Coating deviation control in traverse direction in a continuous galvanizing line

  • A new air knife system for coating thickness control in hot dip galvanizing process had been developed and installed on the CGL in Pohang Steel Works, POSCO. This new system consists of air knives with remotely adjustable nozzle slot and an automatic control system which can control both longitudinal and traverse coating deviations. Based on the optimal control algorithm, a traverse coating deviation control was designed. The controller controls the lip profile of the air knives with flexible structure according to the deviation of coating weight. From the measured values which are dependent on the strip width, the lip gaps are calculated with optimal algorithm and the model of the coating deviation. Time delay between knives and a coating thickness gauge is solved by the Smith Predictor.

손가락 힘측정장치의 3축 힘센서 설계 (Design of a Three-Axis Force Sensor for Finger Force Measuring System)

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a three-axis force sensor with three parallel plate structures(PPSs) for measuring force in a finger force measuring system for a spherical object catch. The three-axis force sensor is composed of a Fx force sensor, Fy force sensor and a Fz force sensor, and the elements of Fx force sensor and Fy force sensor are a parallel plate structure(PPS) respectively and Fz force sensor is two PPS. The three-axis force sensor was designed using FEM(Finite Element Method), and manufactured using strain-gages. The characteristics test of the three-axis force sensor was carried out. As a test results, the interference error of the three-axis force sensor was less than 1.32%, the repeatability error of each sensor was less than 0.04%, and the non-linearity was less than 0.04%.

  • The digital instrumentation and control system for the large scale system like the power plant must have the form of the heirachical structure. Because most large scale system have many control and process signals and it is distributed in the vade region, it is necessary to partition them into several subsystems. Therefore, the role of SCS(Supervisory Control System) having the functions of controlling and monitoring for the status of subsystems is very important. In this paper, new SCS for the effective control of the large scale system is proposed.

  • Chemical and morphological changes of phenol formaldehyde-based photoresist after $O_2$ radiofrequency(RF) plasma treatment depending on exposure time and source power were investigated. It was found that etch rate of photoresist sharply increased after discharge turn on and reached a limit with increase in plasma exposure time. Contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) analysis showed that the surface chemical structure become nearly constant after 15 sec of the treatment. Atomic force microprobe(AFM) measurements were shown that surface roughness was increased with plasma exposure time.

  • This paper proposes the systematic auto-tuning method for fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm(GA). In general, the design of fuzzy logic controller has difficulties in the acquisition of expert's knowledge and relies to a great extent on heuristic knowledge which, in many cases, cannot be objectively justified. So, the performance of the controller can be degraded in the case of plant parameter variations or unpredictable incident which the designer may have ignored. Proposed genetic algorithm searches the optimal rule structure, parameters of membership functions and scaling factors simultaneously and automatically by a new genetic coding format. Inverted pendrum system is provided to show the advantages of the proposed method.

  • We propose a robust equalization algorithm to improve the performance of airplane flutter casuing dynamic ghosts. The algorithm is an augumentation of the DFE with training sequence(DFE-TS) with the Modified Stop-and-Go Algorithm(MSGA) based on DFE structure, which is called a DFE-TS/MSGA. This will allow the equalizer to switch itself back to blind mode almost instantaneously when drastic and sudden changes in the channel occur. Test results based on the 8-VSB HDTV receiver show that the proposed algorithm is robust against dynamic ghosts and outperforms the conventional DFE-TS in reducing the intersymbol interference.

  • In this paper, we show the simple methods of designing the Smith predictor for the long dead time processes. We are using the relay feedback to model the processes in the second-order plus dead time structure. The model is able to represent a various class of processes dynamics including low- or high-order, and monotonic or oscillatory process. A PID type controller is proposed for the main controller in the Smith controller, which insure the stability of overall system. Simulation Examples are also provided to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed controller.

  • This paper discusses Self-organized Distributed Networks(SODN) as identifier of nonlinear dynamical systems. The structure of system identification employs series-parallel model. The identification procedure is based on a discrete-time formulation. The learning with the proposed SODN is fast and precise. Such properties arc caused from the local learning mechanism. Each local networks learns only data in a subregion. Large number of memory requirements and low generalization capability for the untrained region, which are drawbacks of conventional local network learning, are overcomed in the SODN. Through extensive simulation, SODN is shown to be effective for identification of nonlinear dynamical systems.

Effect of Salts on Gelation Time of Silk Sericin Solution

  • Sericin undergoes gelation by the structural transition from random coil to b-sheet transition. In the present study, the gelation time of sericin solution was investigated in the presence of NaCl, KCl and $CaCl_2$. The addition of salts delayed the gelation time, and $CaCl_2$ had the most pronounced effect, which delayed about 8 h at maximum. The gelation time increased with the concentration of salt. The transition of secondary structure of sericin was retarded in the presence of salt. The effect of salts on the gelation time of sericin might be due to the solvation effect of relevant cation.

  • In this paper, a simple technique is presented for robust stability testing of perturbed DC-DC converters having multi-linear uncertainty structure. This technique provides a necessary and sufficient condition for testing robust stability. It is based on the corollary of Routh criterion and gridding of parameters. The previous work based on parametric control theory using Kharitonov's theorem and Hermite Biehler theorem gives conservative results and only the sufficient condition of stability, whereas the proposed method provides the necessary and sufficient condition for testing robust stability and it is computationally efficient. The superiority of the method is compared with the Edge theorem.
