  • The demand for independent generators using renewable energy has been increasing. Among those independent generators, small wind turbine generators have been actively developed. Permanent magnets are generally used for small wind turbine generators to realize a simple structure and small volume. On the other hand, cogging torque is included due to the structure of the permanent magnet synchronous machine, which can be the source of noise and vibration. The cogging torque can be varied by the shape of the permanent magnet and core, and it can be reduced using the appropriate design techniques. This paper proposes a design technique that can reduce the cogging torque by changing the shape of the permanent magnets for SPMSM (Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor), which is used widely for small wind turbine generators. Evolution Strategy, which is one of non-deterministic optimization techniques, was adopted to find the optimal shape of the permanent magnets that can reduce the cogging torque. The angle and outer diameter of permanent magnet were set as the design variable. A 300W class wind turbine generator, whose pole/slot combination was 8 poles/18 slots, was designed with the proposed design technique. The properties of the generator, including the cogging torque and output voltage, were calculated. The calculation results showed that the cogging torque of the optimized model was reduced compared to that of the initial model. The design technique proposed by this paper can be an effective measure to reduce the cogging torque.

  • The cross-sections of continuous multi-span beams sometimes suddenly increase, or become stepped, at the interior supports of continuous beams to resist high negative moments. The three-dimensional finite-element program ABAQUS (2006) was used to analytically investigate the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior of stepped beams subjected to pure bending moment and resulted in the development of design equations. The flanges of the smaller cross-section were fixed at 30.48 by 2.54 cm, whereas the width and/or thickness of the flanges of the larger cross-section varied. The web thickness and height of beam was kept at 1.65 cm and 88.9 cm, respectively. The ratios of the flange thickness, flange width, and stepped length of beams are considered analytical parameters. Two groups of 27 cases and 35 cases, respectively, were analyzed for double and single stepped beams. The combined effects of residual stresses and geometrical imperfection on inelastic lateral-torsional buckling of beams are considered. First, the distributions of residual stress of the cross-section is same as shown in Pi, etc (1995), and the initial geometric imperfection of the beam is set by central displacement equal to 0.1% of the unbraced length of beam. The new proposed equations definitely improve current design methods for the inelastic LTB problem and increase efficiency in building and bridge design. The proposed solutions can be easily used to develop new design equation for inelastic LTB resistance of stepped beams subjected to general loading condition such as a concentrated load, a series of concentrated loads or uniformly distributed load.

  • This study considers the case when a district with a high development possibility is set up as a regulation region. Initial assumption is that there would be regulation resistance in and around the regulation region. Pyeongchang is taken as a study areas, performing necessary analysis of environment regulation and regulation resistance based upon spatial analysis with the use of GIS. The research proceeding steps are as follows. After examining Pyeongchang present environment regulation state, environment regulation map is constructed, and classification of Pyeongchang's relatively development possibility level map is made. Using this regulation map and development possibility level map, relative regulation resistance level is measured. The results that the rates of Pyeongchang environment regulation region in its present state was higher than Namhan river basin's regulation region rates. Also, overlapping a high development possibility level region with an environment regulation region, the analysis results give reasons to expect high level of regulation resistance in Doam-myeon and Jinbu-myeon in small town units. The analysis of Pyeongchang new buildings locations with regard to environment regulation showed intensive distribution in the regulation region with high development possibility level and adjacent areas (about 66% of new buildings are distributed within 500m range from regulation region). Such results show that the local administration and existing environment regulation policy, not capable of offering direct benefit to the population, are having immanent problems in environment sustainable development and connected with it environment harm causation.

  • Research results for the pressure drop variance depending on operation conditions such as change of inlet concentration, pulse interval, and face velocity, etc., in a pulse air jet-type bag filter show that while at $3kg/cm^2$ whose pulse pressure is low, it is good to make an pulse interval longer in order to form the first layer, it may not be applicable to industry because of a rapid increase in pressure. In addition, the change of inlet concentration contributes more to the increase of pressure drop than the pulse interval does. In order to reduce operation costs by minimizing filter drag of a filter bag at pulse pressure $5kg/cm^2$, the dust concentration should be minimized, and when the inlet dust loading is a lower concentration, the pulse interval in the operation should be less than 70 sec, but when inlet dust loading is a higher concentration, the pulse interval should be below 30 sec. In particular, in the case that inlet dust loading is a higher concentration, a high-pressure distribution is observed regardless of pulse pressure. This is because dust is accumulated continuously in the filter bag and makes it thicker as filtration time increases, and thus the pulse interval should be set to below 30 sec. If the equipment is operated at 1m/min of face velocity, while pressure drop is low, the bag filter becomes larger and thus, its economics are very low due to a large initial investment. Therefore, a face velocity of around 1.5 m/min is considered to be the optimal operation condition. At 1.5 m/min considered to be the most economical face velocity, if the pulse interval increases, since the amount of variation in filter drag is large, depending on the amount of inlet dust loading, the operation may be possible at a lower concentration when the pulse interval is 70 sec. However, for a higher concentration, either face velocity or pulse interval should be reduced.

