  • Two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-based antennas for the application of software-defined radar are proposed and investigated herein. It is usually well known that SIWs are easily integrated, lightweight, have low insertion loss, and low interference levels compared to conventional microstrip structures. The primary function of the proposed antennas is to transmit continuous waves for indoor motion detection, with the lowest amount of loss and an appropriate amount of gain. Moreover, the results of this study show that the size of the antenna can be reduced significantly (i.e., by about 40%) by applying a meander line structure. The operating frequencies of the proposed antennas are both within the industrial, scientific, and medical band (i.e., 2.4-2.4835 GHz). Measured results of return loss are -16 dB and -20 dB at 2.435 GHz and 2.43 GHz, respectively, and the measured gain is 8.2 dBi and 5.5 dBi, respectively. Antenna design and verification are undertaken through commercially available full electromagnetic software.

  • KARI is currently developing a geostationary ocean color imager (GOCI) for COMS. We report the progress in integrated optical modeling and analysis for stray light suppression and the end-to-end instrument performance verification including in-orbit calibration. The Sun is modeled as the emitting light source and the selected area around Korean peninsular as the observation target that scatters the sun light towards GOCI in orbit. The optical ray tracing employing active geometric scaling was then used for precise characterization of the spatial and radiometric performance at the instrument focal plane. The analysis results show positive reduction in the simulated stray light level with the design improvement including baffles. It also indicates that the ray traced in-orbit radiometric performances are effective tools for the independent assessment of more traditional linear and quadratic equation based estimation of water leaving radiance. The concept of integrated GOCI optical model and the computational method are presented.

  • In this paper, integrated navigation algorithm is designed for land transport sector which is needed high accuracy and monitoring program is developed for lane departure warning. High accuracy position information which is possible lane separation is needed for lane departure warning, so position detection algorithm based GPS/DR which combine GPS with dead reckoning is proposed. For the verification of the designed integrated navigation algorithm, we drived to acquire data and showed post-processing experiment results with monitoring program. Vehicle driving movie and aerial photograph in monitoring program is designed to show lane keeping and lane separation.

  • This paper presents a new design concept for ocean nuclear power plants (ONPPs) using a tension leg platform (TLP). The system-integrated modular advanced reactor, which is one of the successful small modular reactors, is mounted for demonstration. The authors define the design requirements and parameters, modularize and rearrange the nuclear and other facilities, and propose a new total general arrangement. The most fundamental level of design results for the platform and tendon system are provided, and the construction procedure and safety features are discussed. The integrated passive safety system developed for the gravity based structure-type ONPP is also available in the TLP-type ONPP with minor modifications. The safety system fully utilizes the benefits of the ocean environment, and enhances the safety features of the proposed concept. For the verification of the design concept, hydrodynamic analyses are performed using the commercial software ANSYS AQWA with the Pierson-Moskowitz and JONSWAP wave spectra that represent various ocean environments and the results are discussed.

  • The transportation of spent nuclear fuel is an important process that involves road and sea transport from an interim storage facility to storage and final disposal sites. As spent nuclear fuel poses a significant risk, carefully evaluating its vibration and shock characteristics under normal transport conditions is essential. In this regard, full-scale multi-modal transport tests (MMTT) have been conducted domestically and internationally. In this paper, we discuss the process of developing a multi-body dynamics (MBD) model to analytically simulate conditions that cannot be considered in tests. The MBD model is based on the KORAD-21 transportation system was validated using the Korean MMTT results from 2020 to 2021. This paper summarizes the details of the development and verification of the MBD model for the KORAD-21 transportation system under normal transport test conditions. This approach can be applicable to various transportation scenarios and systems, and the results of this study will help to ensure that nuclear fuel transportation is conducted safely and effectively.

  • In this paper, we describe a hardware-software co-verification methodology and environment in developing a mobile station modem chip for cdma2000 1x which is one of the 3rd generation mobile communication standards. By constructing an efficient co-verification environment for a register-transfer-level hardware model and a physical-layer software model combining a channel link simulator and a versatile test-bench, we can drastically reduce both time and cost for developing a complex three-million-gate class system integrated circuit.

  • WA-DGNSS is a system to service for users using a satellite which received correction data from ground station that calculates the relative errors of the tracked GNSS signals and sends to a satellite. Users are guaranteed the reliability of the GNSS signal and the accuracy of positioning. ICAO recommends the application of WA-DGNSS for the airplane taking off and landing process. In this paper, we suggests methods to verify of the pre-developed WA-DGNSS reference software constituting modules and an integration test process refer to the RTCA DO-278 which is a document for the development process of an aeronautics software. Also, we statistically verified the reference software test through our methods. And then, we confirmed to performance the function of the reference software properly.

  • CVR is a technique for reducing power consumption by reducing the voltage of the system and many demonstrations and studies have been conducted in the past. Recently, SCADA-based or AMI-based VVC have been developed and the CVR is used as an important operation mode. Using a variety of instruments, CVR determines the optimal VVC control references by closed loop control. In this paper, we implemented RTDS-MATLAB integrated simulation environment for development and verification of CVR control algorithm based on voltage measurement. The voltage control device of distribution system was modeled using RTDS and MATLAB has constructed a controller that can measure and control the voltage of the simulation system of RTDS. After the capacitor, which is a reactive power control device, flattens the voltage of the system, the control algorithm reduces the voltage of the system by tap control of the OLTC based on the flatten voltage. The proposed system was verified by simulations.

  • For OBC (On-Board Charger) and LDC (Low DC-DC Converter) used as essential power conversion systems of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), system performance is required as well as reliability, which is need to protect the vehicle and driver from various faults. While current development processor is sufficient for embodying functions and verifying performance in normal state during development of prototypes for OBC and LDC, there is no clear method of verification for various fault situations that occur in abnormal state and for securing stability of vehicle base, unless verification is performed by mounting on an actual vehicle. In this paper, a CCM (Charger Converter Module) was developed as an integrated structure of OBC and LDC. In addition, diverse fault situations that can occur in vehicles are simulated by a simulator to artificially inject into power conversion system and to test whether it operates properly. Also, HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) is carried out to verify whether LDC is operated properly under power environment of an actual vehicle.
