Protection of Chocolate Products from Indian Meal Moth by Adding Cinnamon Extract to the Adhesive on the Wrapping

  • 초콜렛 포장에 스티커를 붙이기 위해 사용되는 접착물에 계피(Cinnamonum cassia Blume) 추출물을 혼합하는 것은 화랑곡나방(Plodia interpunctella Hubner)에 의한 침입으로부터 초콜렛 제품을 보호하기 위한 효과적인 한 방법이다. 처리농도별 제품을 개별적으로 투입한 비선택 실험에서 0.02와 0.025%의 계피 추출물을 처리한 포장지로 포장된 초콜렛 제품은 $28.1^{\circ}C$와 70-75%의 실험 조건에서 30일까지 화랑곡나방이 침입하지 않았으나, 계피 추출물이 첨가되지 않은 포장은 화랑곡나방에 의해 침입되었다. 처리농도별 제품을 혼합 투입한 선택 실험에서 0.02와 0.025%의 계피 추출물을 처리한 포장지로 포장된 초콜렛 제품은 $28.1^{\circ}C$와 70-75%의 실험 조건에서 60일까지 화랑곡나방에 의해 침입받지 않았는데 반해, 계피 추출물이 첨가되지 않은 제품은 화랑곡나방에 의해 침입을 받았다. 제품의 계피향 흡착 유무를 알아보기 위해 실시한 패널 테스트 결과 포장지에 계피 추출물을 처리하여도 제품에 향이 흡착되지 않아 소비자의 선택에 영향을 미치지 않을 것이라 판단되었다.

Photogrammetric Analysis of Attractiveness in Indian Faces

  • Background The objective of this study was to assess the attractive facial features of the Indian population. We tried to evaluate subjective ratings of facial attractiveness and identify which facial aesthetic subunits were important for facial attractiveness. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted of 150 samples (referred to as candidates). Frontal photographs were analyzed. An orthodontist, a prosthodontist, an oral surgeon, a dentist, an artist, a photographer and two laymen (estimators) subjectively evaluated candidates' faces using visual analog scale (VAS) scores. As an objective method for facial analysis, we used balanced angular proportional analysis (BAPA). Using SAS 10.1 (SAS Institute Inc.), the Turkey's studentized range test and Pearson correlation analysis were performed to detect between-group differences in VAS scores (Experiment 1), to identify correlations between VAS scores and BAPA scores (Experiment 2), and to analyze the characteristic features of facial attractiveness and gender differences (Experiment 3); the significance level was set at P=0.05. Results Experiment 1 revealed some differences in VAS scores according to professional characteristics. In Experiment 2, BAPA scores were found to behave similarly to subjective ratings of facial beauty, but showed a relatively weak correlation coefficient with the VAS scores. Experiment 3 found that the decisive factors for facial attractiveness were different for men and women. Composite images of attractive Indian male and female faces were constructed. Conclusions Our photogrammetric study, statistical analysis, and average composite faces of an Indian population provide valuable information about subjective perceptions of facial beauty and attractive facial structures in the Indian population.

인도산 및 아프리카산 식물체 추출물의 장내세균에 대한 생육억제 반응 (Growth-inhibitory Responses of Human Intestinal Bacteria to Extracts from Indian and African Plants)

  • 31과 50종 인도산 식물체 84 시료와 12파 20종 아프리카산 식물체 27 시료의 메탄을 조추출물의 5종 장내세균(Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli)에 대한 생육억제활성을 in vitro 혐기조건하에서 여지확산법으로 검정한 결과 억제활성은 공시세균과 식물체의 종류 및 부위에 따라 달리 나타났다. 인도산 식물체 시료중, Cymbopogon citratus 전부위, Ocimum basilicum 전부위, Madhuca indica 꽃 및 Aegle marmelos 잎 추출물이 Cl. perfringens에 대하여 강한 생육저해활성을 나타낸 반면, O. basilicum 전부위 추출물은 E. coli에 대하여 중간정도의 생육저해활성을 보였다. 그러나, 이들 식물체들은 공시 유산균의 생육에는 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이러한 결과로 부터 이들 열대식물들의 약리학적인 작용을 일부 설명할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Biodegradation of toluene vapor by evaporative cooler model based biofilter

