Co-creation and Personalization as Incentive Mechanisms of Utilizing External Innovation Sources: Which Performs Better?

  • Utilizing outside knowledge for innovation is an important task for companies in the competitive economy. Due to the rapid advance in the internet communication technology, the number and quality of innovation sourcing methods are increasing. We select co-creation, personalization and in-house R&D as the representative forms of innovation sourcing and suggest a game theory model that enables the comparative analysis between them. The decision and surplus outcome of the innovation mechanisms are compared under various settings of the input parameters of the model. The stakeholders voluntarily participate into all mechanisms when the product price is moderately high and the participation cost is low, while co-creation is the only feasible one when the product quality is niche. When the participation cost is relatively high, personalization outperforms co-creation.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 비즈니스 모델과 제품혁신이 모바일 생태계의 기업성과에 미치는 요인들을 제시하고 영향을 주는지에 대한 결과를 확인하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 선행연구를 통하여 4차 산업의 모태가 된 모바일 생태계에서 비즈니스 모델 요인과 제품혁신 요인들을 정의하였고, 각 요인이 기업성과에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설을 수립하였다. 그런 다음 모바일 생태계에 종사하는 기업 임직원을 대상으로 탐색적 설문조사 및 인터뷰를 진행하여 통계분석 및 시사점을 도출하였다. 분석 결과, 비즈니스 모델의 가치제안은 기업의 재무 및 비재우 성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 입증하였고 혁신성은 기업의 비재무 성과에 정(+)의 영향을 주는 것으로 입증하였다. 제품혁신의 가격경쟁력은 기업의 재무적인 요소에 정(+)의 효과 그리고 최초시장진입은 비재무적인 요소에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구를 통해 4차 산업혁명을 맞아 급성장하고 있는 기업의 성과를 비즈니스 모델과 제품혁신측면에서 측정 기준을 제안하였다.

  • 본 연구는 다양한 정보 원천과 시장 최초 제품 혁신과의 관계를 연구하기 위해 기업의 내부 및 외부 정보 원천이 시장 최초 제품 혁신과 어떤 관계를 가지고 있는지, 그리고 정부의 규제가 (경제적, 사회적 및 행정적 규제) 기업의 시장 최초 제품 혁신에 어떤 영향으로 작용하는지를 제도 이론(Institutional Theory)의 관점을 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석을 위해서 시장 최초 제품 혁신, 내부 및 외부 정보 원천, 그리고 경제적, 사회적 및 행정적 규제가 변수로 사용되었다. 본 연구는 한국과학기술정책연구원(STEPI)의 2020년 한국기업혁신조사(Korean Innovation Survey 2020) 설문 데이터를 바탕으로 진행되었다. 분석을 위해서 사용된 데이터는 제조 분야의 중소기업을 기반으로 사용되었고, 2017년부터 2019년까지의 총 586개의 기업이 사용되었다. 기존 연구에서 상대적으로 부족한 내부 및 외부 정보 원천 및 정부의 규제를 바탕으로 분석하여 연구의 새로운 방향성을 제시하였으며, 결과를 바탕으로 실무적인 시사점을 제공하였다.

외부지식탐색이 기업의 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향: 지식 보호와 환경 불확실성의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The effect of external knowledge search on innovation performance: the moderating effect of knowledge protection and environment uncertainty)

  • External knowledge search is critical to expand the firm's knowledge base, increasing the innovation performance. However, prior literature has paid less scholarly attention on the boundary condition of the search activity. In particular, the few literatures on the contingency factors are either conceptual or focus on the firm characteristics such as resources and capability. In this regard, this study argues the negative moderating effect of knowledge protection and environmental uncertainty of a firm on the positive relationship between external knowledge search and innovation performance, because these contingency factors hamper the reciprocity and the mutual trust between the firm and its external partner that provides knowledge needed in the innovation process. The empirical analysis is based on the sample drawn from Korean Innovation Survey, provided by STEPI in Korea. The sample consists of 1,637 respondent firms that experienced product innovation during the survey period. We could find statistically supporting results for the negative moderating effect on the positive relationship between external knowledge search and innovation performance. This study extends the academic debate on the boundary conditions of external knowledge search and provides managerial implications for successful product innovation.

