Traffic congestion is a source of significant economic and social costs in urban areas. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are a promising means to help alleviate congestion by utilizing advanced sensing, computing, and communication technologies. This paper proposes and investigates a basic and advanced ITS framework Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) using wireless Vehicle to Roadside (Centralized ATIS model: CA model) and Vehicle to Vehicle (DeCentralized ATIS model: DCA model) communication and assuming an ideal communication environment in the typical $6{\times}6$ urban grid traffic network. Results of this study indicate that an ATIS using wireless communication can save travel time given varying combinations of system characteristics: traffic flow, communication radio range, and penetration ratio. Also, all tested metrics of the CA and DCA models indicate that the system performance of both models is almost identical regardless of varying traffic demand and penetration ratios. Therefore, DCA model can be a reasonable alternative to the fixed infrastructure based ATIS model (CA model).
A speckle correlation method was applied to measure the in-plane translation of a diffuse object which has rough surface using a linear CCD sensor and personal computer. Displacement of a speckle pattern produced from the object illuminated by a laser beam was measured by the cross-correlation functions between the I-D speckle profiles before and after the object translation, which were measured by linear CCD array sensor to be sent to IBM 386 personal computer. The sensitivity of the measurement was dependent on the radius of the wavefront curvature of incident beam as well as the spatial resolution of linear CCD array. A linear CCD array had 15 Jlffi pitch and 1728 pixels. The ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation varied from 1.03 to 5.20. The object translation of $3\mu\textrm{m}$ can be measured br the linear CCD sensor of which pitch was $15\mu\textrm{m}$, when the ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation was 5.20.s 5.20.
Multi-channel images of 11-MUA(11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid) and 11-MUOH(11-Mercaptoundecanol) self-assembled monolayers were obtained by using two-dimensional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption. The patterning process was simplified by exploiting direct photo-oxidation of thiol bonding (photolysis) instead of conventional photolithography. Sharper images were resolved by using a white light source in combination with a narrow bandpass filter in the visible region, minimizing the diffraction patterns on the images. The line profile calibration of the image contrast caused by different resonance conditions at each point on the sensor surface (at a fixed incident angle) enables us to discriminate the monolayer thickness in nanometer scale. Furthermore, there is no signal degradation such as photo bleaching or quenching, which are common in the detection methods based on fluorescence.
On an international scale, the burden of cancer in absolute numbers continues to increase, mainly due to aging of population in many countries, the overall growth of the world population, changing lifestyle with increasing cancer-causing behavior, like cigarette smoking, changing dietary habits and sedentary life. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death and disability in the world, after only heart disease. Recently, increasing incidence and mortality of cancer have also become evident in the developing world. In Iraq and particularly in Basrah in the southern part of the country, the burden has definitely increased and deserves extensive research. The present paper is part of an extensive household survey carried out in Basrah in 2013. Among the objectives was to validate official cancer registration in the governorate. The cross-sectional survey had a retrospective component to inquire about the incidence of cancer and cancer-related deaths during the three years preceding the date of inquiry (2010-2012). A convenient sample of 6,999 households with 40,688 inhabitants using multistage cluster sampling was surveyed involving all urban and rural areas of Basrah. The official cancer registration activities in Basrah seemed to have attained a high level of registration coverage (70-80%) but the gap, represented by missed cases, is still high enough to criticize the system. Most of the missing cases were either not notified by treating facilities or they were diagnosed and treated outside Basrah. Using a set of parameters, the pattern of cancer was consistent based on data of the household survey and data of the cancer registry but a gap still existed in the coverage of incident cancer and mortality by cancer registration. Integrated serious steps are required to contain the risk of cancer and its burden on the patient through improving the registration process, improving early detection, diagnostic and management capabilities and encouraging scientific research to explore the hidden risk factors and possible causes of low registration coverage. Periodic household surveys seemed feasible and essential to support routine registration.
We have fabricated and evaluated a new Si pin photodiode for red light detection with the web patterned $p^{+}$ -shallow diffused region in the light absorbing area. From the measurements of electro-optical characteristics under the bias of -5V, the junction capacitance of 4pF and the dark current of 235pA were obtained. When the 1.6㎼ optical power with peak wavelength of 670nm was incident on the device, the optical signal current of 0.48$\mu\textrm{A}$ and the responsivity of 0.30A/W were obtained. The fabricated device showed the improved sensitivity compared to the conventional circular type device and the maximum spectral response in a spectrum of 670~700nm. The web-patterned Si photodiode can be expected to have the good discrimination characteristics between digital signals in the application of red light optics.
