Analysis and Design Considerations for a High Power Buck Derived LED Driver with Extended Output Voltage and Low Total Harmonic Distortion

  • In order to reduce the cost, improve the efficiency and simplify the complicated control of existing isolated LED drivers, an improved boundary conduction mode (BCM) Buck ac-dc light emitting diode (LED) driver with extended output voltage and low total harmonic distortion is proposed. With a coupled inductor winding and a stacked output, its output voltage can be elevated to a much higher value when compared to that of the conventional Buck ac-dc converter, without sacrificing the input harmonics and power factor. Therefore, the proposed Buck LED driver can meet the IEC61000-3-2 (Class C) limitation and has a low THD. The operating principle of the topology and the design methodology of the ac-dc LED driver are presented. A 150 W ac-dc prototype was built in the laboratory and it shows that the input current harmonics meet the lighting standard. In addition, the THD is less than 16% at a typical ac input. The peak efficiency is higher than 96.5% at a full load and a normal input.

  • DPCM의 선형예측기를 비감광성 원소(dummy pixel)를 가지고 있는 선형 감광성 전하결합소자(CCD)를 광전자 시스템으로 구현하는 방법을 제시하였다. 종래의 시스템과 마찬가지로 이 시스템은 입력광원, 공간여파기(마스크), 선형감광성 CCD의 3부분으로 구성되었다. 비감광성 원소에 의한 시간지연을 고려하여 종래의 마스크를 변형하여 각 예측계수를 하나 이상의 마스크 원소에 분산시킨, 새로운 방식의 분산형 마스크를 제시하고 이 마스크를 사용할 때의 특성을 이론적으로 분석하였으며 실험으로 확인하였다.

Dice-Five Polarization-Agile Corner-Fed Patch Array Antenna

  • A novel planar polarization-agile microstrip subarray is proposed and its performance assessed by a thorough numerical investigation. The subarray consists of five square patches with a central element, directly coupled to a pair of microstrip feed lines by a cross-shaped aperture, which spreads the power outwards to the other patches through a network of suitable connections. By properly exciting the antenna at its input ports, any kind of polarization of the radiated field can be accomplished with fairly low cross-polarization levels. Moreover, since only two feed lines are required to drive the whole subarray, polarization agility is simply and attractively achieved by a single phase-shift circuit. The design concept is described and the results of the analyses and simulations performed by two completely independent full-wave approaches are presented and discussed.

  • Aperture-coupled microstrip antenna is one type of microstrip antennas. This type of antenna has bandwidth wider than simple microstrip antenna. Herein, we use two substrates, that have the same dielectric constant 2.47 (PTFE-quartz) in which upper substrate is a rectangular patch. The microstrip patch is fed by a microstrip line which is printed on lower substrate, through an aperture or slot in the common ground plane of patch and microstrip feed. This antenna is analyzed by using Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method the specific design frequency 10 GHz and match impedance is 50 ohms. The simulation results of its characteristics are input impedance, return loss, VSWR and radiation patterns respectively.

  • Electron temperature and electron density were measured in a radio-frequency(rf) inductively coupled plasma using probe measurements. Measurements were made in an argon discharge for pressures from 10 to 100mTorr and input rf power from 100 to 800W. Spatial distribution Electron temperature and electron density were measured for discharge with same aspect ratio. Electron temperature and Electron density were found to depend on both pressure and power. Electron density was creased with increasing pressure, but peaked in a 70mTorr discharge. Radial distribution of the electron density was peaked in the plasma fringes. These results were compared to a simple model of inductively coupled plasmas.

  • Continuously variable transmission(CVT) mechanisms considered here combine the functions of a K-H-V type differential gear unit and a V-belt type continuously variable unit(CVU). As combining the functions of a K-H-V type differential gear unit and a V-belt type CVU, 24 different mechanisms are presented. Some useful theoretical formula related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency are derived and analyzed. These mechanisms have many advantages which are the decrease of CVT size, the increase of overall efficiency, the extension of speed ratio range, and the generation of geared neutral.

  • In this paper, the emission properties of electrodeless fluorescent lamp were discussed using the inductively coupled plasma. To transmit the electromagnetic energy into the chamber, a RF power of 13.56MHz was applied to the antenna and considering the Ar gas pressure and the RF electric power change, the emission spectrum, Ar-I line, luminance were investigated. At this time the input parameter for ICP RF plasma, Ar gas pressure and RF power were applied in the range of 10~60m Torr, 10~300W respectively.

  • A coupled recursive total least squares (CRTLS) algorithm is proposed for parameter estimation of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs). TLS considers the errors of both input variables and output ones, and thus achieves more accurate estimates than standard least squares method does. The proposed algorithm consists of two recursive total least squares (RTLS) algorithms for the d-axis subsystem and q-axis subsystem respectively. The incremental singular value decomposition (SVD) for the RTLS obtained by an approximate calculation with less computation. The performance of the CRTLS is demonstrated by simulation and experimental results.

  • A new DC-DC converter was designed for gate driver circuit using low temperature poly-Si TFT technology. To achieve high efficiency and small area, we proposed a cross-coupled type DC-DC converter which converts 5V of input voltage to 9V of output voltage and supplies 120$\mu$A of current to load. Its efficiency is 92.9% and the area is reduced as much as 19% compared to the previously reported latch type DC-DC converter.

  • In order to increase the coupling efficiency of the Power and Phase of the active Phase way antenna, we have fabricated the active phased-array antenna which is coupled by the transmission line, and investigated the relationship between the length of the coupling transmission line and coupling power and phase. The following three types of driving method -(1) giving the frequency difference between the two active antenna, (2) applying the input signal to the one side of the two antennas, and changing the eigen frequency of the other side antenna, (3) appling the different phase inputs to the active antennas was investigated. The experimental results showed that the interval of the antenna elements has not affected the power and the phase of the antenna.