The Impact of the Competitiveness of Intermediate Software on Enterprise Results : a Case Study of Chinese Intermediate Software

  • The purpose of this paper is to draw a conclusion on the impact of intermediate software on enterprise results. In this paper, product innovation and product reliability are especially used as analytical factors. An exploratory analytical study is conducted on the competitiveness of intermediate software, in the hope of gaining a new understanding of the competitiveness of intermediate software. Data are analyzed using such quantitative analytical tools as SPSS and AMOS. Using reliability analysis, validity analysis and structural equation model analysis, the final results are achieved. According to the analysis results, we can draw the following conclusions: the competitiveness of intermediate software has a positive impact on the innovation of software products. The competitiveness of intermediate software doesn't have a positive impact on the reliability of software products. Product innovation has a positive impact on enterprise results. Product reliability also has a positive impact on enterprise results. By analyzing the conclusions, we can make certain suggestions and draw implications on the competitiveness of China's software industry.

중소기업의 외부기관 협력과 신제품 매출 간의 관계: 기술혁신과 마케팅 역량의 역할 (The Relationship between Collaboration with External Institution and New Product Sales of SMEs: The Role of Technological Innovation and Marketing Capability)

  • 중소기업의 성장과 지속을 위한 중요한 요인인 신제품 매출에 대한 외부기관 협력의 영향과 변수 간에서 기술혁신의 매개효과 및 마케팅 역량의 조절효과, 마지막으로 마케팅 역량으로 조절된 기술혁신의 매개효과에 대한 실증연구이다. 회귀분석결과 중소기업의 R&D 분야에서 외부기관 협력이 신제품 매출에 유의한 영향을 주고, 외부기관 협력과 신제품 매출의 관계에서 기술혁신은 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 기술혁신과 신제품 매출 간의 관계에서 마케팅 역량의 절역할은 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 마케팅 역량이 낮은 기업의 경우에는 신제품 매출에 대한 기술혁신의 효과가 크게 나타나고, 반대로 마케팅 역량이 높은 기업의 경우에는 상대적으로 신제품 매출에 대한 기술혁신의 효과는 낮게 나타남을 의미한다. 마지막으로 기술혁신이 마케팅 역량으로 조절된 매개역할은 유의하지는 않은 것으로 나타났다.

패션상품으로서의 모바일폰: 의상과 모바일폰에서의 패션행동 비교 연구 (Mobile phone as a fashion product: Comparing fashion behaviors in clothing and mobile phone)

  • As mobile phone has acquired a status of a fashion item expressing one's character, it is necessary to understand the fashion needs for this new fashion product. The purpose of this study was to apply the fashion orientation construct developed in the clothing research field to mobile phone and explore its validity. The multi-dimensional construct of fashion orientation which most widely represented the fashion aspects was examined for the two product categories of clothing and mobile phone. Data were collected from an online questionnaire survey, and a total of 1,136 responses were analyzed. The construct structure of fashion orientation of mobile phone resulted in individuality, innovation, and fashion was different from that of clothing extracted to interest/importance, fashion/innovation, and individuality. Fashion sensitivity and an early adoption of a new product were two different dimensions in mobile phone while not separable in clothing. Despite a higher predictability of the fashion/innovation orientation of clothing on fashion orientation rather than on innovation orientation of mobile phone, innovation orientation was more important to purchase behaviors of mobile phone. The study still implies that it is valid to use clothing fashion innovative consumers for mobile phone marketing.

제조업 기업의 기술혁신 형태와 결정요인 : 기업규모와 기술혁신 (Firm Size and Innovation : A Probit Analysis)

  • This study empirically investigates innovative behaviors of the firm. In so doing, a Probit was employed and estimated. We used the raw data of the "corporate innovation survey"(CIS), which, in consent with OECD efforts, is regularly undertaken by the Science and Technology Policy Institute(SIEPI). The data set includes more than 3400 firms in the manufacturing sector. Three types of innovation, i.e., new product, product improvement and process innovation, are studied, assuming that determinants of innovation are firm′s age. number of employees as the size of firm, ratio of foreign ownership and innovation costs. To investigate the relationship between firm′s innovation behavior and the size, we estimate the Probit including the quadratic term of the firm size. Empirical findings showed that the sign of the quadratic term of the firm size turned out to be negative. It means that the probability of firm's making innovation shows the inversed-U relationship with the firm size. Such an empirical result may have a significant implication for the industrial policy.

