  • Polycarbonate (PC) materials having electrical insulation properties, are thermoplastic material and are easily processed, have excellent strength and heat resistance characteristics, and also have transparent and hard characteristics. In this study, we tried to derive the ε-N curve of strain-life, which shows the relationship between the strain characteristics and the life of the material when repeated impact loads are applied to the PC plastic material. As the impact load increased to 3.0kg, 4.0kg, 5.0kg, and 6.0kg, the strain also increased linearly to 0.033, 0.041, 0.046, and 0.055. At 3.0kg of mass impact, the test piece broke with 12000 impact cycles, 8400 times at 3.5kg, 7400 times at 4.0kg, 6600 times at 4.5kg, 4700 times at 5.0kg, 3000 times at 5.5kg, and 1000 times at 6.0kg. The number of fractures exponentially decreased as the load gradually increased. Using these results, an ε-N curve for PC plastic was derived.

  • This study investigates and analyzes the total amount of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission during the material manufacturing, transportation, construction, operation, and disposal phases of eight elementary school buildings in South Korea. Toward this ends, the hybrid LCA model is proposed. The life cycle energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission of eight case buildings are assessed using the hybrid LCA model with an assumption that the operation period is 40 years. As a result, the embodied(sum of the energy consumption in the material manufacturing, transportation and construction phases), operational and disposal energy were 2,279, 11,182, $228Mcal/m^2$, respectively, on average. The average embodied, operational, and disposal $CO_2$ emission were 604, 2,708, 60 kg-$CO_2/m^2$, respectively, on average. This result indicates that about 17% of life cycle energy (or $CO_2$ emission) is consumed in the material manufacturing, transportation and construction phases. Thus, it is necessary to consider the embodied energy and $CO_2$ emission to reduce the life cycle energy and $CO_2$ emission of school buildings. In addition, while the insulation standard of building have been provided based on the climate zone, energy consumption in operation phase still varied depending on the regions in this study. Thus, the insulation standard of building needs to be improved through considering the climate of regions in detail.

  • Infrared (IR) thermography which is the technique for detecting invisible infrared light emitted by objects due to their surface thermal condition and for producing an image of the light has been applied in various field without damaging the objects. It also could be used indirectly to examine the inside of an object. In this study, insulation property of wooden house in Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI) was evaluated with according to "Thermal performance of building - Quantitative detection of thermal irregularities in building envelopes - infrared method (KS F 2829)". This method uses "Temperature Difference Ratio (TDR)" between outdoor wall surface and indoor wall surface of wooden building for evaluating its thermal performance. The thermal performance of a room on the 2nd floor of the wooden house was focused in this study and IR thermography on the indoor and outdoor surface of the house was captured by IR camera. Heat loss from the corner and the window of the wooden house as well as wall of the house was quantitatively evaluated and the invisible heat loss in the wall was detected. It is expected that the results from this study could contribute to improve the wooden building energy efficiency.

  • Han-ok has a long history and cultural traditions. It has green and healthy and culture but high construction costs, thermal insulation performance of residential and vulnerable to fires and have a weakness for maintenance. However, modernized resident housing, Han-ok is required to improve in terms of environmental aspect due to its weakness for insulating and inconvenience for modem era. Also Han-Ok's building is criticized as a huge dependence on subjective building experiences. This is pointed to be the biggest problem, Han-ok has. Traditionally it does not have a scientific and specific manual for construction. In this research, process simulation was adopted to develop Han-Ok's environmental improvements. In terms of LCC (Life Cycle Cost) aspect, however, Han-Ok's environmental characteristics are examined to suggest an appropriate Han-Ok construction method. Also the result of this research would be utilized to base the information database for efficient constructing and its management in new Han-Ok constructing industry.

  • Aging test was done by loading back method for 20kVA amorphous core transformers manufactured by Hyosung Industries Co. and korea Electric Power Corporation. Iron losses, copper losses and insulation oil temperatures of the transfromers was measured for all the testing period. Expected life of amorphous core transformers on the basis of the degradation of the insulators was 46 years at 100% load, and 2.4 years at 130% load. Average temperature rising of transformer oil of amorphous core transformers was higher than that of silicon steel core transformers. Hence lowering the oil temperature by optimized design is needed for improving the expected life of the amorphous transformers.

  • The sound insulation capacity of a barrier is indicated by its transmission loss. In this study, the sound transmission loss of a sound barrier filled with rice-straw particles was measured by the transfer function method and a laboratory measurement method. The results of the two measurements were compared. The transmission losses measured by the two methods were similar above a frequency of 500 Hz. The loss increased greatly upon the introduction of a plywood to the sound barrier. The results of this study are expected to be used to design sound barriers for roads.

  • In order to evaluate the aging of mineral oil immersed distribution transformers, it gathered some insulation oil in over loaded and long time(exceed their service life, 13yrs.) aged transformers in the field, we measured moisture content, acid number, dielectric strength of the oil as defined in KS C 2101 standard. And also, it had been measured dielectric constant, specific resistant, $tan{\delta}$ on aged transformer oil at from $10^{\circ}C$ to $130^{\circ}C$. These results are compared with a new mineral oil. From this study, it can be considered that the analysis of mineral oil may be suitable for evaluation of life expectancy in distribution transformers

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the thermal performance of a cladding system which developed for easy maintenance and flexibility and installed on a long-life housing. The developed cladding systems were finished mock-up test at an authorized certification laboratory and were satisfied with the standard of the external wall system. The surface temperature and linear thermal transmittance of the cladding system were investigated by using the THERM as a simulation program. The joining part between the cladding systems had a weakness of condensation resistance. The surface temperature of the joining part was improved by filling and adding insulation.

  • Because the interfaces between two different materials are the weak-link in the underground power transmission systems, they affects the stability of insulation systems. In this paper, Epoxy/EPDM interface is selected and investigated the optimum condition by variation of interfacial conditions such as roughness of surface, spreading of oils, interfacial pressure and temperature. The breakdown times under the constant voltage below the breakdown voltage were also gamed. The breakdown voltage at the after laying time equivalent to is calculated by the V-t characteristic and the inverse power law. When this is done. the characteristic life exponent n is used and the long time breakdown voltage can be evaluated.
