of transmission delay and noise of channel. The affect of channel noise is reduced when increasing transmission power, but as signal interference due to the transmission delay and spread of channel increase in proportion to the transmission power, there is a problem in spite of increasing the transmission power. And there is the problem to add ISI(inter symbol interference) because the property of the channel is limo-varying due to relative moving in the transceiver Therefore, in this paper, a pulse shaping filter for the high-speed service in digital satellite broadcasting systems was designed and reduced the ISI.
