  • This paper is concerned with Korean students' attitudes towards robots, presenting two survey studies. The first study was concerned with a group of college students, taking the perspective of international comparison. Data were collected by administering an online survey, where 106 volunteer students had participated. In the survey, the Negative Attitude towards Robot Scale(NARS) was adopted to compare the Korean students' scores with those of multi-national groups (U.S.A, Germany, Netherland, Japan, Mexico, and China) who responded to the same scale in Bartneck et al.'s research. The analysis of the data reveals that Korean students tend to be more concerned about social impacts that robots might bring to future society and are very conscious about the uncertain influences of robots on human life. The second study investigated factors that may affect K-12 students' attitudes towards robots, with survey data garnered from 298 elementary, middle, and high school students. The data were analyzed by the method of multiple regression analysis to test the hypothesis that a student's gender, age, the extent of interest in robots, and the extent of experiences with robots may influence his or her attitude towards robots. The hypothesis was partially supported in that variables of a student's gender, age, and the extent of interest in robots were statistically significant with regard to the attitude variable. Given the results, this paper suggests three points of discussions to better understand Korean students' attitudes towards robots: social and cultural context, individual differences, and theory of mind.

  • This study aims at examining how male college students' extent of mass media exposure affects their sociocultural attitude toward appearance and appearance orientation. It also investigates how these variables show difference depending on the individual's self-efficacy. For the study, data were collected from 397 male students by means of stratified random sampling. The results are as follows: 1. Male college students 'sociocultural attitude toward appearance was shown in two factors of appearance internalization and appearance awareness. Appearance orientation was shown in two factors of interest in appearance and interest in body weight. 2. Male college students were exposed to mass media in order of videos, movies, TV entertainment shows, music and movie magazines. The influence of video media was strong. 3. Male college students' extent of mass media exposure exerted indirect influence through sociocultural attitude toward appearance rather than exerting direct influence on appearance orientation. 4. Male college students' appearance orientation varied depending on the extent of self-efficacy, and higher self-efficacy showed higher appearance orientation and appearance attitude. Especially the group with higher self-efficacy showed higher appearance attitude when the extent of exposure to mass media increased.

  • Maritime tourism destinations need to improve image as well as enhance competitiveness through development of new marine tourism attraction due to the decrease of the number of passengers. The maritime city is trying to combine dynamic marine leisure activities as an alternative. For this purpose, it is possible to realize clear marine tourism activation policy and improve the identity of local community through the accurate analysis of the interest of the stakeholder groups of local residents in Songjeong beach in Busan. In this study, we first analyzed the language network based on the expression language related to the conflict between the stakeholders of Songjeong beach. Second, we analyzed the individual characteristics of the structure of conflict frames of stakeholders and suggested solutions by comparing the differences and similarities between perception frames of conflict parties. Third, we distinguish and compare differences of perception among the conflict parties through the detailed frame type. Based on the relationship structure between the detailed frame types of the conflict parties, we suggested an alternative for conflict resolution by restructuring the conflicts and negative perceptions among the stakeholders.

  • Building footprint extraction is an active topic in the domain of remote sensing, since buildings are a fundamental unit of urban areas. Deep convolutional neural networks successfully perform footprint extraction from optical satellite images. However, semantic segmentation produces coarse results in the output, such as blurred and rounded boundaries, which are caused by the use of convolutional layers with large receptive fields and pooling layers. The objective of this study is to generate visually enhanced building objects by directly extracting the vertices of individual buildings by combining instance segmentation and keypoint detection. The target keypoints in building extraction are defined as points of interest based on the local image gradient direction, that is, the vertices of a building polygon. The proposed framework follows a two-stage, top-down approach that is divided into object detection and keypoint estimation. Keypoints between instances are distinguished by merging the rough segmentation masks and the local features of regions of interest. A building polygon is created by grouping the predicted keypoints through a simple geometric method. Our model achieved an F1-score of 0.650 with an mIoU of 62.6 for building footprint extraction using the OpenCitesAI dataset. The results demonstrated that the proposed framework using keypoint estimation exhibited better segmentation performance when compared with Mask R-CNN in terms of both qualitative and quantitative results.
