  • The rhizoma of Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae) has been used as the treatment of body fluid deficiency, dryness symptoms and hyper glycemia. To study effects on acute renal failure of P. odorati rhizoma, urinary volume, urinary electrolytes and serum factors associated with renal dysfunction were measured in $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure rats. It was revealed that its ether ex. had significant diuretic effects, regulated hypoelectrolytes$(Na^+,\;K^+,\;Cl^-)$ and inhibited the increase of creatinine, BUN in acute renal failure rats. From the ether ex. which was more effective than MeOH ex., three lipophilic compounds were isolated and elucidated hydrocarbon(l), ${\beta}-sitosteryl$ stearate(2), ${\beta}-sitosterol$(3). The ${\beta}-sitosteryl$ stearate(2) were isolated from Polygonatum sp. at first.

  • We present proton-induced single event effects (SEEs) and γ-ray-induced total ionizing dose (TID) data for 1 Gbit lowpower double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory (LPDDR SDRAM) fabricated on a 5 μm epitaxial layer (54 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology). We compare our radiation tolerance data for LPDDR SDRAM with those of general DDR SDRAM. The data confirms that our devices under test (DUTs) are potential candidates for space flight applications.

  • This study was designed to investigate the hyperlipidemia-healing effect of water extract from Iksukangjiryung, it was performed on the hyperlipidemia of rats induced by Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet. We prepared two types of hyperlipidemia model in rats induced by Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet. The amount of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, lipid peroxide, glutathione and the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) were measured. The water extract from Iksukangjiryung showed significant decreasing effects on total cholesterol, LDL- cholesterol, triglyceride, lipid peroxide in the both model. And it showed significant increasing effects on the activity of SOD in both model and amount of glutathione in Triton WR-1339 model. These results suggest that water extract from Iksukangjiryung has healing efficacy on hyperlipidemia induced by Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet.

  • In order to study if Glycyrrhizae Radix (GR) has protective effects on hepatotoxicity of acetaminophen in mouse, one of the species which are sensitive to acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity, effects of GR on liver weight to body weight ratio, serum alanine and aspartate transaminase (ALT and AST) activities, hepatic UDP-GT2 activity, and histopathologic changes were determined in acetaminophen-treated mice. Liver weight to body weight ratio and UDP-GT2 activity in mouse liver were not altered by GR. However, GR pretreatment lowered serum ALT and AST activities by 77% and 90% respectively, and diminished the degree of centrilobular necrosis caused by acetaminophen in liver as determined by histopathologic observation. These results suggest a possible protective effect of GR against the acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in mice.

  • We investigated effects of methanol extract of Aloe vera on anticancer drugs(cisplatin, mitomycin C, 5-fluorouracil)-induced growth inhibition in p388, L1210, HCT-15, SK-HepG-1 as cancer cell lines and mouse splenocytes as a normal cell by MTT assay, respectively. We also examined the effects of aloe extract and mitomycin C on the mitogen(Con, A, LPS)-induced splenocyte proliferation. Aloe extract(0.25 mg/m , 1.25 mg/m , 2.5 mg/m , 5.0 mg/m ) showed dose-dependently selective cytotoxicity against the cancer cell lines. In contrast, Aloe extract increased the growth and proliferation of the normal mouse splenocytes. The combination of aloe extract with anticancer drugs showed an additive effect for the cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines. However, that combination reduced clealy the anticancer drugs-induced toxicity against the normal mouse splenocytes.

  • Motilitone$^{(R)}$ (DA-9701) is a new herbal drug that was launched for the treatment of functional dyspepsia in December 2011 in Korea. The heterogeneous symptom pattern and multiple causes of functional dyspepsia have resulted in multiple drug target strategies for its treatment. DA-9701, a compound consisting of a combination of Corydalis Tuber and Pharbitidis Semen, has being developed for treatment of functional dyspepsia. It has multiple mechanisms of action such as fundus relaxation, visceral analgesia, and prokinetic effects. Furthermore, it was found to significantly enhance meal-induced gastric accommodation and increase gastric compliance in dogs. DA-9701 also showed an analgesic effect in rats with colorectal distension induced visceral hypersensitivity and an antinociceptive effect in beagle dogs with gastric distension-induced nociception. The pharmacological effects of DA-9701 also include conventional effects, such as enhanced gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit. The safety profile of DA-9701 is also preferable to that of other treatments.

  • This study investigated the effects of Siegesbeckia glabrescens, an antihypertensive remedy, on the contraction evoked by phenylephrine and KCl in isolated rat thoracic arata, and also analyzed antioxidative status in vitro. Siegesbeckia glabrescens revealed dose-dependent relaxation on phenylephrine(PE)/KCl-induced arterial contraction and more markedly on PE-induced contraction. Siegesbeckia glabrescens reduced malondialdehyde(MDA)levels, Phosphatidyl choline-liposome(PC-OOH) contents, linoleic acid-induced lipid peroxidation and exerted 1,1-diphenyl-2- picryl-hydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenging effect, in vitro. These results indicated that Siegesbeckia glabrescens doesn't relaxe artery through a blocking α-adrenergic receptor and calcium channel mediated by voltage-operated calcium channel, and it s antioxidative effects may be involved in endothelium-dependent relaxation of arteries via vascular protective properites. • In order to elucidate the toxic mechanism of neurotoxical damage and neuroprotective effect of Jangwon-hwan(Zhuangyuan-wan) water extract, this experiment was performed. Neurotoxic effects of xanthine oxidase/hypoxanthine(XO/HX) were examined by MTT and NR assay, neuroprotective effects of Jangwon-hwan(Zhuangyuan-wan) water extract were examined by neurofilament enzymeimmuno assay(EIA). XO/HX induced an increase in cell viability, and a decrease in the amount of neurofilament on cultured mouse cerebral cortical neurons in dose-dependent manner. In neuroprotective effect of herb medicine, Jangwon-hwan(Zhuangyuan-wan) water extract increased the amount of neurofilament on cultured mouse cerebral cortical neurons damaged by XO/HX. From the results, it is suggested that XO/HX showed toxic effect in cultured mouse cerebral cortical Neurons and Jangwon-hwan(Zhuangyuan-wan) water extract is very effective in the prevention of neurotoxicity induced by XO/HX.