서비스혁신 연구 동향: 국내 및 해외 주요 학술지를 중심으로 (A Review of Service Innovation Research: A Comparison of Domestic and International Research Papers)

  • Although service innovation is not a new concept, innovation research in general tends to focus on technological innovation by manufacturing firms. With this view, innovation studies focus on product(e.g., goods) and process(e.g., product systems) innovation, ignoring service innovation and its inherent opportunities. Since major economy has been transformed to service economy, service innovation is considered a new effective way to sustain and gain a competitive advantage. Service innovation is no longer regarded merely as a side activity to product innovation; it has become a main research topic in its own right, accompanied by an increasing focus on services. While the number of service innovation studies has increased dramatically in the past 30 years in international research, few studies have been performed in domestic studies because domestic service innovation research began from the middle of 2000. In addition, there are no comprehensive literature reviews describing the evolution of service innovation research in both international and domestic studies because of the heterogeneities of service industry and multidiscipline characteristics of service innovation studies. To bridge this research gap, the purpose of this paper is to perform an extensive literature review and synthesis to enable a critical review of extant research on service innovation and trace its evolution, which will establish a foundation for further studies. By reviewing 169 articles (136 international papers; 33 domestic papers) published between 2000 and 2014 (in past 15 years), primarily in leading service, innovation and management information systems journals, this study analyzes the progression of service innovation research according to the four aspects such as number of studies, topics, methodologies and target industries. Overall, the view of service innovation has evolved, from a complement of traditional product innovation to a multidimensional, all-encompassing concept that entails several functions, both within and outside the firms. The results showed that domestic research still stays at the formation phase of service innovation studies although international research is in the maturity or multidimensional phase. We found increasing recent activities pertaining to service innovation, resulting from the increasing interest in services innovation across various industries and the links of new topics to the service innovation concept in both international and domestic studies. However, the main focus of service innovation research showed a different propensity between international and domestic studies: the former mainly focuses on a much more diversified pattern, emphasizing the linkages between service innovation and business strategy while the latter mainly focuses on the service innovation process(system) and service design. In addition, there are many case studies in domestic studies while many empirical studies in international studies. Domestic studies should increases the understanding of the interplay between service innovation and product innovation within manufacturing firms. Furthermore, rather than focusing on intrinsic distinctions between service innovation and product innovation, researchers should strive to develop and conceptualize service innovation in domestics studies. The present research also provides useful implications for practitioners. First, this study contributes to expand the current understanding of service innovation research by performing an extensive literature review. Second, tracing and comparing the progression and trends of service innovation research between international and domestic studies, this study showed the similarities and differences between them, which provide practical guidance on future research directions and research agenda. Third, this study performed literature review establishing the analysis system in the initial stage and using them to analyze articles, which is leading to explain the research review of service innovation more systematically and objectively. Finally, this study suggests the domestic researchers their future interests and topics of service innovation research.

기업전략과 지식경영 전략의 연계가 제조기업의 혁신에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of the Knowledge Management Strategic Alignment on the Innovation of Manufacturing Firms)

  • This study empirically investigated the effects of knowledge management(KM) strategic alignment on the KM activities as well as the product and process innovation of manufacturing firms. Based on the framework, which employs the usage levels of target costing systems(TCS) and information technology(IT) infrastructure, four types of KM strategies were identified and proposed:mixed, explorative, exploitative and negative strategies. In this research, these four types of KM strategies were empirically validated. According to the results of this study, it was found that when a explorative KM strategy is aligned with a low-cost strategy, KM activities are activated and the degree of a process innovation is increased. It was observed that in the case of the alignment between a differentiation strategy and a exploitative KM strategy, both KM activities and the level of a product innovation are enhanced. The results also demonstrated that for the enhancement of both a process and a product innovation through the activation of KM activities, a mixed KM strategy must be aligned with a composite business strategy, which focuses on a low-cost as well as a differentiation strategies. Accordingly, it is concluded that the KM activities and the levels of the product and process innovation can be activated or improved with the alignment of the KM strategies and business strategies.
