  • Korea is presently the leading country in global desalination industry and has been investing a large amount of money and human resources in development of new core technologies to increase its' share of global market. In this paper, we reviewed world-wide trends of the advanced water industry and outlined various seawater desalination technologies developed so far. We also made some analysis on the directions and results of the government-lead R&D sponsorship in the field of seawater-freshening technology. Present studies showed that we need an institutional strategy to help domestic companies guarantee the credibility of the technologies developed by themselves based upon their experience of plant operation. Futhermore, strategic R&D programs to develope original technologies and localization of key components for desalination plants should be preceded in the near future.

  • Vocational education needs to be transformed to cultivate talents with diverse fusion competencies, which is in line with the recent changes that have become a part of the complex technological developments in the 4th Industrial Revolution. Therefore, it is very important for college graduates to obtain employment skills as they are required to prepare for careers within the complex environments of future societies. With the transition to the Internet of Things (IoT)-based control in the manufacturing industry, the development of technological education and related training programs is required to cultivate practical talents for students who have acquired not only the information on existing programmable logic controller (PLC)-based technology, but also that on embedded programming technology. Therefore, to develop an NCS-based education program for analog signal processing to ensure that programming can easily be learned for cultivating practical talent, this study summarizes the opinions of field experts, selects the appropriate NCS competency unit, and designs an adequate technology education training program.

  • The purpose of this research were to develop program of elementary school technology education using history of technology and to learn about its effect. In order to accomplish the purpose of the research, we developed the program by referring to various records and perform the qualitative experiment study through several questionnaire, pictures and materials, to learn about the program effect. The research took the mixed-model design, consisted of collection of quantitative data by Likert scale and collection of qualitative data including the open-ended questions. And the research results were as below. First, development of elementary school technology education program using history of technology was developed as program for 12 hours, 12 themes, for the elementary levels. Second, seeing the result of program of elementary school technology education using history of technology, the program for history of technology for the primary school students, a majority of answers showed high satisfaction about the program, giving answers such as 'I want to do it again following hands on minds on activity.' Third, according to the analysis on the qualitiative evidence of the program, students were found to take pictures with hands on minds on activity camera obscura with much interest and curiosity. Many students are seen to complete the task on their own with a great a look of self-satisfaction, understanding the principle of camera.

  • In response to the increasing global competition for technological supremacy to address climate change, it is crucial to develop workforce development programs in the field of climate technology to accumulate the national technological capabilities. However, these programs are rarely monitored and evaluated, and research related to monitoring and evaluation in the field of climate technology workforce development is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of workforce development programs in hydrogen energy and policy sectors on students' R&D capabilities and career aspirations in these sectors. The survey and focus group interviews with beneficiaries revealed that individual students' R&D capabilities and career confidence improved, and group-level R&D capabilities were also enhanced, and students felt greater appreciation on the significance of climate technology. The results of this study suggest that the necessary R&D capabilities to train R&D workforce in climate technology have been developed, but more measures are required to promote career development in this field.

  • The development of the electrical, electronic, and telecommunication industries has increased the share of electricity in total energy consumption. With the enforcement of the Act on the Promotion of the Development, Use, and Diffusion of New and Renewable Energy in 2021, the mandatory supply ratio of new and renewable energy is expected to expand, and the amount of waste cables generated in the stage of replacing and discarding cables used in the industry is also expected to increase. The purpose of this study was to quantify the environmental burden of waste cable recycling through the life cycle assessment (LCA) method. The results showed that the higher the amount of glue contained in the waste cable, the greater was the amount of fine dust and greenhouse gases generated. In addition, by assigning weights to 10 environmental burden items, it was confirmed that the marine aquatic eco-toxicity potential (MAETP) and human toxicity potential (HTP) had the greatest environmental burden. The main causes were identified as heptane and ethanol, which were the glue contained in the waste cable and the cleaning solutions used to remove them. Therefore, it is necessary to refrain from using glue in the cable production process and reduce the environmental burden by reducing the use of waste cable cleaning solutions used in the recycling process or using alternative materials.

  • In the multi-pass shape drawing process, it is important to design the intermediate dies for producing sound products. Up to now, the design of the intermediate dies is mainly carried out by the industrial experts based on their experience. In this study, a design program was developed to design the intermediate dies for multi-pass shape drawing process. The program was programmed by using VisualLISP. In this program the intermediate dies can be designed by using the initial material shape and the final product shape. In order to verify the effectiveness, the program was applied to design the intermediate dies of multi-pass shape drawing for producing four teeth spline and gun slide. Finally, FE analysis and shape drawing experiment were performed to verify the effectiveness of the designed intermediate dies. As a result, it was possible to produce the drawn products with the required dimensional accuracy.

  • The process of verifying design concepts and ideas by producing real or equivalent model is essential in the product development process. Against this background, the purpose of this study is to consider the case of developing subjects that can systematically cultivate the ability to produce model from the basic stage to a certain level or higher, focusing on design engineering majors. As a theoretical consideration for this, prior studies related to making such as modeling or prototyping in related areas and majors such as industrial design are considered, followed by Bloom's revised taxonomy model and Hioshi Ishikawa's industrial design program as a methodological consideration for curriculum development. Finally, by applying this, we propose a new course that includes a lecture plan corresponding to the 16th week of learning, which is a general semester of university education. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that producing a physical model was still essential for the development of a new design, and accordingly, it was also necessary to establish a systematic curriculum suitable for the major area. Since the scope of this study extends to the development of subjects, in subsequent studies, it is necessary to consider the contents such as verification and reflection of the utility as competency education through actual application and suggestion of improved subject design.
