  • A Mixed Volume and Boundary Integral Equation Method is applied for the effective analysis of plane elastostatic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions. It should be noted that this newly developed numerical method does not require the Green's function for anisotropic inclusions to solve this class of problems since only Green's function for the unbounded isotropic matrix is involved in their formulation for the analysis. This new method can also be applied to general two-dimensional elastodynamic and elastostatic problems with arbitrary shapes and number of anisotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions. Through the analysis of plane elastostatic problems in unbounded isotropic matrix with orthotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions, it will be established that this new method is very accurate and effective for solving plane elastic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions.

  • A volume integral equation method (VIEM) is used to calculate the plane elastostatic field in an isotropic elastic half-plane containing multiple isotropic or anisotropic inclusions subject to remote loading. A detailed analysis of stress field at the interface between the matrix and the central inclusion in the first column of square packing is carried out for different values of the distance between the center of the central inclusion in the first column of square packing of inclusions and the traction-free surface boundary in an isotropic elastic half-plane containing multiple isotropic or anisotropic inclusions. The method is shown to be very accurate and effective for investigating the local stresses in an isotropic elastic half-plane containing multiple isotropic or anisotropic inclusions.

언양자수정의 내포물에 관한 연구 (Characterization of Inclusions in Amethysts from Eonyang, Korea)

  • 경남 울주군 삼남면 일대에 분포하는 언양화강암내에 발달하는 자수정결정은 하부에서 상부로 가면서 무색수정${\rightarrow}$백수정${\rightarrow}$연수정${\rightarrow}$자수정 순으로 평행연정으로 산출되며 전체외형이 버섯모양과 흡사하다. 수정내에서 관찰되는 유체포유물은 기체포유물(G>L), 액체포유물(L>G), 함$L_{CO_2}$포유물(L+G+$L_{CO_2}$), 함소금포유물(L+G+halite), 다상포유물(L+G+halite+sylvite${\pm}$opaque mineral) 등이며, 고체포유물로는 자형의 카리장석이 무색과 백수정에, 침상의 적철석이 자수정에 특징적으로 내포한다. 유형별 유체포유물의 균일화온도 범위는 기체포유물이 $320{\sim}560^{\circ}C$, 액체포유물이 $100{\sim}290^{\circ}C$, 함$L_{CO_2}$포유물이 $200{\sim}310^{\circ}C$, 함소금포유물이 $300{\sim}430^{\circ}C$, 다상포유물이 $370{\sim}430^{\circ}C$이다. 보석으로서의 언양자수정은 액체포유물의 충진도, 적철석과 함 $L_{CO_2}$ 포유물의 출현, 그리고 얼룩말무늬가 없는 점이 브라질자수정과 다르며, 자색대상구조, 고체포유물, 함 $L_{CO_2}$ 포유물 등의 존재에 의해 합성자수정과 구별된다.

  • A Mixed Volume and Boundary Integral Equation Method is applied for the effective analysis of elastic wave scattering problems and plane elastostatic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions. It should be noted that this newly developed numerical method does not require the Green's function for anisotropic inclusions to solve this class of problems since only Green's function for the unbounded isotropic matrix is involved in their formulation for the analysis. This new method can also be applied to general two-dimensional elastodynamic and elastostatic problems with arbitrary shapes and number of anisotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions. In the formulation of this method, the continuity condition at each interface is automatically satisfied, and in contrast to finite element methods, where the full domain needs to be discretized, this method requires discretization of the inclusions only. Finally, this method takes full advantage of the pre- and post-processing capabilities developed in FEM and BIEM. Through the analysis of plane elastostatic problems in unbounded isotropic matrix with orthotropic inclusions and voids or isotropic inclusions, and the analysis of plane wave scattering problems in unbounded isotropic matrix with isotropic inclusions and voids, it will be established that this new method is very accurate and effective for solving plane wave scattering problems and plane elastic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions and voids/cracks or isotropic inclusions.

티타늄 정밀주조품의 피로수명에 미치는 개재물의 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Inclusions on the Fatigue Life of Titanium Investment Castings)

  • Inclusions in Ti investment castings are generally known to have detrimental effects on the performance of the castings. However, actual inclusions are infrequent and hard to be located. As a result, it is extremely difficult to obtain sufficient amount of fatigue test specimens of titanium investment castings having inclusions in the gage section. Thus, in-depth research of the adverse influence of inclusions is also hindered. To address this problem, a new casting methodology of specimens containing hard alpha inclusions was developed in this study. To guarantee successful introduction of an inclusion and casting, a carefully designed mold with 8 legs and a special tool were employed. After solidification, castings were cut, and X-ray radiography determined that the inclusions were successfully incorporated into the castings. The castings were further prepared to obtain multiple test specimens and they were fatigue-tested consecutively. Fractography analysis confirmed that fatigue cracks initiated at the hard alpha inclusion. In a nonlinear regression model, the fatigue life can be modeled as an exponential function with a negative exponent of the cross-sectional area of an inclusion. The fatigue life of Ti specimens containing inclusions is inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of an inclusion.

