The objective of this study is to determine the effective thermal conductivity and thermal resistance values in test boreholes with three different fill materials. To evaluate these heat transfer properties, in-situ tests on four vertical boreholes were conducted by adding a monitored amount of heat to water over various test lengths. Two parameter estimation models, line-source and numerical one-dimensional models, for evaluation of thermal response test data were compared when applied on the same four data sets. Results show that the average thermal conductivity deviation between measured data and these two models is in the range of $3.03\%$ to $4.45\%$. The effect of increasing grout thermal conductivity from 1.34 to 1.82 $W/m^{\circ}C$ resulted in overall increases in effective formation thermal conductivity by $11.1\%$ to $51.9\%$ and reductions in borehole thermal resistance by $11.6\%$ to $26.1\%$.

In prepaparation of the high performance polymer/clay nanocomposite, it is essential to modify the hydrophillic $Na^+$-MMT to hydrophobic alkyl ammonium-MMT via organic surfactant. The organic surfactant, VDAC (vinylbenzyldimethyl-dodecylammonium chloride) was synthesized from two primary chemicals and $VDA^+$-MMT was prepared from $Na^+$-MMT through a cation exchange reaction between $Na^+$ and $VDA^+$ (vinylbenzyldimethyl-$dodecylammonium^+$) cation. $VDA^+$-MMT was then dispersed in styrene and polystyrene/$VDA^+$-MMT nanocomposite was fabricated by in-situ polymerization reaction. The clay dispersion and barrier property of the nanocomposite were investigated. From the investigations, it was confirmed that dispersion of the $VDA^+$-MMT was enhanced compared with that of $Na^+$-MMT and as a consequency of better dispersion, barrier property of organic solvent was improved in a great extent.

Polymer-clay nanocomposite containing the low amounts of clay shows improved physical, mechanical properties. In this study, allyl ester prepolymer was synthesised by reactions of the diallyl terephthalate monomers and the 1,3-butanediol monomers. Nanocomposites of allyl ester prepolymer and the two kinds of the organically layered silicate were prepared by using the intercalation method as well as the in-situ polymerization method using. By varying the amount of clay content, curing conditions, and feeding conditions. the nanocomposite was studied using X-ray diffraction. From XRD results, allyl ester-Cloisite 30 B nanocomposite made by the in-situ polymerization method shows better exfoliation behavior compared with the intercalation method. It can be said that the transesterification reaction between functional groups (-OH) of intercalant and monomers results in the increased gallery distance. Also mechanical and thermal properties indicate that the dispersity of clay is an important factor for improving physical properties of the nanocomposite.

Because of impact on the underwater light field, CDOM can influence the accuracy of global satellite-based measurement of ocean chlorophyll and primary productivity. So we investigated the distribution and seasonal variation of CDOM in the East Sea during summer 2009 and 2011. Among them we report two distinctively different summer cases between 2009 and 2011 year, in which showed the different main sources for CDOM. Regulating factors and sources of CDOM in the East Sea were examined. Comparison between in situ and satellite derived Chl a and CDOM were made to find an influence of CDOM on measurement of satellite derived Chl a. Similar pattern and matching of MODIS Chl a with in situ Chl a 2009 was comparable, but significant discrepancy between MODIS Chl a and in situ Chl a was found, when CDOM was high in summer of 2011. GOCI data showed better matching with in situ data for both Chl a and CDOM, compared to MODIS data in summer of 2011. The presence of high CDOM at the surface layer supplied by vertical mixing seems to affect on the overestimation of Chl a by satellite data.

