Purpose : To investigate the stress degree of infertile women and its correlations with Qi-stasis. Methods : 162 women, enrolled for treatment at oriental hospital, completed Infertility Stress Scale, Stress Response Inventory and Qi-stasis questionnaire. Their demographic features and infertility-related factors were recorded. 137 infertile women and 25 normal subjects were analyzed. Results : 1. 43 infertile women(33.86%) among the sample group were diagnosed as Qi-stasis. 2. There were close score correlations among Infertility Stress Scale, Stress Response Inventory, and Qi-stasis(p=.000). 3. Experience of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), possibility of spontaneous pregnancy, coitus frequency, whether the spouse is the eldest son or not had the influences on Infertility Stress. Abortion experience had influences on stress response and Qi-stasis. 4. It was revealed that Infertile women(n=137) had significantly higher scores of 'Infertility Stress' and subscales such as 'sexual satisfaction', 'marital satisfaction', 'familial adjustment', 'social adjustment' as well than control group(n=25). Conclusion : The results provide that the stress degree of infertile women had significant correlations with Qi-stasis and show the possibilities of oriental medicine treatment for stresses of infertile women.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify dietary factors related to infertility in Korean women through a case-control study. Methods: The case group was composed of 236 women who had been diagnosed as infertility in hospital. The control group of 181 healthy women with children were recruited from local immunization centers. Socio-economic status, medical history, dietary intakes using food frequency questionnaire and stress were surveyed by interview. Anthropometric measurements were made and the causes of infertility were identified through medical records. Fasting blood samples were taken from subgroup of the subjects. Results: The mean age of infertile and control groups was 31.1 and 32.4 years, respectively and the difference was statistically significant. The mean Body Mass Index of infertile women was not significantly different from control women, however, Waist/ Hip Ratio and Triceps Skinfolds Thickness were significantly lower in infertile women than in control women. The dietary intake status was generally satisfactory in both groups. The intakes of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, retinol, vitamin B2 and niacin were lower in infertile women than in control women. The infertile women also showed lower intakes of animal foods. No differences were found between two groups in serum concentrations of albumin, hemoglobin, Fe, TIBC, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, C3, IgA, IL-2, however, infertile women showed higher levels of Zn and IgG. The stress score was higher in infertile women. Conclusions: From the results of this study, dietary factors and nutritional status do not seem to be directly related to infertility. However, the intertile women have lower nutrient intake and lower body fat content than control women. Further researches are needed according to the causes of infertility for long term to establish the relationship between dietary factors and infertility.

Objective: Irregular patterns of marital cohabitation are a common problem in upper Egypt due to employment conditions. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of irregular marital cohabitation on the quality of life and sexual function of infertile men. Methods: In total, 208 infertile men were included and divided into two groups. The first group included 134 infertile men with an irregular pattern of marital cohabitation and the second group included 74 infertile men with a regular pattern of marital cohabitation. All subjects were assessed through a clinical evaluation, conventional semen analysis, the fertility quality of life (FertiQoL) questionnaire, the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) score, and the premature ejaculation diagnostic tool (PMEDT). Results: The two groups were compared in terms of conventional semen parameters, FertiQoL, IIEF-5 score, and PMEDT. Infertile men with an irregular pattern of marital cohabitation had significantly lower subscale and total FertiQoL and IIEF-5 scores. Additionally, they had significantly higher PMEDT scores. Erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation were more common in them than in infertile men with a regular pattern of marital cohabitation. Conclusion: Irregular patterns of marital cohabitation had an adverse effect on quality of life and sexual function in infertile men.
This study was designed and carried out to describe the stress of the infertile women and identify its predictors. The subjects of this study, 131 infertile women, were in primary or secondary infertility. the were conveniently sampled out from the infertility clinics of K University Medical Center and C Hospital in Seoul. The data were collected by using the Infertility Stress Scale which consisted of 35 items with four dimensions(cognitive, affective, marital and social stress) from August to November 1994. The data were analyzed by using the pc-SAS program. The information was obtained of Mean, Standard Deviation, Frequencies, Percentile, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple comparison test and Multiple Regression. The results are as follows; 1. The Mean of the stress of the infertile women is 2.78. The Means of the stress in 4 dimensions are 3.81 in the cognitive dimension, 3.05 in the affective dimension, 2.06 in the marital adjustment dimension and 2.41 in the social adjustment dimension. 2. The predictors of the stress of the infertile women are their educational levels and subjective economic status. They explain 14.08% of total variance.