In this paper, a new measuring system is :proposed which can measure the fine 6-DOF displacement of rigid bodies. Its measurement principle is based on detection of laser beam reflected from a specially fabricated mirror that looks like a triangular pyramid having an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45$^{\circ}$ to its bottom surface. We call this mirror 3-facet mirror. The 3-facet mirror is mounted on the object whose 6-DOF displacement is to be measured. The measurement is operated by a laser-based optical system composed of a 3-facet mirror, a laser source, three position-sensitive detectors(PSD). In the sensor system, three PSDs are located at three corner points of a triangular formation, which is an equilateral triangular formation tying parallel to the reference plane. The sensitive areas of three PSDs are oriented toward the center point of the triangular formation. The object whose 6-DOF displacement is to be measured is situated at the center with the 3-facet mirror on its top surface. A laser beam is emitted from the laser source located at the upright position and vertically incident on the top of the 3-fatcet mirror. Since each reflective facet faces toward each PSD, the laser beam is reflected at the 3-facet mirror and splits into three sub-beams, each of which is reflected from the three facets and finally arrives at three PSDs, respectively. Since each PSD is a 2-dimensional sensor, we can acquire the information on the 6-DOF displacement of the 3-facet mirror. From this principle, we can get 6-DOF displacement of any object simply by mounting the 3-facet mirror on the object. In this paper, we model the relationship between the 6-DOF displacement of the object and the outputs of three PSDs. And, a series of simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed sensing system can be an effective means of obtaining 3-dimensional position and orientation of arbitrary objects.
Purpose: Certain places in Seoul such as Shinchon, Hongdae, and Gangnam, often suffer from sudden overflow of mobile population which can cause serious safety problems. This study suggests the application of spatial CUSUM control chart in monitoring areal population mobility data which is recently provided by Seoul metropolitan government. Methods: Monitoring series of standardized local Moran's I enables one to detect spatio-temporal out-of-control status based on the accumulation of past patterns. Moreover, we visualize such pattern map for more intuitive comprehension of the phenomenon. As a case study, we have analyzed the female mobility population aged 25 to 29 appeared in 51 Jipgyegu near Hongik university on fridays from January, 2017 to June, 2018. They are validated by exploring related articles and through local due diligence. Results: The results of the analysis provide insights in figuring out if the change of the mobility population is short-term by particular incident or long-term by spatial alteration, which allows strategic approach in constructing response system. Specific case near popular downtown near Hongik University has shown that newly opened hotels, shops of global sports brand and franchise bookstores have attracted young female population. Conclusion: We expect that the results of our study contribute to planning effective distribution of administrative resources to prepare against drastic increase in floating population. Furthermore, it can be useful in commercial area analysis and age/gender specific marketing strategy for companies.
Spatio-temporal congestion evolution pattern can be reproduced using the VDS(Vehicle Detection System) historic speed dataset in the TMC(Traffic Management Center)s. Such dataset provides a pool of spatio-temporally experienced traffic conditions. Traffic flow pattern is known as spatio-temporally recurred, and even non-recurrent congestion caused by incidents has patterns according to the incident conditions. These imply that the information should be useful for traffic prediction and traffic management. Traffic flow predictions are generally performed using black-box approaches such as neural network, genetic algorithm, and etc. Black-box approaches are not designed to provide an explanation of their modeling and reasoning process and not to estimate the benefits and the risks of the implementation of such a solution. TMCs are reluctant to employ the black-box approaches even though there are numerous valuable articles. This research proposes a more readily understandable and intuitively appealing data-driven approach and developes an algorithm for identifying congestion patterns for recurrent and non-recurrent congestion management and information provision.
In this paper, a disaster response scheme based on deep learning and augmented reality technology is proposed and a network resource reservation scheme is presented accordingly. The features of deep learning, augmented reality technology and its relevance to the disaster areas are explained. Deep learning technology can be used to accurately recognize disaster situations and to implement related disaster information as augmented reality, and to enhance disaster response capabilities by providing disaster response On-site disaster response agent, ICS (Incident Command System) and MCS (Multi-agency Coordination Systems). In the case of various disasters, the fire situation is focused on and it is proposed that a plan to strengthen disaster response capability effectively by providing fire situation recognition based on deep learning and augmented reality information. Finally, a scheme to secure network resources to utilize the disaster response method of this paper is proposed.
Since the air stream in the room controlled by HVAC system affects on he expected response of conventional detectors which are designed in accordance with normal characteristics of air stream in the fire incident, unexpected operation time delay may occur in fire. In order to solve this problem and to improve sensitivity so that to initiate fire in its early stages for minimizing damage and protecting people, we studied and developed Air Sampling Smoke Detector. The Air Sampling Smoke Detector is a kind of active-type fire detection system. it draws air continuously from the protected area through an air sampling pipe network to the smoke density analyzer. This study presents smoke density analysing technique and air intake balancing technique through an air sampling pipe network. As a result of evaluating, Air Sampling Smoke Detector was much more sensitive than conventional smoke detectors that passively wait for smoke to reach them and was not affected by ambient airflow in the room by means of balanced air intake through the sampling holes.
