  • This study determined the optimal positions of the movable steering wheel and pedal systems of industrial vehicle by various body dimensions. The position of objects and starting driving posture were measured by Martin-type anthropometer and goniometer. The X, Y and Z axis of movable steering wheel and pedal systems were measured horizon distance from right side to left side, horizon distance from front side to rear side and vertical distance from floor to ceiling. During the experiment in order to exclude learning effectiveness with forklift driving, 27 subjects who had male not experiences in driving a forklift used in the experiment. The relationship between the position of steering wheel and driver's posture with body dimensions was analyzed by using correlation relation and paired comparison t-test based on the measured data. The pedal location in X and Z axises was not related with various body dimensions. Also, the steering wheel was different among the angles of the right elbow and shoulder depending on the various body dimensions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of using an infrared sensor to measure the body temperature of a sow. We first conducted experiments on three pigs by using three infrared sensors and one indoor temperature sensor. Methods: The three infrared sensors were installed inside our model house and were used to take temperature measurements per second of the backs of the pigs. While feeding, the temperatures of the backs of the pigs were measured at distances of 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm from the infrared sensors. Results: We concluded that the relation between the temperature of the pigs' backs and the indoor temperature was y =0.549x + 18.459 at a measuring distance of 30 cm. The relation was y = 0.645x + 15.461 for a distance of 20 cm and y = 0.760x + 11.913 for a distance of 10 cm. We found high correlation between the indoor temperature and the temperature of the pigs' backs. Conclusions: It is possible to use an infrared thermometer to monitor the temperature of pigs' backs. This system seems to be feasible and effective in monitoring pig temperature. The use of an infrared thermometer will also make daily monitoring easy. In later experiments, the possibility of developing a system that can determine if an error can be corrected by using infrared sensor is explored by considering humidity variables.

  • In this paper, I advocate interactive model which treats science and technology as distinguishable subcultures each with their own bodies of lore and competence against the traditonal hierachical model which treats technology as applied science. For engineering science which is a component in technology as knowledge, I count design as the core part of engineering and discuss the characteristic of engineering design. I also critically assess the models of technological knowledge change, Khunian model and variation-selection model to understand the relation between science and technology. I propose a model that science and technology interaction is mediated interaction. I only outline the plausibility of this model. Industrial research is a modern form of the interaction between science and technology. I discuss Reich who focused on the broad background of industrial research and MeyerThurow who has microperspective in industrial research. The conclusion I draw from the discussion, is that through industiral research, the science-technology interaction become more structured and autonomous, and the scientists and engineers become simply patrs of the structure of industrial research rather than the personal subject.

  • This paper is a follow up to the previous study which reveals that smartphone users are divided into three subcategories according to their usage characteristics. In this paper, these groups are called as 'general', 'entertainment', and 'work-assistant', taking into account their respective characteristics. The 'general' is a group whose smartphone usage characteristics are not focused on a specific purpose, the 'entertainment' is focused on music, internet, SNS, picture, and e-banking, and the 'work-assistant' is on work, GPS, diary. Inter-relation between the importance and satisfaction for the purchase determinants to the groups is investigated. In addition, Kano analysis of quality attributes is also performed, which includes quality type, satisfaction/dissatisfaction index, and PCSI (Potential Customer Satisfaction Improvement) index. The analysis result are as follows. Firstly, inter-relation between importance and satisfaction differs by user group. 'Internet', 'Ease of use', and 'Performance' purchase determinants are evaluated as competitive determinants in 'work-assistant' user group. Secondly Kano quality types of quality characteristics also differs by user group. 'Application' was classified as an attractive (A) types to 'entertainment' group and so on. 'Internet' 'Failure/Bug', 'Touch response rate' and 'Charging' are located in 'Nice' Region of S-PCSI Diagram and have to be considered as strategic quality characteristics. The results of this study is expected to give some helps in establishing a customer tailored quality strategy.

  • Cast AZ91 and extruded AM50 alloys were isothermally heated as solid/liquid coexistent temperatures, and semi-solid formed into sheets. Mold filling ability of semi-solid slurry with different liquid fractions was investigated in relation to process variables such as injection speed and mold temperature. Relatively uniform distribution of solid particle size and liquid fraction were observed throughout the semi-solid formed sheet. AZ91 alloy sheets were also manufactured by conventional die casting and compared with the semi-solid formed. It was found that the surface was more smooth and the dimensional accuracy was higher in case of the semi-solid formed.

  • This paper developed an operating software for the manufacturing cell of a model plant. The model plant, which was manufactured by Fishertechnik, consists of an assembly cell, a machining cell, and supplementary material handling equipments. Each I/O module of the model plant communicates with the INTERBUS controller devices via High-level Language Interface(HLI). The machining center has two machining cells, which consists of 4 machines respectively, two 3-axis portal transporters, and a rail guided vehicle(RGV). The Petri-Net was used to investigate the dynamics of each machining cell, e.g., the relation of material handling equipments and machines. The operating software was analyzed and designed by Object Oriented Technique. The software was implemented using Delphi 3.0 under Windows 95/NT operating system.

  • Much of previous attention on researches of the decision tree focuses on the splitting criteria and optimization of tree size. Nowadays the quantity of the data increase and relation of variables becomes very complex. And hence, this comes to have plenty number of unnecessary node and leaf. Consequently the confidence of the explanation and forecasting of the decision tree falls off. In this research report, we propose some decision tree algorithms considering the interaction of predictor variables. A generic algorithm, the k-1 Algorithm, dealing with the interaction with a combination of all predictor variable is presented. And then, the extended version k-k Algorithm which considers with the interaction every k-depth with a combination of some predictor variables. Also, we present an improved algorithm by introducing control parameter to the algorithms. The algorithms are tested by real field credit card data, census data, bank data, etc.

  • For convenient business process modeling we propose a mathematical approach to obtain appropriate process structures. In this paper, we define business process structural constraints, on which basis, using Social Network Analysis (SNA), we analyze the frequency of handover occurrences among performers in social network. We here present, therefrom, a new, mathematical approach to business process modeling that proceeds by identifying the social relations among activities.

  • In recent years, studies about multitasking becomes more important. During multitasking, operators can feel frustration when they are interrupted during the task and frustration can affect operator's emotional state and performance. However there is no research on measuring the frustration quantitatively in multitasking environment. In this paper, we suggested quantitative measurement of frustration during multitasking. In order to measure the frustration, we made a mathematical representation with emotional decay model and the initial intensity of frustration based on cognitive closure theory. The amount of initial intensity could be represented as the ratio of actual remaining time to expected remaining time. By the experiment, we measured the frustration during the experiment and compared this values with values of frustration dimension of NASA-TLX. Finally we got the linear regression model with a good accuracy ($R^2=0.986$). This study contributes to measuring the emotion quantitatively by the relation of expected and actual remaining time in multitasking environment.
