  • The superconducting magnetic separation system has been developing to separate the iron oxide scale from the feed water of the thermal power plant. The accumulation in the boiler lowers the heat exchange rate or in the worst case damages it. For this reason, in order to prevent scale generation, controlling pH and redox potential is employed. However, these methods are not sufficient and then the chemical cleaning is performed regularly. A superconducting magnetic separation system is investigated for removing iron oxide scale in a feed water system. Water supply conditions of the thermal power plant are as follows, flow rate 400 t / h, flow speed 0.2 m / s, pressure 2 MPa, temperature $160-200^{\circ}C$, amount of scale generation 50 - 120 t / 2 years. The main iron oxide scale is magnetite (ferromagnetic substance) and its particle size is several tens ${\mu}m$. As the first step we are considering to introduce the system to the chemical cleaning process of the thermal power plant instead of the thermal power plant itself. The current status of development will be reported.

  • The roll-to-roll (R2R) fabrication method to make micro-scale pillar arrays for biomimetic functionalization of surfaces is presented. Inspired by the micro-structure of plants in nature, a surface with a synthetic micro-scale pillar array is fabricated via maskless photolithography. After the surface is SAM (self-assembled monolayer) coated with trichlorosilane in a vacuum desiccator, it displays a hydrophobic property even in R2R replicas of original substrate, whose properties are further characterized using various pitches and diameters. In order to perform a comparison between the original micro-pattern and its replicas, surface morphology was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and wetting characteristics were measured via a contact angle measurement tool with a $10{\mu}L$ water droplet. Efficient roll-to-roll imprinting for a biomimetic functionalized surface has the potential for use in many fields ranging from water repelling and self-cleaning to microfluidic chips.

  • In this study the cleaning spherical beads with same density as water were fabricated. Bead moving velocity was measured with respect to the aeration rate and bead concentration in water reservoir. The permeation experiments for FR (filtration and relaxation) and SFCO (sinusoidal filtration continuous operation) modes were simultaneously carried out under the condition of 1 to 3% cleaning spherical bead concentration, 20 LMH and 500 mL/min aeration rate in the MLSS 8,000 mg/L activated sludge solution. The used membrane was the $90cm^2$ effective area and $0.4{\mu}m$ nominal pore size flat membrane. The TMP (transmembrane pressure) decreased as the bead concentration increased, and was shown most effective in FR mode with 2% bead concentration.

  • The two-dimensional pressure distribution, which is the most important parameter in the casting cleaning installations(CCI), was analyzed using the K-FIX computer program for two-phase flow. Modelling was done using R-Z coordinates for the initial and boundary conditions which don't have periodic influx and efflux, and also there was the electric discharge due to high pressure and temperature. The marked particles were introduced to prodict the structure and the size of main and local moving surfaces. The initial and boundary conditions were modified due to the internal structure of CCI.From the results of numerical analysis, it was shown that the maximum pressure on casting was increased with the increase of a water level. The pressure on casting in the radial direction was higher than that in axial direction. Also, it was proved that by introducing the marked particles it was possible to predict the surface structure in case of two-phase flow.

  • Recently the utilization of the ozone dissolved de-ionized water(DIW-$O_3$) in semiconductor wet cleaning process and photoresist stripping process to replace the conventional sulfuric acid and hydro peroxide mixture(SPM) method has been studied. In this paper, we propose the water-electrode type ozone generator which has the characteristics of the high concentration and purity to produce the high concentration DIW-$O_3$ for the photoresist strip process in the semiconductor fabrication. The proposed ozone generator has the dual dielectric tube structure of silent discharge type and the water is both used to electrode and cooling water. Through this study, we obtained the results of the 10.3 wt% of ozone gas concentration at the oxygen gas of 0.5 [liter/min.] and the DIW-$O_3$ concentration of 79.5 ppm.. Through the photoresist stripping test using the produced DIW-$O_3$, we confirmed that the photoresist coated on the silicon wafer was removed effectively in the 12 minutes.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of cleaning solutions on saliva-contaminated zirconia in comparison to air-abrasion in terms of resin bonding. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For saliva-contaminated air-abraded zirconia, seven cleaning methods)-no contamination (NC), water-spray rinsing (WS), additional air-abrasion (AA), and cleaning with four solutions (Ivoclean [IC]; 1.0 wt% sodium dodecyl sulfate [SDS], 1.0 wt% hydrogen peroxide [HP], and 1.0 wt% sodium hypochlorite [SHC])-were tested. The zirconia surfaces for each group were characterized using various analytical techniques. Three bonded resin (Panavia F 2.0) cylinders (bonding area: $4.5mm^2$) were made on one zirconia disk specimen using the Ultradent jig method [four disks (12 cylinders)/group; a total of 28 disks]. After 5,000 thermocycling, all specimens were subjected to a shear bond strength test with a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/minute. The fractured surfaces were observed using an optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). RESULTS. Contact angle measurements showed that groups NC, AA, IC, and SHC had hydrophilic surfaces. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed similar elemental distributions between group AA and groups IC and SHC. Groups IC and SHC showed statistically similar bond strengths to groups NC and AA (P>.05), but not groups SDS and HP (P<.05). For groups WS, SDS, and HP, blister-like bubble formations were observed on the surfaces under SEM. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, some of the cleaning solutions (IC or SHC) were effective in removing saliva contamination and enhancing the resin bond strength.

