A Study on Peak Power Reduction using Regenerative Energy in Railway Systems through DC Subsystem Interconnection

  • Owing to the consistent increase in energy efficiency issues, studies for improving regenerative energy utilization have been receiving attention in the Urban DC railway systems, where currently, the utilization of regenerative energy is low due to the lack of a specific plan for using this energy. The regenerative energy in railway systems has a low efficiency problem which results in the increase of the catenary voltage and a possibility to create problems to the electrical devices connected to the system. This paper deals with the power integration of large urban railway subsystems to improve regenerative energy utilization where the railway subsystems are integrated with other railway subsystems to improve the energy efficiency. Through the case studies, to find the realistic effect of integrated operation, the Seoul Metro subsystems, namely Line 5 and Line 7, has been applied. Also, evaluation for the electricity cost saving has been performed by using KEPCO electricity cost table.

  • A Structure of a system is usually described as same as an architecture, but they are basically different. The architecture has a broader meaning than a system structure. In other words, an architecture can include many of system structures. So, to define the architecture, we need to consider how functions of a system are consisted and integrated. The architecture defined is applicable to railway safety management systems, and it can be made as a new model for railway safety systems, which is useful to systematize railway safety regulations. To establish the architecture as applicable to railway safety regulations, it is required to compare between regulation relations by analyzing roles before/after executing railway safety regulations. Therefore, in this research, we reviewed and classified different types of regulation conditions and safety requirements for railway systems and a variety of conditions before/after railway safety regulations changes are compared by defining system architectures subject to National railway safety.

  • It is increased that need of broadband multimedia service to make useful environment for user and to support the operation of railway system. So study of integrated data transmission in a subway and railway is activated. The research deals with pass loss characteristics of 18GHz microwave that is assigned frequency of integrated data transmission in a subway and railway. It is used sample integrated transmission system in subway and railway of KRRI(korea railroad research Institute) at the tunnel and road. Specification of test sample system is blow. It use OFDM modulation, Wireless frequency is 18GHz and 19GHz, Maximum output power is 20dBm, Receive sensitivity is -90dBm. The pass loss exponent and standard variation of road and tunnel is analyzed.

시설물 재해관리를 위한 재해정보분류체계 구성 방안 (Application of Disaster Information Classification System for Disaster Management)

  • Disaster management system should be built for minimizing damage factor that affects to construction facility from natural disaster. It could be classified by three categories such as disaster prevention, damage survey and recovery phases. For an integrated disaster management system, a disaster information classification system(DICS) is necessary for the reasonable disaster information management. This study suggests an integrated DICS that includes disaster type classification, facility type classification and information type classification for disaster management service. The applicability of suggested DICS is verified by railway facility and the research result could be used as a basic information system for national disaster management system.

  • 2007년 7월부터 시행되고 있는 수도권 대중교통 통합요금제는 이용자의 통행비용 절감 및 활발한 환승행위의 유도로 긍정적인 평가를 얻고 있다. 그러나 수도권 대중교통 통합요금제를 고려한 철도 수요예측 방법론, 특히 수단분담과 관련된 연구가 많지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 수도권 대중교통 통합요금제를 반영할 수 있는 수단별 효용산정기법을 제시하였으며, 2006년 가구통행실태조사 자료를 활용하여 통행시간과 통행비용 산정에 적용되는 계수를 현실화하였다. 그리고 다양한 요금제를 적용하기 위한 철도 수요예측 방법론을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 제시한 철도 수요예측 방법론은 철도 수요예측의 정확성과 유용성을 향상시키는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

철도망 구축을 고려한 철도시스템의 기술개발전략 (A Strategy of Technology Development for the Railway System based on Railway Network)

  • Studied was a strategy of technology development for railway system in terms of railway network. First, The successful launch of the Korean HST system has not only decreased logistics burden but also significantly transformed the Korean trunk-line railway network, revolutionizing the logistics and technology sectors and reinvigorating the Korean railway industry in one century. Korean railway industry sector is now investing to develop many different types of railway system(G7, Post G7, tilting train...) so that these kinds of various railway system development should be integrated with the National Inter-modal Transportation Network Plan. To secure sufficient capacity that is required by the National Railroad Plan, the railway industry needs to establish mid- and long-term train purchase and operation strategies in compliance with railway construction and operation policies. During a railway construction planning, train operators, based on their train operation strategies, should come up with measures to closely cooperate with project operators from the planning stage through to the opening of a railway system. To be more precise, train operators should establish long-term train procurement plans reflecting both long-term national railroad network plans and plans for each railway line in order to suggest appropriate roles and schedules for each line. Also, based on the long-term railway plan, directions should be decided concerning the research and development of trains in advance.

  • The railway signaling systems operated in Korea are ATS system, ATP system for the low speed line and ATC system for the high speed line. The integrated onboard signaling system for the next-generation high-speed rail is progressed as the need for reducing a driver's load and controlling a train properly with the automatic translation of the onboard signaling system according to a trackside signaling system. In this paper the configuration of the integrated onboard signaling system and the interfaces of the subsystems is presented.

  • Rail network authority have to do the safety ensuring activities including the maintenance of railway facilities, integrated performance verification between the facilities and related lolling stock and safety inspections, etc. When constructing the new lines or upgrading the conventional lines, full system commissioning should be done before the revenue service with railway operator. To develop the optimal full system commissioning model, the status of domestic and foreign railway facilities and railway accidents are analysed and the problems of the safety management are derived. As one of countermeasures for the problems, the procedures and criteria for the full system commissioning are developed.

  • The railway signal ing system consists of several vital computerized equipments. Now the project for development of signal ing system for the next-general ion high-speed train is progressed according to the consortium. The developing signal ing system by this project, kTCS(Korean Train Control System), is composed of kTCS-CTC, kTCS-IXL, kTCS-ATC and etc. The KTCS signaling has to be operated as a integrated system by interface between each signaling. To achieve these, communicat ion protocols between each signal ing have to be designed and message codes are defined. In this paper the configuration of integrated kTCS system and designed communication protocol is presented.
