  • In this paper, a novel compensation scheme for ac-dc pwm converters under switching device fault status has been proposed, along with an effective diagnosis method. With the proposed scheme, the pwm converter can be properly operated even when one of the switching devices of the converter is out of control, so that it may ensure the performance and reliability of pwm converters to be increased. The developed scheme is explained in theoretically and the validity is verified by the informative simulation and experimental results in detail.

  • Maximum product of spacings estimator is proposed in this paper as a competent alternative of maximum likelihood estimator for the parameters of exponentiated-Weibull distribution, which does work even when the maximum likelihood estimator does not exist. In addition, a Bayes type estimator known as generalized maximum likelihood estimator is also obtained for both of the shape parameters of the aforesaid distribution. Though, the closed form solutions for these proposed estimators do not exist yet these can be obtained by simple appropriate numerical techniques. The relative performances of estimators are compared on the basis of their relative risk efficiencies obtained under symmetric and asymmetric losses. An example based on simulated data is considered for illustration.

  • We propose a Bayesian model selection procedure for nonlinear regression models under noninformative prior. For informative prior, Na and Kim (2002) suggested the Bayesian model selection procedure through MCMC techniques. We extend this method to the case of noninformative prior. The difficulty with the use of noninformative prior is that it is typically improper and hence is defined only up to arbitrary constant. The methods, such as Intrinsic Bayes Factor(IBF) and Fractional Bayes Factor(FBF), are used as a resolution to the problem. We showed the detailed model selection procedure through the specific real data set.

  • This study is to test moderating effects of North Korean Refugees' coping styles in the causal relation between social support and psychological wellbeing and suggest policy implications for helping social adjustment of North Korean Refugees. For this study, 100 North Korean Refugees were sampled and surveyed. The analytical result of this study showed that the degree of psychological wellbeing was highest among the refugees of the entire families migration. Also, this study showed that the causal relationship between social support and psychological wellbeing was not significant, and moderating effects of emotional support and appraisal support were significant, while moderating effects of material support and informative support were not significant. In this study, we suggested some policy implications basing on this analytical results.

  • Today, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are an essential portion of modern daily life. As a promising alternative to traditional energy storage systems, they possess various advantages. This review attempts to provide the reader with an indepth understanding of the working mechanisms, current technological progress, and scientific challenges for a wide variety of lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrode nanomaterials. Electrochemical thermodynamics and kinetics are the two main perspectives underlying our introduction, which aims to provide an informative foundation for the rational design of electrode materials. Moreover, both anode and cathode materials are clarified into several types, using some specific examples to demonstrate both their advantages and shortcomings, and some improvements are suggested as well. In addition, we summarize some recent research progress in the rational design and synthesis of nanostructured anode and cathode materials, together with their corresponding electrochemical performances. Based on all these discussions, potential directions for further development of LIBs are summarized and presented.

  • In the text classification domain, labeling the training documents is an expensive process because it requires human expertise and is a tedious, time-consuming task. Therefore, it is important to reduce the manual labeling of training documents while improving the text classifier. Selective sampling, a form of active learning, reduces the number of training documents that needs to be labeled by examining the unlabeled documents and selecting the most informative ones for manual labeling. We apply this methodology to Naive Bayes, a text classifier renowned as a successful method in text classification. One of the most important issues in selective sampling is to determine the criterion when selecting the training documents from the large pool of unlabeled documents. In this paper, we propose two measures that would determine this criterion : the Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) and the entropy measure. The experimental results, using Renters 21578 corpus, show that this proposed learning method improves Naive Bayes text classifier more than the existing ones.

  • We consider two components system which have Freund's bivariate exponential model. In this case, Bayesian multiple comparisons procedure for failure rates is sug-gested in K Freund's bivariate exponential populations. Here we assume that the com-ponents enter the study at random over time and the analysis is carried out at some prespeci ed time. We derive fractional Bayes factor for all comparisons under non- informative priors for the parameters and calculate the posterior probabilities for all hypotheses. And we select a hypotheses which has the highest posterior probability as best model. Finally, we give a numerical examples to illustrate our procedure.

  • The problem we consider in this paper is more demanding than the problem of input-output linearization with state equivalence recently solved by Cheng, Isidori, Respondek, and Tarn. We request that the MIMO nonlinear system, for which the problem of input-output linearization with state-equivalence is solvable, can be decoupled. In exchange for further requirement like this, our problem produces more usable and informative results than the problem of input-output linearization with state-equivalence. We present the necessary and sufficient conditions for our problem to be solvable. We characterize each of the nonlinear systems satisfying these conditions by a set of parameters which are invariant under the group action of state feedback and transformation. Using this set of parameters, we can determine directly the unique one, among the canonical forms of decouplable and controllable linear systems, to which a nonlinear system can be transformed via appropriate state feedback and transformation. Finally, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions for our problem to be solvable with internal stability, that is, for stable decoupling.

  • The paper presents a new scheme and a support system for the analysis sof hyman errors in nuclear power plants based on a cognitive model. We discusse the problems identified in current managerial analysis, and propose a new approach that frames the description of human activities according to a human decision making modle, so that it could provide a better reconstruction of a sequence of event suspected of involving human errors. This sophistcated approach becomes practical for the field application with the support of a computerized aiding system. The model-based event re-construction method is expected to enable the analysts to produce more informative reports, which in turn heop to derive appropriate counter- measures to reduce the possibility of the analyzed human errors.