  • Hydrocarbon is required to be converted to pure hydrogen without carbon monooxide (CO) for polymer exchange membran fuel cell (PEMFC) applications. In this paper, CO cleaning processes as the downstream of Dimethyl ehter (DME) autothermal reforming process were performed in micro-reactors. Our study suggested two kinds of water gas shift (WGS) reaction process: High Temperature shift (HTS) - Low Temperature shift (LTS), Middle temperature shift (MTS). Firstly, using perovskite catalyst for MTS was decreased effieiciency since methanation. Using HTS-LTS the CO concentration was decreased about 2% ($N_2$ & $H_2O$ free) with the reaction temperature of $420^{\circ}C$ and $235^{\circ}C$ for HTS and LTS, respectively. As the final stage of CO cleaning process, preferential oxidation (PROX) was applied. The amount of additional oxygen need 2 times of stoichiometric at $65^{\circ}C$. The total conversion reforming efficiency of 75% was gained.

  • A septic tank is a purification treatment system where night soil and other waste matter is converted into harmless material by the activities of bacteria. Effluent from the septic tank flows into the sewer pipe, and then this effluent affects the quality of water environment and makes foul smell. In this study, through the proper maintenance of septic tank it was tried to minimize the impact of sewer pipe on water quality and fouling smell. BOD removal rate from the septic tank's effluent which exceeded legal cleaning period was investigated for the proper maintenance. BOD Removal rate of the twelve septic tank's effluent is -62.5% to 43.9%. According to the result of BOD removal rate, septic tank cleaning should be done at least once a year. And the pathogenic coliform bacillus in the twelve septic tank's effluent is average 768,000 (MPN/$100m{\ell}$). The chlorine disinfection is needed to remove the pathogenic coliform bacillus in septic tank effluent.

  • Washed wastewater generated from the intermittent cleaning process of the three tunnel sites located in the Seoul area showed high concentrations of SS, $COD_{Cr}$, T-N, $NH_3-N$, $NO_3-N$, Zn, Cu, Cr(+6), Mn, Mg, Phenol, $CN^-$ and E-Coli based on the water quality analysis. These characteristics of the deteriorative wastewater depend on the sampling method, cleaning frequency, released amount of washing water, inner material of tunnel wall, traffic volume, and type of drainage systems. Gravitational separation experiment of SS with collected tunnel wastewater showed considerable removal of pollutants such as 80% of $COD_{Cr}$, 30% of T-N and 90% of T-P simultaneously. GAC isotherm test was conducted to remove dissolved portion of the pollutants, and resulted in high removal efficiencies above 80% of $COD_{Cr}$, T-N, Zn, Cu, Mn, Phenol, CN in the experimental condition of GAC dosage of $50g/1/{\ell}$.

  • This research was to evaluate conservational stability of cleaning treatment and color recovery by weak acid treatment on ivory. Before this experiment, had an ivory identification such as black light and schreger angle to find whether it is authentic or not. In wet cleaning treatment on ivory, used polar solvents such as distilled water, acetone, ethyl alcohol and acetic acid which usually used for cleaning ivory and bones. After cleaning took a experiment to evaluate conservational stability in surface observation, calculate weight and color difference. Following these results, these polar solvents were stable on the ivory samples. On the other hand, in weak acid treatment, used samples that were exposed by UV-A, UV-B, UV-C for 1 weeks, to restore its color from changed to original color. After treatment, found tiny cracks and exfoliation on the surface. Moreover, the color changed when it is treated by lemon juice, so, it is impossible to adapt.