Pregnancy and delivery are the God's blessing as well as the right of all married women. But, these are agonizing events for the infertile women. Therefore, supportive nursing care for the infertile women is crucial in the process of diagnosis and treatment of infertility. The introduction of In Vitro Fertilization is a solution for infertility. But we take it serious that such socio-cultural factors as patriarchism, sex role, and motherhood are negatively influencing infertility women's experiences. Thus, nurses who take care of the infertile women need to have feministic perspectives as well as medical information, and expertise so that they could reach a comprehensive understanding on infertile women's experiences.
A total of 736 Holstein cows were examined for incidence of infertility and 57 infertile cows of them were examined for blood values. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Fifty eight heads (7.9%) of 736 Holstein cows examined were proved to be infertile and the causative disease of 58 infertile cows were diagnosed as silent heat (31.0%), repeat breeder (20.8%), dysfunction of ovary (15.5%), lutein cyst (13.8%), endometritis (8.6%), follicular cyst (5.2%), cervicitis (1.7%), pyometra (1.7%), and free-martin (1.7%). 2. Among the data of blood values of 57 infertile cows, values of total serum protein and serum calcium were remarkably lower (p 0.01) than those of normal cows. Meanwhile the unbalanced Ca/P ratio (1.1) was observed.
These experiments were carried out ot detect autoantiboies to zona pellucida in sera from infertile women using indirect ELISA and IFA and to investigate their effect on in vitro fertilization of mouse ova. In inidirect ELISA test, 12 of 116(10.3%) serum samples form infertile women gave positive reaction whereas all of 16 samples from fertile women and men were negative. Furthermore, in indirect IFA test, 17 of 116 (14.7%) serum samples from infertile women gave positive fluorescence whereas all of control sera were negative fluorescence. The fertilization rates(15.9%) of mouse eggs treated with positive sera were significantly lower than those(51.9%+71.2%) autoantibodies to zonapellucida are responsible for infertility in unexplained infertile women, presumably by perventing sperm attachment and penetration.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the perception of infertile women on the use of the national support program that provides medical expense aid to infertile couples. Methods: Thirty Korean infertile women participated in five focus groups. Data were collected from January to August 2014. After obtaining permission from the participants, each session of the focus group was audio-taped and transcribed. The responses were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: The main themes identified from the sessions with the participants were "feeling thankful for the reliable support program," "feeling happy or unhappy," "enduring inconveniences," and "hoping for a more comprehensive support service." Although most of the participants perceived the benefits of the national support service positively, they stated that the service was not comprehensive because it did not cover all the medical expenses for tests and other medical treatments. Conclusion: The benefits given to infertile couples by the program should be increased by covering all the medical expenses, expanding its criteria to include more eligible candidates, and by including special leave benefits for working women. Furthermore, it is essential to take measures for infertility prevention at the individual and national policy levels.
Purpose: This study the mediating effects of marital intimacy the relationship between depression and marital satisfaction of infertile women. Methods: 165 infertile women visiting a hospital in Gyeonggi-do and Busan, Korea from January 2016 to April 2016. The data was analyzed the SPSS WIN 22.0 program. Results: Depression, marital satisfaction, and marital intimacy averaged $1.51{\pm}.32$ (range of scale 0~3), $3.50{\pm}.56$ (range of scale 1~5), and $3.74{\pm}.65$ (range of scale 1~5), respectively. Depression had a negative correlation with marital satisfaction (r=-.361, p<.001) and marital intimacy(r=-.183, p<.001). Marital intimacy also had a positive correlation with marital satisfaction (r=.637, p<.001). Marital intimacy partial mediating effects between depression and marital satisfaction (${\beta}=.591$, p<.001). Conclusion: the intimacy of couple can alleviate the causal consequences that lead to a decrease in the marital satisfaction due to depression. Therefore, healthcare providers for infertile women should screen depressed women and help support infertile women from negative values for marriage depression. In addition, it is necessary to include interventions for maintaining and enhancing the intimacy of couples during infertility treatment.
This study was undertaken to demonstrate the relationship between oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea and minor mullerian anomalies. Hysterosalpingograms were taken in total 139 patients including 62 infertile patients with normal menstrual intrerval, 47 infertile patients with oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea and 30 tubal reanastomosis candidates with normal menstrual interval. The results were summarized as follows: 1. In unselected infertile patients, the occurrence rate of minor mullerian anomalies was 38%. 2. The occurrence rate of oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea in infertile patients with minor mullerian anomaly was significantly higher than that of infertile patients with normal uterus and the reverse was the ( ) result. 3. There was no significant difference in the occurrence rate of minor mullerian anomalies between infertile patients and tubal reanastomosis candidates with normal menstrual interval. 4. There was no immediate relationship between the degree of fundal anomaly and the duration of the menstrual intervals and/or the duration of the oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea.
