Hydrogenated amorphous silicon solar cells which are fabricated by photo-chemical vapor deposition (photo-CVD) system has been investigated. In the photo-CVD system which consists of three separate reaction chambers, low-pressure mercury lamp has been used as a light source. The main reactant ($Si_2H_6/He$) gases which are premixed with a small amount of mercury vapor in a mercury-vaporizer kept at $50^{\circ}C$ have been used. Using $C_2H_2$ and $SiH_2(CH_3)_2$ as the carbon source, p-type wide band gap a-SiC:H films have been obtained. The result has been found that the undoped layers of the pin/substrate solar cells are influenced by the residual impurities, such as phosphorus and boron during the deposition process. By minimizing the effect of the impurities in the i-layer and optimizing conditions at the p-layer and p/i interface, the energy conversion efficiency of 9.61 % under AM-1 ($100mW/Cm^2$) has been achieved for pin/substrate solar cells illuminated through their p-layers, using the three separate reaction chamber apparatus. It is expected that a-SiC:H solar cells with the energy conversion efficiency over 10% have been fabricated by Photo-CVD method.

The ferroelectricity in emerging fluorite-structure oxides such as HfO2 and ZrO2 has attracted increasing interest since 2011. Different from conventional ferroelectrics, the fluorite-structure ferroelectrics could be reliably scaled down below 10 nm thickness with established atomic layer deposition technique. However, defects such as carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen atoms in fluorite-structure ferroelectrics are reported to strongly affect the nanoscale polymorphism and resulting ferroelectricity. The characteristic nanoscale polymorphism and resulting ferroelectricity in fluorite-structure oxides have been reported to be influenced by defect concentration. Moreover, the conduction of charge carriers through fluorite-structure ferroelectrics is affected by impurities. In this review, the origin and effects of various kinds of defects are reviewed based on existing literature.

Diamond film (24$\mu\textrm{m}$) were prepared by Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition method from a reactive CO/H$_2$ mixtures. Micro-Raman spectroscopy and micro-cathodoluminescence study were carried out along the crosssection and correlated to SEM observation. CL image of cross-section was also investigated. Peak position, FWHM of Raman spectrum were determined using Lorentzing fit. The stress in this sample is 0.4~0.7 GPa compressive stress, and along the distance the compressive stress reduced. The Raman peak broadening is dominated by phonon life time reduction at grain boundaries and defect sites. Defects and impurities were mainly present inside the film, not at Silicon/Diamond interface.
The thermal properties and crystallization behavior of calcium phosphate glass fabricated using eggshell were examined. Nature eggshell has several impurities in the main component of $CaCO_3$. To manufacture calcium phosphate glass, washed eggshell was dissolved in aqua-regia while adding a solution of isopropyl alcohol, D. I. water and phosphoric acid. The calcined precursor was melted at $1000^{\circ}C$, and the glass ($T_g$ : $540^{\circ}C$) was crystallized at $620{\sim}640^{\circ}C$, which temperature range is relatively low compared to the crystallization temperature of other general types of calcium phosphate glass. The calcium phosphate glass using eggshell was successfully crystallized without any additional nucleating agents due to the multiple effects of impurities such as $Fe_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, SrO and $SiO_2$ in the eggshell. The main crystalline phase was ${\beta}-Ca(PO_3)_2$ and a biocompatible material, hydroxyapatite, was also observed. The crystallization process was completed under the condition of a holding time of only 1 h at the low temperature.
Superconducting high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) has advantages to treat wastewater because it can generate high magnetic field and achieve rapid purification. In this study superconducting HGMS was applied to remove impurities from the condenser water in thermal power plant. The condenser water contained mainly hematite and maghemite and it was highly magnetized than hematite. In the HGMS tests using a 6-T cryo-cooled Nb-Ti superconducting magnet, the turbidity of the condenser water was effectively reduced up to 99.6% and the result showed better performance than that of the 0.5-T permanent magnet test. The higher magnetic field was applied in the range of 1-6T, the more iron oxides were removed. The effect of magnetic filter configuration on the condenser water treatment was also investigated. Consequently superconducting HGMS system can be applicable to remove iron oxide impurities from condenser water in thermal power plant.