Fluid Inclusions of Granitoids and their Bearing on Mineralization in South Korea

  • Relation between fluid inclusions and mineralization has been studied for 30 granitoid specimens from 19 localities in South Korea. Polyphase inclusions are found in granitoid specimens of 9 localities. In the vicinities of 6 localities among them occurs any of W, Cu or Fe deposits of the vein-, stockwork-, skarn-or pegmatite-type. On the contrary, no ore deposit is reported near the granitoids characterized by no polyphase inclusion except only one locality. This fact implies that the occurrence of polyphase inclusions is a good indicator for such kinds of mineralization. Ores and country rocks of some of the deposits contain polyphase inclusions in their quartz crystals. The fact that many polyphase inclusions occur in granitoids and ore constituents suggests that highly saline hydrothermal solution played an important role for the formation of such kinds of deposits. On the contrary, the granite and the ore of the Mugug gold deposit have many fluid inclusions, but are free from the polyphase type.

SET-VALUED QUASI VARIATIONAL INCLUSIONS

  • In this paper, we introduce and study a new class of variational inclusions, called the set-valued quasi variational inclusions. The resolvent operator technique is used to establish the equivalence between the set-valued variational inclusions and the fixed point problem. This equivalence is used to study the existence of a solution and to suggest a number of iterative algorithms for solving the set-valued variational inclusions. We also study the convergence criteria of these algorithms.

  • We considered a new system of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inclusions in Hilbert spaces and define an iterative method for finding the approximate solutions of this class of system of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inclusions. We also established that the approximate solutions obtained by our algorithm converges to the exact solutions of a new system of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inclusions.

인공개재물 이식법을 통한 항공기용 티타늄 주물의 피로설계 (An Artificial Inclusion Seeding Methodology for Fatigue Design of Aerospace Ti Castings)

  • Presence of inclusions in Ti castings imparts detrimental effects on the mechanical performance of castings. However, actual inclusions do not occur very frequently and they are difficult to locate. As a result, acquirement of specimens for mechanical tests and thus in-depth research of the adverse influence of inclusions are challenging. To address this problem, artificial inclusion seeding methodology is developed to emulate actual inclusions in Ti investment castings. Firstly, to validate that this new methodology does not result in inherent mechanical property degradation, Ti specimens with machined, backfilled and HIPed holes are produced and compared to control (unaltered), cast Ti material. Fatigue test results indicate that this 'machine-and-HIP methodology without seeding' does not result in any fundamental mechanical property alteration, which would bias ensuing comparative results. Secondly, based on this result, validation of the artificially seeded inclusions being equivalent to 'as cast' inclusions is performed by comparing their fatigue behaviors. Test specimens created by the novel artificial inclusion seeding methodology are equivalent to Ti casting specimens containing actual cast-in inclusions, and an adverse effect of inclusions in investment castings is confirmed.

둔전금광산 북광상에서 산출되는 다상포유물내의 고상 (Solid Phases in Polyphase Inclusions from North Ore Deposits, Dunjeon Gold Mine)

  • North ore deposits of the Dunjeon gold mine is disseminated-stockworks deposits emplaced in Ordovician Dongjeom quartzite. Six types of fluid inclusions are recongnized in the stage I quartz. Among them polyphase inclusions(type-IV-A, B) are predominent in the lower part of stage I quartz crystals whereas liquid and gas inclusions(type I, II) are abundant in the upper part of the same quartz crystals. Liquid $CO_2$-bearing inclusions(type III-A, B)occur as pseudosecondary inclusions. Solid phases in polyphase inclusions are identified by using scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The solid phases are as follows; halite, sylvite, hydrophyllite, quartz, muscovite, calcite, ankerite, K-Mg-Fe-Al-Si mineral, Ca-Fe-Si mineral, Mg-Al-Si mineral, two kinds of Fe-mineral and Cu-Fe mineral. Results of freezing and heating experiments of fluid inclusions and identification of daughter minerals in polyphase inclusions in the stage I quartz reveal that ore fluids were high saline system NaCl-KCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ in the earier stage and then evolved to rather simple system NaCl-$H_2O$ in the later stage, and temporally fluid mixing occured with system $CO_2$-$H_2O$. Homogenization temperatures and salinity of fluid inclusions in the stage I range from 290 to $454^{\circ}C$ and from 0.2 to 54.2 wt. % equivalent to NaCl.
