Managing and Modeling Strategy of Geo-features in Web-based 3D GIS

  • Geo-features play a key role in object-oriented or feature-based geo-processing system. So the strategy for how-to-model and how-to-manage the geo-features builds the main architecture of the entire system and also supports the efficiency and functionality of the system. Unlike the conventional 2D geo-processing system, geo-features in 3B GIS have lots to be considered to model regarding the efficient manipulation and analysis and visualization. When the system is running on the Web, it should also be considered that how to leverage the level of detail and the level of automation of modeling in addition to the support for client side data interoperability. We built a set of 3D geo-features, and each geo-feature contains a set of aspatial data and 3D geo-primitives. The 3D geo-primitives contain the fundamental modeling data such as the height of building and the burial depth of gas pipeline. We separated the additional modeling data on the geometry and appearance of the model from the fundamental modeling data to make the table in database more concise and to allow the users more freedom to represent the geo-object. To get the users to build and exchange their own data, we devised a file format called VGFF 2.0 which stands for Virtual GIS File Format. It is to describe the three dimensional geo-information in XML(eXtensible Markup Language). The DTD(Document Type Definition) of VGFF 2.0 is parsed using the DOM(Document Object Model). We also developed the authoring tools for. users can make their own 3D geo-features and model and save the data to VGFF 2.0 format. We are now expecting the VGFF 2.0 evolve to the 3D version of SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) especially for 3D GIS on the Web.

  • To interact database data with GRID system, implementation and installation of data manipulation module which manipulates database data and its index is required. Developing a search system searching data on web-based database, and integrating it with grid system, it is possible that searching data on web and use it directly on GRID system without independent data module. So, we can build easy and effective grid system, and the system could have more flexible architecture adapting data change. In this paper, we propose a searching system which interacting web-based database with GRID systems. We integrated the searching system with a bio god system which runs virtual screening jobs. As a result, UB Grid (Universal Bio Grid) is constructed. Developer could reduce time and effort required to integrate web data to GRID system, and user could use UB Grid system easily and effectively.

  • The existing watermarking techniques for copyright protection of a digital image are fragile in geometric distortion and it is hard to detect whether it was manipulated artificially. In this paper, we proposed the new copyright protection system that can authorize a digital mage and :an embed or extract a robust watermark in a artificial manipulation in order to solve these problems. In a watermarking part, the proposed a watermarking technique embeds a watermark in a phase component after a Complex Wavelet Transform (CWT) with an original image, and a watermark is extracted from an watermarked image by stages. A copyright about an image can be insisted on than a threshold after comparing a correlation of an original watermark with an extracted watermark if large. In an authentication part of a digital image, EZW (Embedded Zerotree Wavelet) is used, and an authentication cord of an watermarked image is generated. An authentication code of an image to have been distribute to is compared with a generated authentication cord, and artificial operation isn´t than a threshold if large. The proposed copyright protection system through performance evaluation display that it was robust in geometric distortion and a artificial operation was able to be detected.

Expression of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) in Tobacco Containing Low Nicotine for the Development of Edible Vaccine

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic information for gene manipulation in potent edible tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum cv. TI 516). N. tabacum cv. TI 516 is a plant for a possible candidate to use as an edible vaccine, since it contains a low level of nicotine. The effective plant regeneration system through leaf disc culture was achieved using a MS basal medium supplemented with 0.1 mg $1^{-1}$ NAA and 0.5 mg $1^{-1}$ BA. In order to transform the N. tabacum cv. TI 516 with the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene, Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA 4404 containing the GFP gene was used. Genomic PCR confirmed the integration of the GFP gene into nuclear genome of transgenic plants. Expression of the GFP gene was identified in callus, apical meristem and root tissue of transgenic N. tabacum cv. TI 516 plants using fluorescence microscopy. Western blot analysis revealed the expression of GFP protein in the transgenic edible tobacco plants. The amount of GFP protein detected in the transgenic tobacco plants was approximately 0.16% of the total soluble plant protein (TSP), which was determined by ELISA.

Semi-domesticated and Irreplaceable Genetic Resource Gayal (Bos frontalis) Needs Effective Genetic Conservation in Bangladesh: A Review

  • Several studies arduously reported that gayal (Bos frontalis) is an independent bovine species. The population size is shrinking across its distribution. In Bangladesh, it is the only wild relative of domestic cattle and also a less cared animal. Their body size is much bigger than Bangladeshi native cattle and has prominent beef type characters along with the ability to adjust in any adverse environmental conditions. Human interactions and manipulation of biodiversity is affecting the habitats of gayals in recent decades. Besides, the only artificial reproduction center for gayals, Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI), has few animals and could not carry out its long term conservation scheme due to a lack of an objective based scientific mission as well as financial support. This indicates that the current population is much more susceptible to stochastic events which might be natural catastrophes, environmental changes or mutations. Further reduction of the population size will sharply reduce genetic diversity. In our recent investigation with 80K indicine single nucleotide polymorphism chip, the $F_{IS}$ (within-population inbreeding) value was reported as $0.061{\pm}0.229$ and the observed ($0.153{\pm}0.139$) and expected ($0.148{\pm}0.143$) heterozygosities indicated a highly inbred and less diverse gayal population in Bangladesh. Prompt action is needed to tape the genetic information of this semi-domesticated bovine species with considerable sample size and try to investigate its potentials together with native zebu cattle for understanding the large phenotypic variations, improvement and conservation of this valuable creature.