The air suction filter of the power plant decrease the dust and impurities of suction air that reduce the life and efficiency of the boiler. The suction efficiency of the air filter falls with the dust and impurities when the time of use comes to be long. Therefore, the various contaminant of the filter must remove periodically. This paper presents a developed quick exhaust valve to use in the thermo-electric power plant. to removing contaminants on the filter, the blowing is done shortly by air pressure. The Air flowed out to the out side from the inside of the filter. The performance test of the developed valve is done by making a test-bench according to JIS and KS standards. The efficiency is found higher than the existing related valve.

This study investigated the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures in order to ascertain the effects of particular impurities in $CO_2$ in pipeline transportation. We predicted the thermal conductivity of three $CO_2$ gas mixtures ($CO_2+N_2$, $CO_2+H_2S$, and $CO_2+CH_4$) by utilizing three different methods : Chung et al., TRAPP, and the REFPROP model. We validated predictions by comparing the estimated results with 216 experimental data for $CO_2+CH_4$, $CO_2+N_2$, and $CO_2+C_2H_6$. Following $CO_2$ transportation conditions, we observed that the model developed by Chung et al. showed the lowest mean deviation of 3.07%. Further investigations were carried out on the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures based on the Chung et al. model including the effects of the operation parameters of pressure, temperature, and mole fraction of impurities.
Ce-doped $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ (YAG:Ce) phosphor powder was prepared using a ${NO_3}^-$-malonic acid-$NH_4NO_3-NH_3{\cdot}H_2O$ system. The YAG:Ce precursor was ignited at $240^{\circ}C$ and the resulting powder contained YAG:Ce crystallites (42%) - active in the visible region at 460 nm - amorphous particles (53%) - inactive at visible wavelengths - and less than 3% oxide (3%) crystallite impurities. The impurities transformed to acitive YAG:Ce crystallites at above $800^{\circ}C$. At above $1000^{\circ}C$, the amorphous phase became YAG phase and isolated $Ce_2O$ crystallites emerged. The powder particles comprised < $4{\mu}m$ secondary aggregates of 20 nm primary particles. The thermal dusting of the secondary particles coincided with the aggregation of the secondary particles at above $900^{\circ}C$.
Phosphorus is one of the interesting impurities in diamond, because it produces n-type semiconducting character. The character has been studied with spectroscopic methods as well as electric method, but most of the diamond used for these studies are conducted by the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) diamond. In this study, we synthesized the phosphorus doped HPHT (High Pressure and High Temperature) diamond and investigated the characterization using CL spectroscopy to determine how phosphorus incorporated. As a result, the undocumented peaks of 248 and 603 nm as well as the reported peaks (239 nm, 240 ~ 270 nm) at the previous studies were observed. These luminescence peaks may be due to the complex defect of phosphorus with other impurities such as boron and nitrogen.
The effect of impurities of andalusite on the morphology of the crystallization of mullite was investigated. The raw, concentrated and purified andalusite were fired at 145$0^{\circ}C$. and 150$0^{\circ}C$. Each of three grades of andalusite was examined in a scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and etc. The raw andalusite showed deeply etched textures and prismatic crystals which are estimated to be an average of 2.5u in width and 15u in length. Concentrated andalusite showed poorly formed and elongated prismatic crystals. Purified andalusite showed condensed needle-like crystals which are estimated to be an average of 0.4$\mu$ in width and 2.0$\mu$ in length, but at the boundary of the original andalusite grain, prismatic crystals were seen. It is supposed that the purified andalusite is able to utilize as a raw material for high alumina refractories with refractoriness S.K. 38.