  • The biodegradation of toluene vapor was investigated using a new type of biofilter equipped with a laboratory-scale evaporative cooler model packed with wood wool fibers (area: $360cm^2$). For the purpose of this study, the biofilter system was inoculated with Pseudomonas sp. RSST (MG 279053). The performance of this biofilter, assessed in terms of toluene removal efficiency (and elimination capacity), was as high as 99 % at a loading rate of $6g/h{\cdot}m^2$. The toluene removal efficiency decreased in an exponential manner with the increase in the loading rate. The cooler model-based biofilter was able to remove more than 99 % of toluene using Pseudomonas sp. RSST (MG 279053) as an effective inoculum. This biofilter is designed to operate under batch conditions for the removal of toluene in confined environments (e.g., automotive plants, boiler rooms in manufacturing facilities, and offshore drilling platforms).

Lead Induced Organic Acid Exudation and Citrate Enhanced Pb Uptake in Hydroponic System

  • The influence of Pb-citrate complex formation on Pb uptake and the effect of Pb on organic acid exudation were investigated using four plant species, viz., sunflower (Helianthus annuus L), Indian mustard (Brassica juncea), canola (Brassica napus) and vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) under hydroponic conditions. Seedlings were exposed to different levels of Pb and Pb-citrate for 24 hrs and subsequently Pb distributions in plant shoot, root and hydroponic solution were measured. The dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration generally decreased as the concentration of Pb in the hydroponic solution increased. In contrast to DOC, the total organic acid concentrations exuded from Indian mustard roots significantly increased (424 to 6656 mg $kg^{-1}$) with increased Pb treatment, implying that exuding organic acids were involved in Pb accumulation in Indian mustard. The complexation of Pb with citrate enhanced Pb accumulation in the above ground portions. Lead concentration in Indian mustard increased from 2.05 mg $kg^{-1}$ to 6.42 mg $kg^{-1}$ when the concentration of citrate in solution increased from 0 to 50 mg $L^{-1}$. This result showed enhanced translocation of Pb from root to shoot with observation of transfer coefficient ($K_t$) increase from 2.03E-3 to 5.72E-3.

  • 이 글은 현전하는 인도 최초의 연극론서인 "나띠야 샤스뜨라"의 규정을 중심으로 인도의 전통연극과 무용에 계승되어 온 신체표현기법인 앙기까 아비나야의 전통성과 정체성을 고찰한다. 이를 위해 마르기와 데시, 나띠야다르미와 로까다르미의 양식구분 개념, 아비나야의 분류, 앙기까 아비나야의 의의와 중요성, 기원과 형성과정, 범주와 종류, 계통성과 지역적 차이를 살펴본다.

  • In this paper, a pair of Wolfe type nondifferentiable sec-ond order symmetric minimax mixed integer dual problems is formu-lated. Symmetric and self-duality theorems are established under $\eta_1$-bonvexity/$\eta_2$-boncavity assumptions. Several known results are obtained as special cases. Examples of such primal and dual problems are also given.

Theoretical Study of the Hydroalumination Reaction of Cyclopropane with Alane

  • The hydroalumination of cyclopropane has been investigated using the B3LYP density functional method employing several split-valence basis sets. It is shown that the reaction proceeds via an intermediate weakly bound complex and a four-centered transition state. Calculations at higher levels of theory were also performed at the geometries optimized at the B3LYP level, but only slight changes in the barriers were observed. Structural parameters for the transition state are also reported.

  • Indian astronomical texts have records of lunar astronomy since the Puranic age. In the Vednga Jyotia (1350 B CE), the algorithm for computing eclipses is not found. This phenomenon was interpreted in the Siddhntic texts as the occurrence of Vyatipati Yoga. This paper attempts to explain the computing and observational method found in astronomical texts of Siddhntic period.