Design and Implementation of Wireless standby Power Control System for Energy Saving (에너지 절감을 위한 무선 대기전력 제어 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper implements the standby power control system composed of a master device and slave devices. The standby power is managed by cutting power supply after controlling the relay of a slave device based on the authentication of master device's RFID card. RFID interface and wireless communication module are embedded in a master device, and one master device is linked with many slave devices in wireless. Each slave device executes the operation needed in power control independently. We implements the function of manual power on/off system in a slave device, and the function of user ID enrollment by switch manipulation in a master device. Also this system can communicate bidirectionally in wireless and runs on TinyOS. The result of experiment shows that the user authentication is executed in a master device and this authenticated information is transmitted to a slave device in wireless, and standby power is cutted by controlling the relay of a slave device. Installing this system in a building or an office, we can expect energy saving.

A Dynamic Inferential Framework for Learning Geometry Problem Solving (기하 문제 학습을 위한 동적 추론 체계)

  • In spite that the main contents of mathematical and scientific learning are understanding principles and their applications, most of existing educational softwares are based on rote learning, thus resulting in limited educational effects. In the artificial intelligence research, some progress has been made in developing automatic tutors based on proving and simulation, by adapting the techniques of knowledge representation, search and inference to the design of tutors. However, these tutors still fall short of being practical and the turor, even a prototype model, for learning problem solving is yet to come out. The geometry problem-solving tutor proposed by this research involves dynamic inference performed in parallel with learning. As an ontology for composing the problem space within a real-time setting, we have employed the notions of propositions, hypotheses and operators. Then we investigated the mechanism of interactive learning of problem solving in which the main target of inference involves the generation and the test of these components. Major accomplishment from this research is a practical model of a problem tutor embedded with a series of inference techniques for algebraic manipulation, which is indispensable in geometry problem solving but overlooked by previous research. The proposed model is expected to be applicable to the design of problem tutors in other scientific areas such as physics and electric circuitry.

A Research on the character of selecting acupoints in Jangjinyopyeon(藏珍要編) (『장진요편(藏珍要編)』의 선혈특성(選穴特性)에 관한 연구)

  • Objective : Jangjinyopyeon(藏珍要編, JJYP) was published in 1894. The purpose of the research is to know the character of JJYP, and to know JJYP inherited the tradition of Chosun(朝鮮) acupuncture which put emphasis on diagnosis and cure of Jangbu(臟腑) through meridian system. Method : First, identify the bibliographic information of the Mimeograph version of Original JJYP. After then, count and classify the provision by selected acupoints. Analyzed the result in succession. Conclusion : From the research of the mimeograph version of Original JJYP, come to following conclusion. 1. The pen name of author is Songgye(松溪), which means the region of his origin. 2. JJYP used 49 acupoints in total. It covers all regular meridian system except the regular Meridian of Hand Soeum[手少陰心經] for heart organ would never be injured in Neijing(內經) 3. JJYP suggested Eight Confluent points[八脈交會穴] as major acupoints in the end of book. But actually they were selected as the acupoints of belonging Jangbu(臟腑) and various symtoms. 4. Oegwan(外關) and Sameumgyo(三陰交) were maximum frequency in selecting of all acupoints, which means JJYP value controling and covering whole body. 5. Generally, Reinforcing and reducing manipulations concentrated one way, but Hugye(後谿) used each manipulation equally, which means JJYP regards tonification or purgation highly in Hugye(後谿). 6. Most acupoints of high frequency were Nak-point[絡穴], Won-point[原穴], Hap-point[合穴], which supposed to be directly connected to Jangbu(臟腑). So, we can see JJYP continue the tradition of Chosun acupuncture which put emphasis on Jang image[藏象] of meridian.

Applying Genomic Sequence Alignment Methodology for Source Codes Plagiarism Detection (유전체 서열의 정렬 기법을 이용한 소스 코드 표절 검사)

  • The syntactic and semantic characteristics of a computer program can be represented by the keywords sequence extracted from the source code. Therefore the similarity and the difference between two programs can be clearly figured out by comparing the keyword sequences obtained from the given programs. Various methods for measuring the similarity of two different sequences have been intensively studied already in bioinformatics on biological genetic sequence manipulation. In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring the similarity of two different programs and detecting the partial plagiarism by exploiting the sequence alignment techniques. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we experimented with the actual Program codes submitted by 70 students attending a Data Structure course )tow 2001. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective and powerful than the fingerprint method which is the most commonly used for the Plagiarism detection.

Implementation of a ZigBee-based High Performance Sensor Node for the Robot Environment Platform (로봇환경플랫폼을 위한 직비 기반의 고성능 센서노드 구현)

  • In this paper, a ZigBee-based wireless sensor network is configured for the robot to effectively communicate with the environment platform where sensor nodes are implemented using high performance microcontrollers. The localization and the navigation functions are also required to the robot which performs the given task using various types of sensor information. A new type of ZigBee stack is developed using the RUM(Router Under MAC) of the Atmel Corp. and it is applied to a 32-bit ARM core microcontroller for the high performance sensor data manipulation and transmission. It is verified by experiments that the wireless sensor network consisting of developed high performance sensor nodes can be effectively used for the robot environment platform.
