On the in situ Measurement Method of Headphones using Head And Torso Simulator (HATS를 이용한 헤드폰의 in situ 측정방법에 관하여)

  • The standard measuring method of the frequency characteristics of headphones has been needed because different results come from the different measuring methods because of the lack of the reasonable measuring method of headphone characteristics, for example, in the case of psycho-acoustic experiments with headphones. In this paper, based on this fact, we studied the measurement method of headphones based on the natural hearing condition of human being, that is in situ measuring method, by measuring the headphone frequency characteristics using an artificial ear and a newly proposed device, HATS(Head And Torso Simulator). From the result of this paper, we could see that the method appropriate to a so called in situ condition was the one wi9th HATS, Because HATS simulated more correctly the acoustic impedance of the ear and the diffraction effect of the human head than the artificial ear.

Enhancement of Dielectric Properties of Pb(La,Ti)$O_3$ Thin Films Using Two-step Process (Two-Step Process를 이용한 Pb(La,Ti)$O_3$ 박막의 유전특성 향상 연구)

  • Thin films of phase-pure perovskite $(Pb_{0.72}La_{0.28})Ti_{0.93}O_3$ (PLT) were deposited in-situ onto Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates by pulsed laser deposition. We have systematically investigated the variation of grain sizes depending on the process condition. Both in-situ annealing and ex-situ annealing treatments have been compared depending on the annealing time. The grain sizes of PLT thin films were successfully controlled 260 to 350 nm by changing process parameters. Microstructural and electrical properties of the film were investigated by C-V measurement, leakage current measurement and SEM. Two-step process to grow $(Pb_{0.72}La_{0.28})Ti_{0.93}O_3$ (PLT) films was adopted and verified to be useful to enlarge the grain size of the film and to enhance the leakage current characteristics.

  • We have fabricated an in situ ellipsometer operating at He-Ne wavelength. It can be applied to the real-time, in-situ tracking of the ellisometric change which occurs during various sample treatments. As a rotating analyzer type, all optical elements and related parts are designed to share a common hollow-axis configuration, and hence the ellipsometer is compact in shape and simple in design. It is mountable on the spare ports of vacuum chamber with ease. Using this ellipsometer, we observed the effective density variation of previously grown $TiO_2$ thin films by using electron beam evaporation. The packing density of the as-grown film was 82%. When exposed to atomsphere, the micro-void of the film was filled with water vapor. This water-filled $TiO_2$ thin film was subject to heating/cooling cycles in vacuum and the ellipsometric variation versus temperature and cycling number was measured in real time using this in situ He-Ne ellipsometer.

  • Manufacturing bulk nanostructured materials with least grain growth from initial powders is challenging because of the bottle neck of bottom-up methods using the conventional powder metallurgy via compaction and sintering. In the study, densification behavior of nano Cu powders during pressureless sintering was investigated using an in-situ optical dilatometer technique. The initial heating and steady temperature stages during the sintering of nano Cu powder compacts were observed. At the initial heating stage, the powder compact has many porosities and full densification needs high temperature and/or high pressure sintering. In the experimental analysis, changes in geometry and density were measured and discussed for optimal consolidation and densification by the in-situ optical dilatometer.

  • A coil-type capacitive sensor on which the deterioration of the car engine oil can be in situ measured, has been developed. The sensor was designed to get over 10 pF at the limited space on the drain hole of the oil pan. The design factors for stable capacitance measurement such as coil diameter and winding condition, materials and configuration of the coil former, and shielding method, etc., were known by both computer simulation and experimental investigations. The dielectric properties measured by several sensors for an used sample oil were consisted within 0.25%. The sensor installed on the car having severe vibration, temperature and humidity fluctuation, even electromagnetic noise, has shown very distinguishable results.

Evaluation of Torsional Vibration Isolation Damper in Automotive Transmissions Based on In-situ Torque Measurement (토크 측정을 이용한 차량 변속기용 비틀림 진동 절연 댐퍼 평가)

  • This paper presents a proof-of-concept study on the evaluation of torsional vibration isolation performance through in-situ output torque measurement by using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in the vehicle driveline system. The de-trending processing is first conducted to extract the torsional vibration from the measured driveline output torque. In order to estimate the transmissibility, primary performance indicator of a vibration isolator, the magnitude of transmitted torsional vibration with different frequencies is compared. From the conservative estimation results, the torsional damper built in a lock-up clutch of a torque converter is identified to be a vibration isolator. The evaluation results show that the fluid damping by torque converter outperforms the vibration isolation function of a torsional damper, and the isolation performance needs to be enhanced.

  • Since the hydraulic fracturing field testing method was introduced first to Korean geotechnical engineers in 1994, there have been lots of progresses in a hardware system as well as an interpretation tool. The hydrofracturing system of first generation was the pipe-line type, so it was not easy to handle. It had been modified to a wire-line system at their second generation. It was more compact one but it also needed an additional air-compressor. Our current system is much more compact and operated by all-in-one system, so it doesn't need an additional air-compressor. With a progress in a hardware system, the software for analyzing the in-situ stress regime has also been progressed. For example, the shut-in pressure, which is the most ambiguous parameter to be obtained from hydrofracturing pressure curves, can now be acquired automatically from the various methods. While the hardware and software for hydrofracturing tests are being developed during the last decade, the author could accumulate the field test results which can cover the almost whole area of South Korea. Currently these field data are used widely in a feasibility study or a preliminary design step for tunnel construction in Korea. Regarding the difficulties in a site selection and a test performance for the in-situ stress measurement at an off-shore area, the in-situ stress regime obtained from the field experiences in the land area can be used indirectly for the design of a sub-sea tunnel. From the hydrofracturing stress measurements, the trend of magnitude and direction of in-situ stress field was shown identically with the geological information in Korea.

Driveline Output Torque Estimation Using Discrete Kalman Filter (이산 칼만 필터를 이용한 구동 출력 토크 추정)

  • This paper presents a study on the driveline output torque estimation using a discrete Kalman filter. The in-situ output shaft torque is first measured by a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer. The linear state-space system equations are first derived and the discrete Kalman filter is designed based on the Kalman filter theory to recover the driveline output torque contaminated by random noises. In addition to using torque measurement, the estimation of the output torque using two angular velocities: the output and wheel, is also conducted. The experimental results show that the discrete Kalman filter can be effective for not only removing the random noise in output torque but also estimating the output torque without torque measurement.

  • This paper presents a study on the system identification of the in-situ output shaft torque measurement system using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in a vehicle drivline. The frequency response (transfer) function (FRF) analysis is conducted to interpret the dynamic interaction between the output shaft torque and road side excitation due to the road roughness. In order to identify the frequency response function of vehicle driveline system, two power spectral density (PSD) functions of two random signals: the road roughness profile synthesized from the road roughness index equation and the stationary noise torque extracted from the original torque signal, are first estimated. System identification results show that the output torque signal can be affected by the dynamic characteristics of vehicle driveline systems, as well as the road roughness.
