Smart City, a key application area of the AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things), provides various services in safety, security, and healthcare sectors through location tracking and location-based services. an IPS (Indoor Positioning System) is required to implement location-based services, and wireless communication technologies such as WiFi, UWB (Ultra-wideband), and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) are being applied. BLE, which enables data transmission and reception with low power consumption, can be applied to various IoT devices such as sensors and beacons at a low cost, making it one of the most suitable wireless communication technologies for indoor positioning. BLE utilizes the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) to estimate the distance, but due to the influence of multipath fading, which causes variations in signal strength, it results in an error of several meters. In this paper, we conducted research on a path loss model that can be applied to BLE IPS for proximity services, and confirmed that optimizing the free space propagation loss coefficient can reduce the distance error between the Tx and Rx devices.

Recently, Ubiquitous computing technology is increasing necessity for object recognition and a location tracking technology to meet various applications. The location tracking technology is the fundamental to the Context-Aware of users in Ubiquitous environment and its efficiency has to be improved using IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee used in current infra such as ubiquitous sensor network. But because the IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee protocol has limitation to apply location tracking technology such as ToA and TDoA, Zone-based Location Tracking technology using RSSI is needed. In this paper suggests RSSI-based 802.15.4 ZigBee local positioning protocol to support a positioning tracking service in Ubiqutous environment. And Zone-based location tracking system is designed for actual the indoor location tracking service.

Recently location based services is being expanded into the indoor service that can not access to the outdoor location informations, such as GPS. Thus, the research and development of an indoor positioning system with BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) iBeacon technology has expanded. However, RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) that is used as the distance information between the terminal and for positioning iBeacon signal has a problem in that distortion occurs, information such as the signal attenuation and the delay due to the characteristics of radio waves. In this paper, we propose a reliable method of verifying iBeacon signal with the signal distortion problems for reliable indoor positioning systems.

This paper presents the method for location estimation with obstacle tracking method. A laser scanner is used to implement the system, and we assume that the map information is known. We matches the measurement of the laser scanner to estimate the location of the robot by using sequential monte carlo (SMC) method. After estimating the robot's location, the pose of obstacles are detected and tracked, hence, we can predict the collision risk of them. Finally, we present the experiment results to verify the proposed method.
We propose ID-exchange protocol for Connectionless Location-Awareness Service (CLAS) to locate mobile nodes in indoor sensor network. When adapting location-awareness service to sensor network, the target system must be designed in accordance with various metrics which reflect the system requirement. We especially consider sustainability of the existing service which has been provided for its original purpose, such as environmental monitoring. The detailed meaning of sustainability here is that, even if location-awareness service is newly added to the existing service, the system must be assured to retain a stable network condition, and to deal with newly caused traffic properly. The CLAS ID-exchange protocol is especially designed for fixture and mobile nodes communication to achieve these properties. The protocol operates on 802.15.4 MAC layer to make mobile node work independently of the procedure to build routing table of fixture node, so a stable routing condition can be achieved even if there are many mobile nodes. Moreover, the dedicated frequency channel is assigned only for this protocol, so that traffic caused by location-awareness service can be distributed to another channel. A real system adapting the protocol was implemented to monitor fire and authorities' positions. We verified the overhead and elapsed time for location-awareness. The result shows the proposed protocol has a high performance in detecting speed, traffic distribution, and stability of overall network.

In this paper, we propose a novel positioning system for indoor navigation which helps a user navigate easily to desired destinations in an unfamiliar indoor environment using his mobile phone. The system requires only the user's mobile phone with its basic equipped sensors such as a camera and a compass. The system tracks user's positions and orientations using a vision-based approach that utilizes $360^{\circ}$ panoramic images captured in the environment. To improve the robustness of the vision-based method, we exploit a digital compass that is widely installed on modern mobile phones. This hybrid solution outperforms existing mobile phone positioning methods by reducing the error of position estimation to around 0.7 meters. In addition, to enable the proposed system working independently on mobile phone without the requirement of additional hardware or external infrastructure, we employ a modified version of a fast and robust feature matching scheme using Histogrammed Intensity Patch. The experiments show that the proposed positioning system achieves good performance while running on a mobile phone with a responding time of around 1 second.

An intelligent home network system using low-power and low-cost sensor nodes was designed and implemented. In Intelligent Home Network System, active home appliances control is composed of RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) based user indoor location tracking, dynamic multi-hop routing, and learning integration remote-control. Through the remote-control learning, home appliances can be controlled in wireless network environment. User location information for intelligent service is calculated using RSSI based Triangle measurement method, and then the received location information is passed to Smoothing Algorithm to reduce error rate. In order to service Intelligent Home Network, moreover, the sensor node is designed to be held by user. The gathered user data is transmitted through dynamic multi-hop routing to server, and real-time user location & environment information are displayed on monitoring program.