This study was conducted to evaluate in situ soil flushing and coagulation for naphtalenes-contaminated soil remediation. Mixed-surfactant of 1% POE12 and 1% SDS (1 : 1 by volume basis) was used as a flushing solution. When 5 pore volumes of mixed -surfactant were added to soil column, the flushing efficiencies of 2-methylnaphtalene and 1,5-dimethylnaphtalene with about 1,500 mg/kg(dry soil) were approximately 80% and 60% respectively. In adding 13 pore volumes of mixed-surfactant, the flushing efficiencies of 2-methylnaphtalene and 1,5-dimethylnaphtalene were 90% and 82%. However, considering in situ soil flushing with distilled water, about 42% and 71% were flushed for 2-methylnaphtalene and 1,5-dimethylnaphtalene by surfactant-only. For about 10,000 mg/kg(dry soil) diesel-contaminated soil, 40% and 70% of TPH were flushed-out in 5 pore volumes and 13 pore volumes addition. However, for naphtalenes in diesel TPH, 90% of flushing efficiency was discovered in adding only 5 pore volumes of flushing solution. There was not discovered significant difference among coagulation efficiencies of 6 kinds of polymers, and the coagulation efficiencies were near 50%.
$Nafion/TiO_2$ composite membranes were prepared via an in-situ sol-gel process with different immersing periods from 1 day to 7 days for the low humidifying proton exchange membrane fuel cell. As the immersing time increased, the $TiO_2$ content within the Nafion membrane increased. The contact angle decreased with the increased $TiO_2$ content in the composite membrane due to the increased hydrophilicity. The water uptake and proton conductivity reached to the highest level for 4 day immersing period, then decreased as the immersing period increased. A 7 days of immersing time was shown to be too long because too much $TiO_2$ aggregates were formed on the membrane surface as well as interior of the membrane, interfering the proton transfer from anode to cathode. Cell performance results were in good agreement with those of the water uptake and proton conductivity; current densities under a relative humidity (RH) of 40% were 0.54, 0.6, $0.63A/cm^2$ and $0.49A/cm^2$ for the immersing time of 1, 3, 4 and 7 days, respectively at a 0.6 V. The composite membrane prepared via the in-situ sol-gel process exhibited the enhancement in the cell performance under of RH 40% by a maximum of about 66% compared to those of using the recasting composite membrane and Nafion 115.
Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs), which are composed of a polymer matrix filled with high-performance fillers as a dispersed phase, have been intensively studied for gas separations for the past 30 years. It has been demonstrated that MMMs exhibit superior gas separation performance compared to polymer membranes and are more scalable than polycrystalline membranes. Despite their potential, the commercialization of MMMs has yet to be reported due to several challenging issues. One of the major challenges of MMMs is the non-ideal interface between the continuous polymer phase and dispersed phase, which can result in defect formation (i.e., interfacial voids, etc.). With respect, many MMM studies have focused on addressing the issues through scientific approaches. The engineering approaches for facile and effective large-scale fabrication of MMMs, however, have been relatively underestimated. In this review paper, a novel strategy for fabricating MMMs in a facile and scalable manner using in situ metal-organic framework (MOF) formation is introduced. This new MMM fabrication methodology can effectively address the issues facing current MMMs, likely facilitating the commercialization of MMMs.
Ti(C,N) films are synthesized by pulsed DC plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PEMOCVD) using metal-organic compounds of tetrakis diethylamide titanium at $200-300^{\circ}C$. To compare plasma parameter, in this study, $H_2$ and $He/H_2$ gases are used as carrier gas. The effect of $N_2\;and\;NH_3$ gases as reactive gas is also evaluated in reduction of C content of the films. Radical formation and ionization behaviors in plasma are analyzed in-situ by optical emission spectroscopy (OES) at various pulsed bias voltages and gas species. He and $H_2$ mixture is very effective in enhancing ionization of radicals, especially for the $N_2$. Ammonia $(NH_3)$ gas also highly reduces the formation of CN radical, thereby decreasing C content of Ti(C, N) films in a great deal. The microhardness of film is obtained to be $1,250\;Hk_{0.01}\;to\;1,760\;Hk_{0.01}$ depending on gas species and bias voltage. Higher hardness can be obtained under the conditions of $H_2\;and\;N_2$ gases as well as bias voltage of 600 V. Hf(C, N) films were also obtained by pulsed DC PEMOCYB from tetrakis diethyl-amide hafnium and $N_2/He-H_2$ mixture. The depositions were carried out at temperature of below $300^{\circ}C$, total chamber pressure of 1 Torr and varying the deposition parameters. Influences of the nitrogen contents in the plasma decreased the growth rate and attributed to amorphous components, to the high carbon content of the film. In XRD analysis the domain lattice plain was (111) direction and the maximum microhardness was observed to be $2,460\;Hk_{0.025}$ for a Hf(C,N) film grown under -600 V and 0.1 flow rate of nitrogen. The optical emission spectra measured during PEMOCVD processes of Hf(C, N) film growth were also discussed. $N_2,\;N_2^+$, H, He, CH, CN radicals and metal species(Hf) were detected and CH, CN radicals that make an important role of total PEMOCVD process increased carbon content.

In this study, the basic physical properties and microstructure of concrete interlocking blocks with amount of different CO2 gas injection were analyzed according to determine the applicability of In-situ carbonation technology to construction secondary products. The amount of carbon dioxide gas injection was selected as 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 wt.% compared to cement amount. A lab-scale press equipment was designed to apply developed carbonation technology to real construction site. And mixer for stable CO2 gas injection was designed. Using the designed devices, CO2 gas injected samples were created and physical property of samples were performed. As a result of the physical property test, as the CO2 injection amount increased to 0.3 %, it showed higher strength behavior compared to the original mix. And more than 0.5 % samples showed lower strength behavior than original sample, but they satisfied the standard of concrete interlocking block. This results were determined that CO2 injection contributed to the creation of hydrates such as C-S-H. Therefore, the possibility of applying carbonation technology, which injects CO2 during mixing, to various secondary construction products was confirmed.
