Wrinkling is one of the major defects in sheet metal products and may be also attributable to the wear of the tool. The initiation and growth of wrinkles are influenced by many factors such as stress state, mechanical properties of the sheet material, geometry of the body, and contact condition. It is difficult to analyze the wrinkling initiation and growth considering the factors because the effects of the factors are very complex and the wrinkling behavior may show a wide variation for small deviations of the factors. In this study, the bifurcation theory is introduced for the finite element analysis of wrinkling initiation and growth. All the above mentioned factors are conveniently considered by the finite element method. The finite element formulation is based on the incremental deformation theory and elastic-plastic elements considering the planar anisotropy of the sheet metal. The proposed method is verified by employing a column buckling problem. And then, the initiation and growth of wrinkling in deep drawing of cylindrical cup are analyzed.

This Finite Element Program(TAFEM) has been developed to be able to carry out the structural analsis of tunnel section and simulate the surrounding ground behaviour due to New Austrian Tunnelling Method, of which main support is the surrounding ground, itself. The Elasto-plastic theory has been applied. The used finite elements are 8-noded isoparametric element(rock & shotcrete), 2 or 3-noded rod element(rock bolt) and infinite boundary element. The load incremental method and tangential stiffness method has been used. Associated flow rule was applied to plastic flow and yield criteria inclued not only Mohr-Coulomb but also Drucker-Prager. In this paper, Drucker-Prager yield criterion has been used. The relationship between plastic strain and stress is based on the incremental strain concept and stress-strain equation on the basis of the stress path of each gauss point has been adopted. It may be rational that rock is considered to be no-tension material, so that no-tension analysis has been adopted in accordance with the brittle fracture constitutive equation.

An automatic incremental algorithm for geometric non-linear finite element analysis of the structures subjected to the conservative and non-conservative forces is presented. By making efficient combination of the load incremental method and the displacement incremental method, this scheme can trace various post-buckling equilibrium path such as snap-through and turning-back. Several numerical examples to demonstrate the feasibility of the present algorithm, over ranges of deformation that are well beyond those likely to occur in practical structures, are given and discussed.

In order to optimize the press formability of incremental sheet forming for complex shape (e.g human face), a combination of both CAM and FEM simulation, is implemented and evaluated from the histories of stress and strain value by means of finite element analysis. Here, the results, using ABAQUS/Explicit finite element code, are compared with fracture limit curve (FLC) in order to predict and optimize the press formability by changing parameters of tool radius and tool down-step according to the orthogonal array of Taguchi's method. Firstly, The CAM simulation is used to create cutter location data (CL data). This data are then calculated, modified and exported to the input file format required by ABAQUS through using MATLAB programming. The FEM results are implemented for negative incremental sheet forming and then investigate by experiment.
An improved finite element-transfer matrix method is applied to the transient analysis of plates with large displacement under various excitations. In the present method, the transfer of state vectors from left to right in a combined finite element-transfer matrix method is changed into the transfer of generally incremental stiffness equations of every section from left to right. Furthermore, in this method, the propagation of round-off errors occurring in recursive multiplications of transfer and point matrices is avoided. The Newmark-${\beta}$ method is employed for time integration and the modified Newton-Raphson method for equilibrium iteration in each time step. An ITNONDL-W program based on this method using the IBM-PC/AT microcomputer is developed. Finally numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy as well as the potential of the proposed method for dynamic large deflection analysis of plates with random boundaries under various excitations.

A finite element formulation to predict the flexural behavior of composite girder is presented in which the early-age properties of concrete are specified including maturing of elastic modulus, creep and shrinkage. The time dependent constitutive relation accounting for the early-age concrete properties is derived in an incremental format by expanding the total form of stress-strain relation by the first order Taylor series with respect to the reference time. The total potential energy of the flexural composite member is minimized to derive the time dependent finite element equilibrium equation. Numerical applications are made for the 3-span double composite steel box girders which is a composite bridge girder filled with concrete at the bottom of the steel box in the negative moment region. The numerical analysis with considering the variation of concrete elastic modulus are performed to investigate the effect of it on the early-age behavior of composite structures. The one dimensional finite element analysis results are compared with the analytical method based on the sectional analysis. Close agreement is observed among the two methods.

The postbuckling behaviour of thin shells has fascinated researchers because the theoretical prediction and their experimental verification are often different. In reality, shell panels possess small imperfections and these can cause large reduction in static buckling strength. This is more relevant in thin laminated composite shells. To study the postbuckling behaviour of thin, imperfect laminated composite shells using finite elements, explicit incremental or secant matrices have been presented in this paper. These incremental matrices which are derived using Marguerre's shallow shell theory can be used in combination with any thin plate/shell finite element (Classical Laminated Plate Theory - CLPT) and can be easily extended to the First Order Shear deformation Theory (FOST). The advantage of the present formulation is that it involves no numerical approximation in forming total potential energy of the shell during large deformations as opposed to earlier approximate formulations published in the literature. The initial imperfection in shells could be modeled by simply adjusting the ordinate of the shell forms. The present formulation is very easy to implement in any existing finite element codes. The secant matrices presented in this paper are shown to be very accurate in tracing the postbuckling behaviour of thin isotropic and laminated composite shells with general initial imperfections.
In this study, it has been tried to prepare an analytical fragility curves for isolated straight continues highway bridges by considering different spectral intensity measures. A three-span concrete isolated bridge has been selected and the seismic performance of the bridge has been improved by Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB). Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is applied to the bridge in longitudinal direction. A suite of 14 earthquake ground motions from medium to sever motions are scaled and used for nonlinear time history analysis. Fragility function considers the relationship of earthquake intensity measures (IM) and probability of exceeding certain Damage State (DS). A full three dimensional finite element model of the isolated bridge has been developed and analyzed. A wide range of different intensity measures are selected and the optimal intensity measure which has the less dispersion is proposed.

A new linkage framework between elastic shell element with finite rotation and computar-aided geometric design (CAGD) (or surface is developed in the present study. The framework of shell finite element is based on the generalized curved two-parametric coordinate system. To represent free-form surface, cubic B-spline tensor-product functions are used. Thus the present finite element can be directly linked into the geometric modeling produced by surface generation tool in CAD software. The efficiency and accuracy of the Previously developed linear elements hold for the nonlinear element with finite rotations. To handle the finite rotation behavior of shells, exponential mapping in the SO(3) group is employed to allow the large incremental step size. The integrated frameworks of shell geometric design and nonlinear computational analysis can serve as an efficient tool in shape and topological design of surfaces with large deformations.

For the post-buckling and elasto-plastic analysis of shell structures, the total Lagrangian formulation is presented based upon the degenerated shell element. Geometrically correct formulation is developed by updating the direction of normal vectors in the iteration process and evaluating the total Green-Lagrange stain corresponding U total displacements. In the calculation of the stiffness matrix, the element formulation takes into account the effect of finite rotation increments by retaining second order rotation terms in the incremental displacement field. The selective or reduced integration scheme using the heterosis element is applied in order to overcome both shear locking phenomena and the zero energy mode. The load/displacement incremental scheme is adopted for geometric non-linear F .E. analysis. Based on such methodology, the computer program is developed and numerical examples to demonstrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed shell element are presented and compared with references's results.
