Mobile mapping system is a surveying system that use vehicle carrying various sensors as CCD camera, GPS and IMU(Inertial measurement Unit). This system capturing images of forward direction continuously while running road. Use these images, then acquire road and road facilities information as facilities position, size or maintenance condition. In this study, we organized data and each data processing steps that are needed for 3 dimensional positioning. And develop digital photogrammetry S/W easy to use and accurate for mobile mapping system.

The necessity for the precise time synchronization of measurement data from multiple sensors is widely recognized in the field of global positioning system/inertial navigation system (GPS/INS) integration. Having precise time synchronization is critical for achieving high data fusion performance. The limitations and advantages of various time synchronization scenarios and existing solutions are investigated in this paper. A criterion for evaluating synchronization accuracy requirements is derived on the basis of a comparison of the Kalman filter innovation series and the platform dynamics. An innovative time synchronization solution using a counter and two latching registers is proposed. The proposed solution has been implemented with off-the-shelf components and tested. The resolution and accuracy analysis shows that the proposed solution can achieve a time synchronization accuracy of 0.1 ms if INS can provide a hard-wired timing signal. A synchronization accuracy of 2 ms was achieved when the test system was used to synchronize a low-grade micro-electromechanical inertial measurement unit (IMU), which has only an RS-232 data output interface.

This paper proposes to improve the performance of a strap down inertial navigation system using a foot-mounted low-cost inertial measurement unit/magnetometer by configuring an attitude and heading reference system. To track position accurately and for attitude estimations, considering different dynamic constraints, magnetic measurement and a zero velocity update technique is used. A conventional strap down method based on integrating angular rate to determine attitude will inevitably induce long-term drift, while magnetometers are subject to short-term orientation errors. To eliminate this accumulative error, and thus, use the navigation system for a long-duration mission, a hybrid configuration by integrating a miniature micro electromechanical system (MEMS)-based attitude and heading detector with the conventional navigation system is proposed in this paper. The attitude and heading detector is composed of three-axis MEMS accelerometers and three-axis MEMS magnetometers. With an absolute algorithm based on gravity and Earth's magnetic field, rather than an integral algorithm, the attitude detector can obtain an absolute attitude and heading estimation without drift errors, so it can be used to adjust the attitude and orientation of the strap down system. Finally, we verify (by both formula analysis and from test results) that the accumulative errors are effectively eliminated via this hybrid scheme.

In this paper, the pose estimation method for the satellite GTB (Ground Test Bed) using vision/MEMS IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) integrated system is presented. The GTB for verifying a satellite system on the ground is similar to the mobile robot having thrusters and a reaction wheel as actuators and floating on the floor by compressed air. The EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) is also used for fusion of MEMS IMU and vision system that consists of a single camera and infrared LEDs that is ceiling landmarks. The fusion filter generally utilizes the position of feature points from the image as measurement. However, this method can cause position error due to the bias of MEMS IMU when the camera image is not obtained if the bias is not properly estimated through the filter. Therefore, it is proposed that the fusion method which uses the position of feature points and the velocity of the camera determined from optical flow of feature points. It is verified by experiments that the performance of the proposed method is robust to the bias of IMU compared to the method that uses only the position of feature points.

This paper proposes a gradation image processing method for the development of a Road Sign Recognition Platform (RReP), which aims to facilitate the rapid and accurate management and surveying of approximately 160,000 road signs installed along the highways, national roadways, and local roads in the cities, districts (gun), and provinces (do) of Korea. RReP is based on GPS(Global Positioning System), IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), INS(Inertial Navigation System), DMI(Distance Measurement Instrument), and lasers, and uses an imagery information collection/classification module to allow the automatic recognition of signs, the collection of shapes, pole locations, and sign-type data, and the creation of road sign registers, by extracting basic data related to the shape and sign content, and automated database design. Image division and merging, which were applied in this study, produce superior results compared with local binarization method in terms of speed. At the results, larger texts area were found in images, the accuracy of text recognition was improved when images had been gradated. Multi-threshold values of natural scene images are used to improve the extraction rate of texts and figures based on pattern recognition.

In the original design of K2 tank the Vertical Sensor Unit(VSU) was mounted to measure the attitude of the main gun to enhance the hit probability. In this research, as a part of efforts to reduce the cost of K2, it was theoretically simulated and evaluated to use the data from Inertial Navigation System(INS) for the calculation of the gun attitude instead of the direct measurement using VSU. It was found that the negative effect of INS approach is negligible and the elimination of VSU is technically possible and beneficial to the system.
As the elderly population gradually increases, the risk of fatal fall accidents among the elderly is increasing. One way to cope with a fall accident is to determine the fall direction before impact using a wearable inertial measurement unit (IMU). In this context, a previous study proposed a method of classifying fall directions using a support vector machine with sensor velocity, acceleration, and tilt angle as input parameters. However, in this method, the IMU signals are processed through several processes, including a Kalman filter and the integration of acceleration, which involves a large amount of computation and error factors. Therefore, this paper proposes a machine learning-based method that classifies the fall direction before impact using IMU raw signals rather than processed data. In this study, we investigated the effects of the following two factors on the classification performance: (1) the usage of processed/raw signals and (2) the selection of machine learning techniques. First, as a result of comparing the processed/raw signals, the difference in sensitivities between the two methods was within 5%, indicating an equivalent level of classification performance. Second, as a result of comparing six machine learning techniques, K-nearest neighbor and naive Bayes exhibited excellent performance with a sensitivity of 86.0% and 84.1%, respectively.

Although hazard identification is one of the most important steps of safety management process, numerous hazards remain unidentified in the construction workplace due to the dynamic environment of the construction site and the lack of available resource for visual inspection. To this end, our previous study proposed the collective sensing approach for safety hazard identification and showed the feasibility of identifying hazards by capturing collective abnormalities in workers' walking patterns. However, workers generally performed different activities during the construction task in the workplace. Thereby, an additional process that can identify the worker's walking activity is necessary to utilize the proposed hazard identification approach in real world settings. In this context, this study investigated the feasibility of identifying walking activities during construction task using Wearable Inertial Measurement Units (WIMU) attached to the worker's ankle. This study simulated the indoor masonry work for data collection and investigated the classification performance with three different machine learning algorithms (i.e., Decision Tree, Neural Network, and Support Vector Machine). The analysis results showed the feasibility of identifying worker's activities including walking activity using an ankle-attached WIMU. Moreover, the finding of this study will help to enhance the performance of activity recognition and hazard identification in construction.
Inertial navigation system has navigation errors because of the error of inertial measurement unit (IMU) and misalignment over time. In order to solve this problem, aided navigation system is performed using global navigation satellite system (GNSS), speedometer, etc. The inertial navigation system equipped with underwater vehicle mainly uses speedometer and performed aided navigation because satellite signals do not pass through underwater. There are DVL, EM-Log, and RPM in the speedometer, and the sensors are applied according to the system environment. This paper describes velocity aided navigation using RPM of inertial navigation system operating in high speed and deep water environment. In addition, we proposes an algorithm to compensate the limit of RPM with straight direction and the current velocity error. There are results of monte-calo simulation to prove performance of the proposed algorithm.
