  • This study analyzed sulfate resistance of strongly acid-resistant inorganic binder based on industrial byproducts. According to the study experiment, compared to OPC mixture, the mixture of high acid-resistant inorganic binder had excellent chemical resistance against 10% H2SO4 solution. In the case of ordinary portland cement, its sample with 28 days of immersion had severe corrosion on its mortar erosion part, and thus external appearance was damaged greatly, and compression strength decreased by around 57% and more.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a firm base for the quality improvement of high strength concrete and the development of ultra high strength concrete as well as enviromental con-servation and utilization of byproducts from industrial processing such as Fly ash and Silica fume. A comprehensive experimental study was performed to investigate the effects on the quality improvement of high strength concrete using mineral admixtures. As results, 400~500kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength and excellent flowability can be obtained if fly ash is replaced with cement in the range of 305. In case of using powder type silica fume, 600~700 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength is showed and 600~800kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength cam be obtained with liquid type silica fume. But it is necessary to increase dosage of high range water reducer for flowability using powder type silica fume. Especially, higher strength concrete cam be obtained when maximum size of coarse aggregate is lower than 25mm.

  • Environmental pollution problems due to the wastes from various industrial facilities and activities have become a serious issue. The specific problem associated with heavy metals in the environment is their accumulation in the food chain and their persistence in nature. Present work investigates the possible uses of by-products for the removal of heavy metal ions. Heavy metals used in these studies were cadmium, lead and copper. Experiments were conducted with by-products such as oyster shell and fly ash to evaluate their sorption characteristics. The results of the study indicate that oyster shell can be properly used as an adsorbent for heavy metals because of its outstanding removal rate.

  • Reclamation coal ash, which is generated as a byproduct at a coal thermal power plant is not recycled but dumped into an ash landfill disposal site. Furthermore, various byproducts and wastes have been proposed for use from the point of reduction in the environmental load. Authors have started research to develope manufacturing technology of concrete mixture design method with large amount of land reclamation coal ash. In this study an optimum mix proportion design for utilizing the reclamation coal ash and containing copper slags as an aggregate for secondary concrete products such as a wave dissipating blocks was successfully developed.

  • In this study, a novel approach to the explosive synthesis of titanium carbide (TiC) is discussed. Nonstoichiometric $TiC_x$ powder was produced via the underwater explosion of a Ti powder encapsulated within a spherical explosive charge. The explosion process, bubble formation, and synthesis process were visualized using high-speed camera imaging. It was concluded that synthesis occurred within the detonation gas during the first expansion/contraction cycle of the bubble, which was accompanied by a strong emission of light. The recovered powders were studied using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Submicron particles were generated during the explosion. An increase in the carbon content of the starting powder resulted in an increase in the carbon content of the final product. No oxide byproducts were observed within the recovered powders.

  • For over five millennia, humans have benefited from the valuable byproducts of Bombyx mori silkworms nourished on mulberry leaves and a multitude of potential applications remains available due to the diverse array of silkworm varieties. In this work, we discuss the utilization of Daehwangjam (DHJ), golden silk (GS), and Juhwangjam (JHJ), distinctive colored silks found in Korea, as chemosensors. These novel silks emit fluorescence under external stimuli and show a diminishing fluorescence intensity when exposed to HCl vapor. The considerable surface-to-volume ratio of these cocoons allows for the identification of 5 ppm, 300 ppm, and 3000 ppm HCl vapors through decreased fluorescence intensity. The results show the suitability of natural DHJ, GS, and JHJ for applications in biosensing applications.

  • In the construction industry, research on alkali activated cement using fly ash or blast furnace slag fine powder has been published in Korea and abroad as a way to reuse industrial byproducts without using cement at all and to obtain economical effects at the same time. the purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of the ratio and coefficient of hydration ratio and lime saturation degree on the strength of alkali activated slag cement by chemical quantitative analysis of alkali activated slag cement used in the management of existing portland cement. as a result, it was confirmed that the ratio and coefficient of hydration ratio and lime saturation are all within a certain range.

  • Recently, the demand for eco-friendly parts has increased to reduce materials and parts that use fossil fuels. This has exacerbated the increase of energy prices and the enforcement of regulations by environmental agencies. Currently, polylactic acid (PLA) is a solution, as a common and eco-friendly material. PLA is a biodegradable material that can replace traditional petrochemical polymers. PLA has great advantages since it is resistant to cracking and shrinkage. When it is manufactured, there are few harmful byproducts. Improvement in the brittleness characteristics is another important task to be monitored throughout the production of industrial parts. Improvement in the brittleness property of products lowers the tensile strength and tensile elasticity modulus of the parts. This study focused on the mechanical properties of 3D-printed PLA parts. Tensile tests are performed while varying the infill print parameters to evaluate the applicability of PLA in several industrial areas.

  • In this study, $CO_2$ reduction type quaternary component high fluidity concrete was produced with more than 80% reduction in cement quantity to increase the use of industrial byproducts and enhance construction performance, thereby reducing $CO_2$ emissions. Furthermore, the quality properties, and $CO_2$ reduction performance of this concrete were evaluated. As a result of the quality evaluation of quaternary component blended high fluidity concrete with $CO_2$ reduction, the target performance could be achieved with a 80% or more reduction of cement quantity by mixing a large amount of industrial byproducts. The required performance level was obtained even though the flow, dynamic, and durability characteristics decreased a little compared to conventional mix. In addition, to analyze the $CO_2$ reduction performance of quaternary component blended high fluidity concrete with $CO_2$ reduction, the life cycle assessment (LCA) of the concrete was performed and the results showed that compared to the conventional mix, the carbon emissions decreased by 62.2% and the manufacturing cost by 24.5%.
