  • In this paper, we developed not only a reliable sound localization system including a VAD(Voice Activity Detection) component using three microphones but also a face tracking system using a vision camera. Moreover, we proposed a way to integrate three systems in the human-robot interaction to compensate errors in the localization of a speaker and to reject unnecessary speech or noise signals entering from undesired directions effectively. For the purpose of verifying our system's performances, we installed the proposed audio-visual system in a prototype robot, called IROBAA(Intelligent ROBot for Active Audition), and demonstrated how to integrate the audio-visual system.

  • In this paper, a sensor network system for providing intelligent home network services is suggested. It steadily collects biological data of resident people and automatically detects emergency situations LEID(Lighting Embedded Information Device) system are the most essential component of the sensor network. They embed sensor network technology into lightening devices which are indispensable most living spaces. To verify practicality of the proposed intelligent home network service system, a prototypical system is realized in the Smart Home Industrialization Support Center at Kookmin University, and is tested within many practical circumstances.

  • In this paper, we introduced design of intelligent surveillance camera system and typical event processing scenario for urban transit. To analyze video, we studied events that frequently occur in surveillance camera system. Event processing scenario is designed for seven representative situations(designated area intrusion, object abandon, object removal in designated area, object tracking, loitering and congestion measurement) in urban transit. Our system is optimized for low hardware complexity, real time processing and scenario dependent solution.

  • An urban transit is representative public transportation which lots of people take everyday. Especially, the station of urban transit is one of the very important public civil infrastructures. From the teachings of subway fire disaster occurred at Daegu on 2003, a certain incident might create large numbers of deaths or injuries and a lot of damages to the subway station without having an accurate grasp of emergency situation and doing proper action on the situation. Therefore, the passive surveillance system, which means the present CCTV based system, needs to be changed into the active one. The active surveillance system is the CCTV based system with intelligent softwares which affords to prevent a certain incident or trouble and its aggravation. In this paper, the state of the art of the representative companies developing intelligent softwares and its application sites of Australia and Hong Kong are briefly introduced. Finally, with the consideration of its recent trends, some technical contents for the intelligent surveillance system of domestic urban transit are briefly described.

  • The agents for security surveillance are not enough for monitoring CCTV system, so the intelligent automatic surveillance system is needed. In this paper, object detection, tracking and abnormal event detection system is implemented for intelligent CCTV system. Each modules are tested on the real CCTV environment and promoted for commercialization. Abnormal event detection module and loitering detection and sudden running detection function and it's detection time is under 1 second which is satisfied level.

  • In this thesis. the application of the synchronizing control of the intelligent indoor lift system is showed. The separate axes of the indoor lift system are driven independently. PID controller, synchronous flexible logic compensating method and tilt sensor are applied to enhance the performance of the intelligent indoor lift system. the tilt sensor senses the horizontal error of the whole system. PID controller and synchronous flexible logic are used to compensate the synchronous errors of both the separate axes and whole system to be zero. Namely, using not the hardware coupling but the software algorithm. the indoor life system is operated without the error. Before applying the real system, the simulation using matlab testifies the possibility of the lift system. And the realization of the system is demonstrated with two DC servo motors. In the experiment test, flexible logic to compensate the synchronous error is chosen by the comparative method. the indoor lift system has to be considered the loading factor as the disturbance. Because the intelligent indoor lift system is developed to support the patients who don't change for themselves to move. finally, the system which considers the weight of the patient as the disturbance can carry the patients safely without synchronous and position error.

  • The rapid increase of the current marine accidents is mainly due to the human execution errors. In an effort to address this, various kinds of researches such as construction of the digital vessels and vessel information monitoring systems have been conducted. But for safe navigation of vessels, it lack on systems study which can efficiently store, utilize and manage the mass data accepted by the vessel. In this paper, we propose a VWS(Virtual World System) that is based on the architecture of intelligent systems RVC(Reactive Layer-Virtual World-Considerative Layer) model of intelligent autonomous navigation system. VWS is responsible to store all the necessary information for safe navigation of the vessel and the information services to the sub-system of intelligent autonomous navigation system. VWS uses topology database to express the specific problem area, and utilizes a scheduling to reflect the characteristics of the real-time processing environment. Also, Virtual World defines API for the system to reflect the characteristics of the distributed processing environment. As a case study, the VWS is applied to a intelligent ship autonomous navigation system, and simulation is done to prove the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • Advances in information and telecommunication technology increasingly reveal the potential of computer supported education. However, most computer supported learning systems until recently did not pay much attention to different characteristics of individual learners. Intelligent learning environments adaptive to learner's preferences and tasks are desired. Each learner has different preferences and needs, so it is very crucial to provide the different styles of learners with different learning environments that are more preferred and more efficient to them. This paper reports a study of the intelligent learning environment where the learner's preferences are diagnosed using learner models, and then user interfaces are customized in an adaptive manner to accommodate the preferences. In this research, the learning user interfaces were designed based on a learning-style model by Felder & Silverman, so that different learner preferences are revealed through user interactions with the system. Then, a learning style modeling is done from learner behavior patterns using Decision Tree and Neural Network approaches. In this way, an intelligent learning system adaptive to learning styles can be built. Further research efforts are being made to accommodate various other kinds of learner characteristics such as emotion and motivation as well as learning mastery in providing adaptive learning support.

  • The goal of this research is to develop of an intelligent injection mold process planning system using Case-Based Reasoning. Injection mold process planning is the planning of manufacturing process to produce an injection mold economically and efficiently. Automation of the process planning is required because the problems of handmade scheduling, the difficulty of training experts for process planning, the lack of domain experts, the spread of CAD/CAM system and flexible manufacturing. This research uses Case-Based Reasoning because the injection mold process planning is devised variously and complicatedly, but the process planning of similar injection molds is very similar to each other. The system that is developed by this research uses cases that are collected in a case base when planning the process of new injection mold. New injection mold process planning is devised by retrieving a case that was made from the most similar injection mold. This research presented and composed the cases of injection mold process planning, and devised a method of search and adaptation, and developed an intelligent injection mold process planning system with the experimental results.

  • There are many economic and operational reasons to integrate fire alarm signaling system with other building automation system Integration of this requires open network with the standard communication protocol and careful design practices. The important point for this is also the development of intelligent control modules for replacing the conventional zone adapter in fire system. Therefore, this paper proposes an new conceptual design of the open distributed fire alarm signaling system for the integration of BAS and a new intelligent control modules with LonTalk protocol. Newly proposed additions to LonWorks network make it very well suited for integrating fire systems with other building automation systems. Additionally, it is very important that best design practices, test procedures and building codes need to be modernized to accommodate integrated building systems.