  • An influx of the population to the city has soared due to industrialization. As times go by, cities become densely populated so Korean government started to construct a number of buildings including apartment housings. Because they have become functionally, structurally, esthetically deteriorated over the past two decades. some improvements are needed. There are mainly two ways to improve old buildings: remodeling and reconstruction. Between the two, the first one is more popular as it is less time-consuming and more eco-friendly. Demolition work comes first for both of them and it should not give negative effects since it is regarded as a CP(Critical path) in the overall process. For this reason, a thorough construction management must be done. The reality, however, demolition is managed by the construction manager's experiences and decisions. If the key factor of demolition which is the planning of manpower and machine equipment, is determined by unscientific and subjective judgments, its period and risk also will increase. In particular, eco-friendly demolition can be more risky because it's been rarely conducted. Therefore, scientific and objective ways of demolition management are needed. In this context, this paper aims at analyzing productivity in each process of demolition focusing on manpower and machinery equipment which are the main parts of demolition assuming that the demands of eco-friendly remodeling demolition projects will be increasing. At the same time, by estimating working period through the output, this paper would be helpful to set up the plans for overall project in earlier stage.

  • This paper suggest a way to detect a specific wanted figure in public places such as subway stations and banks by comparing color face images extracted from the real time CCTV with the face images of designated specific figures. Assuming that the characteristic of the surveillance camera allows the face information in screens to change arbitrarily and to contain information on numerous faces, the accurate detection of the face area was focused. To solve this problem, the normalization work using subsampling with $20{\times}20$ pixels on arbitrary face images, which is based on the Perceptron Neural Network model suggested by R. Rosenblatt, created the effect of recogning the whole face. The optimal linear filter and the histogram shaper technique were employed to minimize the outside interference such as lightings and light. The addition operation of the egg-shaped masks was added to the pre-treatment process to minimize unnecessary work. The images finished with the pre-treatment process were divided into three reception fields and the information on the specific location of eyes, nose, and mouths was determined through the neural network. Furthermore, the precision of results was improved by constructing the three single-set network system with different initial values in a row.

  • The field scale experiment was performed to examine the effect of plant coverage on the constructed wetland performance and recommend the optimum development and management of macrophyte communities. Four sets (each set of 0.88 ha) of wetland (0.8 ha) and pond (0.08 ha) systems were used. Water flowing into the Seokmoon estuarine reservoir from the Dangjin stream was pumped into wetland system. Water depth was maintained at 0.3 ${\sim}$ 0.5 m and hydraulic retention time was managed to about 2 ${\sim}$ 5 days; emergent plants were allowed to grow in the wetlands. After three growing seasons of the construction of wetlands, plant coverage was about 90%, even with no plantation, from bare soil surfaces at the initial stage. During the start up period of constructed wetlands, lower water levels should be maintained to avoid flooding newly plants, if wetland plants are to be started from germinating seeds. Effluent T-N concentration in low plant coverage wetland was higher in winter than high plant coverage wetland, whereas no T-P effluent concentration and removal efficiency difference was observed within 15% plant coverage. Dead vegetation affected nitrogen removal during winter because it is a source of organic carbon which is an essential parameter in denitrification. Biomass harvesting is not a realistic management option for most constructed wetland systems because it could only slightly increase the removal rate and provide a minor nitrogen removal pathway due to lack of organic carbon.

  • Given digraph network $D=(N,A),n{\in}N,a=c(u,v){\in}A$ with source s and sink t, the maximum flow from s to t is determined by cut (S, T) that splits N to $s{\in}S$ and $t{\in}T$ disjoint sets with minimum cut value. The Ford-Fulkerson (F-F) algorithm with time complexity $O(NA^2)$ has been well known to this problem. The F-F algorithm finds all possible augmenting paths from s to t with residual capacity arcs and determines bottleneck arc that has a minimum residual capacity among the paths. After completion of algorithm, you should be determine the minimum cut by combination of bottleneck arcs. This paper suggests maximum adjacency merging and compute cut value method is called by MA-merging algorithm. We start the initial value to S={s}, T={t}, Then we select the maximum capacity $_{max}c(u,v)$ in the graph and merge to adjacent set S or T. Finally, we compute cut value of S or T. This algorithm runs n-1 times. We experiment Ford-Fulkerson and MA-merging algorithm for various 8 digraph. As a results, MA-merging algorithm can be finds minimum cut during the n-1 running times with time complexity O(N).

  • Wetlands, which provide various ecological services, have been regarded as an important nature-based solution for, for example, sustainable water quality improvement and buffering of impacts from climate change. Although the importance of conserving wetlands to reduce the impacts of various perturbations (e.g., changes of land use, climate, and hydrology) has been acknowledged, the possibility of applying these efforts as a nature-based solution in a macro-scale (e.g., landscape) has been insufficient. In this study, we examine the possibility of ecological network analysis that provides an engineering solution as a nature-based solution. Specifically, we analyzed how land use change affects the structural and functional characteristics (connectivity, network efficiency, and clustering coefficient) of the ecological networks by using the ecological networks generated by multiple dispersal models of the hypothetical inhabiting species in wetlandscape. Changes in ecological network characteristics were analyzed through simultaneously removing wetlands, with two initial conditions for surface area, in the zones where land use change occurs. We set a total number of four zones of land use change with different wetland densities. All analyses showed that mean degree and network efficiency were significantly reduced when wetlands in the zones with high wetland density were removed, and this phenomenon was intensified especially when zones contained hubs (nodes with high degree). On the other hand, we observed the clustering coefficient to increase. We suggest our approach for assessing the impacts of land use change on ecological networks, and with additional analysis on betweenness centrality, we expect it can provide a nature-based engineering solution for creating alternative wetlands.
