  • In this paper, we examine the different viewpoints of teachers and undergraduates on middle school informatics textbook. For this research, a survey is conducted on middle school informatics teachers and undergraduates who are preparing the state examination for informatics-computer teachers. Items of the survey were chosen to investigate the level of completion on the contents and structure of the textbook and to examine overall satisfaction with the textbook. Seven items concerning the level of completion are based on national textbook authorization criteria. A t-test was performed to analyze meaningful difference in perception of textbook between the teacher and student groups. The result shows there is meaningful difference on two items which are 'compliance with informatics curriculum' and 'content selection and organization'.

  • In this paper, we propose a comparative study of Informatics subject curriculums and textbooks in middle school between Korea and England because both countries have similar national curriculums about software education which has computational thinking as objectives of education and good-qualified textbooks for teachers and students. we looked through the Informatics and Computing curriculums and textbook of both countries in order to give good reference case to Informatics textbook manufacturer. In addition, we verified the validity of this study through FGI. The results of this study will be a good case study about designing Informatics curriculum and making Informatics textbooks in middle school.

  • According to the 2007 national curriculum amendment, new 'informatics' textbooks have been used since 2010 as a textbook for middle school first graders and will eventually be used in other grades. However, only a few studies that have evaluated the 'informatics' textbooks, have been performed. What is worse is the fact that none of the evaluating tools even exist. Therefore, we propose the criteria of selecting 'informatics' textbooks in middle school. Its contents can be summarized as follows: First, this paper classifies previous studies on textbook evaluation into general criteria of selecting textbooks, method of textbook analysis based on how inquisitively students can learn and previous studies which analyzed existing secondary school 'informatics' textbooks and propose the criteria of selecting 'informatics' textbooks in middle school. Second, using the proposed selection criteria for 'informatics' textbooks and other evaluation criteria, five kinds of informatics textbooks were analyzed. Furthermore, it is expected that we can use the selection criteria as a material to choose the new 'Information science' textbooks, and to suggest alternative directions of future studies in the area of evaluating 'Information science' textbooks.

  • In this thesis, newly distributed informatics-1 textbook is analyzed according to the curriculum for middle school revised in 2007 and, as a result, a questionnaire is conducted to find solutions for early adoption of informatics-1 textbooks. The sample of this survey was limited to Kyungi province-based middle school teachers on Informatics-1. Items of the survey were chosen to explore the degree of satisfaction of teachers on the informatics-1 textbook and to discover contents requiring further necessary revision. Out of seven items concerning the satisfaction of the textbook, the item with the most positive responses was 'the consistency with the curriculum' with 95%. Also, the item with the most negative responses was 'the adequacy of contents and their organization' with 13%. In conclusion, we, based on the results from the questionnaire, proposed the introduction of various lecture materials and the training of teachers to learn new teaching methods.

  • This study is done to compare and to analyze middle school Informatics textbooks developed according to 2007 revised national curriculum. In this paper, suggestions are made for improvement on Informatics textbooks. Textbooks were analyzed based on two criteria, in framework and content, and collected data were analyzed according to Content Analysis method. As a result of analysis, a framework of textbooks showed differences in the entire construction, discipline-specific weight, content developing structure, and types of assessment, and content of textbooks showed differences in the concepts and the kinds of programming language. Six improvements in developing Informatics textbook from the results of content analysis were suggested and this will be helpful in developing the Infomatics textbook in the future.

  • This paper has analyzed contents of copyright education in Informatics textbook in middle school curriculum and has proposed ways to enhance copyright education. In this paper, we have analyzed Informatics curriculum, authorized textbook, and teacher's guide book for middle school revised in 2007 and have extracted contents and systems of copyright education in Informatics course. We examined studies on the copyright education and analyzed on the basis of interest, understanding, usage, and practice of copyright. As a result, copyright education has turned out to be focused on 2nd level of information society and information technology. We found that copyright education was necessary both directly and indirectly in various parts and levels in that it is an optional subjects. This paper suggests the possibility of copyright education in Informatics curriculum for middle school and the copyright education is expected to be reinforced.

  • In this paper, we examined informatics textbooks for middle school students in accordance with 2009 revised curriculum through conducting both content analysis and surveys. The content analysis was analyzed the composition and contents of textbooks. Survey questionnaires were based on the authorization criteria and selection standards of informatics textbooks. The content analysis demonstrated that there were discrepancies among textbooks in areas such as the total number of pages, related material, the number of core concepts introduced in each chapter, and the application of software. The survey results showed that two sections - 'Expression and Modification' and 'Text' exhibited the most positive results, and the 'Creativity' section the least. Using the findings above, we present alternative ways to improve qualities of these textbooks.

  • This study is to suggest a method of constructing Informatics textbook considering the cognitive development level of middle school learners. We developed 3 types of learning content models according to the educational objectives and activities of learners and then suggested the methods of constructing textbook. For this, we reviewed the related research results on the development characteristics and cognitive development theories of middle school students. Second, we drew instructional schemes from the pedagogic theories. Then, we suggested 3 models: 'Learning Centered on Concept'. 'Learning Centered on Investigation', and ' learning Centered on Actual Training'. We suggested construction schemes to each model and verified the adequacy using questionnaire to 30 teachers and received the positive responses from most teachers.

  • Big data is a field that has been utilized and developed in various fields in our society recently. Big data analysis techniques are frequently used to analyze various big data in various fields of politics, economy, and society to grasp various meanings hidden in the data. However, big data analysis is used some case studies of in fields of analysis of educational data, but analysis of the curriculum and direction is still inadequate. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the core concepts of middle school informatics textbooks using big data analysis techniques. Text mining was used for big data analysis for informatics textbook analysis. Through the core concepts of middle school informatics textbooks identified using this techniques, we could confirm the concepts to be emphasized in the textbooks and the possibility of using big data in the field of education.

  • From 2011, newly developed Information textbook will be given to high school students. This research investigates contents of the new Information textbook and attempts to offer improvement of the book, which were compiled according to the 2007 Revised Curriculum. This thesis aims to make a comparative analysis of the contents and structure of six Information textbook which passed the screening. The structures of six textbooks were examined under four sections, which are overall structure, relative importance in the textbook, development method, and evaluation type. Moreover, for analyzing the contents, the research investigated the number of the major concepts that are dealt in the textbooks. The results show that there are too many difficult concepts for high school students and reveals that there are big difference in the contents and construction among textbooks. This research suggests how the textbook should be revised in the light of the contents, construction, terminology, and practical training.
